Nice work on cleaning up the top graft. Have done a good seach and it seems these are grafted onto Japanese larch rootstocks. Great job with the wiring looking good :-)
Thanks I did my best. I didn't know they were grafted on to Japanese larch root stock. Apparently the pearl larch is a slow growing dwarf Japanese larch. Cool to know ☺️
Those ugly grafts are really annoying. I recently did a similar operation on my grafted JBP. Still looks pretty nasty. Oh well. You just might have accomplished getting the best of both. A nice tree and a mother tree. Thanks, keep growing
Thanks Matt. I think I did the best I could considering. Turns out Pearl larch is a slow growing dwarf Japanese larch. Hopefully your jbp will out grow the graft a bit 👍🏻
If I'd put any more bends into it, I would have run the risk of damaging or splitting the trunk. It's just a little too thick to manipulate into tighter bends, but it's holding its shape just fine with the gauge I put on for now. As it grows I can always add more movement too. I found out it's a slow growing larch so that might take some time though 🤣

I'd have used thicker wire personally or doubled it at least it would of bend better and stayed in place better but apart from that nice tree
