@@abihya thank you!!! :D
I'm excited to be rewatching this while counting down the days to my spay!! I'm in the middle of making one of these for myself (slightly different pattern) with vintage wool and rayon sarees (because that's absolutely the best way to get that kind of yardage in beautiful prints/brocades). I hope you've been doing well while you're away from YT.
@@knitbelove oh good luck!!! I hope everything goes great!!

@@quixotichippie 😎 aw ty!!

TBF, I literally clicked because I'm queer and I make stuff, lol. That was really good though, I wish they had things like that at the little makerspace we have here! Well done on getting there and making your spare fingertip :p
I love it
I enjoyed watching this so much, and it made me happy. And a beautiful thimble resulted from a talented teacher.
The discussion of mixing the investment as "just vibes" made me laugh. I took a jewelry class years ago, and the professor did, in fact, mix the investment by feel. "Like a cake batter" was the description we were given on the proper consistency. It's also worth noting, we did NOT wait for the flask to cool before dropping it in water. You have to have a heatproof container (we used a metal trash can) but it did make the investment break up really quickly and fall off fairly easily. This is such a fun project, btw! I love the result. I love lost wax casting. I wish I had the time to do it again. Maybe once I'm done with my thesis...
When part of the process is “do it by vibes” I know I’ve found my people 😂 loved watching this!
That's so cool!!! It looks fabulous!! It's a good thing I don't have access to metalworking tools because I really do not need new projects, but oh.. the possibilities... Do you never use the back of the finger to push the needle? I find that the divots on top of where my fingernail is are the ones I use most often.

This is magical and a bit creepy and oh so awesome!
I remember doing some enamel work when I was 11 or 12 and I still have the things I made. I have not done anything like it since and after watching your video I'm wondering why I haven't and is there a maker space near me that has the tools and equipment for me to do this again. Not that I need another hobby - I have plenty and a few are ones I'm still not skilled at. I am definitely along for adventures in other crafts. it's good to see other things I could try.

@@noodlefeather aw, I'm glad too!!! Thanks and I'm happy you liked it!
Super cool!!! I would love a thimble just like that❤… not enough to do that much work though😂. I rescue vintage sewing machines and accessories from estate sales so have several dozen thimbles in a wide variety of sizes … some do fit me but when I hand sew, I actually hold my needle with the thimble finger and the next finger just isn’t very dexterous ☹️. Someday maybe I will find one that works well for me. A dog ate my favorite leather thimble and I haven’t found another that I like even though I have bought at least 6 different ones. In the meantime, I find keeping a thimble for my clumsy 3rd finger nearby for the really tough spots and a bandaid or two on my thimble finger works fairly well.
Oh no! A dog literally ate your homework/thimble! Tragic. :( I wish good things for your thimble future. Glad hou enjoyed!
🤣 same dog also ate my favorite T-shirt. It said “the more I meet people, the better I like dogs” 🐩 🤦🏼♀️

why be normal when u can make it weird and vaguely unsettling??? great sentiment and i HEARTILY agree. good work on this video and on the project itself!!! 10/10!!!

I think the best thing you could do to improve your video quality would be to improve the sound! I found your voiceover to be scratchy, unfortunately, so I hope it gets better! Great job!
Thanks for the thought! Glad you enjoyed the video
This was great! I love the thimble! I have a couple of (hopefully) constructive comments, which I hope you don't mind... 1: Promises me that if you ever paint your fingernails you'll also paint the nail on the thimble and take some shots with it... 2: I found the music a little... aaah... annoying... It seriously sounded like I was back in the '90's playing Zelda (I'm old).. :) If you keep the music, it could be softer. Otherwise, try without it and see whether you like the video that way... 3: The rim around the base of the thimble, if you do re-make it, I'd make the edge where the rim connects to the thimble a lot sharper, otherwise you're risking the needle 'jumping' over the rim and still stabbing you, which isn't fun. 4: Leather thimbles are awesome too. They also breathe better if you're using it for a long time, you don't end up with a raisin finger. I've also thought about making a leather-backed-silver-fronted thimble, but TBH I don't really use one much as I've developed really great callouses where the thimble would otherwise be protecting :) 5: If you make another one, and you like the 'painted nail' idea, look into 'oxidised silver', which would look epic having the nail blackened with a really shiny thimble. :) 6: Your comment at the end "If you stayed to the end you don't get a prize". Don't sell yourself short! The 'Prize' was getting to know, step-by-step, how to make a silver thimble! :D I've subbed and look forward to seeing what else you make.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
Nice job. I was thinking the divits wouldn't translate deep enough. Burring them made more sense. Have have a feeling you might make another one that's even fancier. Cause finger armor is cool.
Calling it finger armor is *chefs kiss* YES
It’s amazing!!!!
Thank you so much!!
Like other commenters, i like leather thimbles as well. I have one with a magnet to help catch or hold needles (very handy when using 2 needles), one with a metal *plate* with rings so the needle won't slide everywhere and go though heavy materials, and a few with *flaps* so i can use it to grab needles rather than pliers. I would love to make a silver one though, what an amazing idea!
@@jn9850 oh the magnet is very clever! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
It is very handy when doing saddle stitch, I love crafting but I'm a bit clutzy with needles 😂

@@sallyw8684 😁😁😁 thanks!!!
This was absolutely awesome! I’ve seen lost wax casting a couple of times on Time Team. What a cool skill to experiment with! How awesome for you that you have access to the tools and equipment for the is experiment. Out of curiosity, would you still recommend making the divots in the thimble in the wax even though you had to drill them out later? I'd imagine they were a useful placement guide. The end product is lovely. How cool to have made that!
Thank you so much! I think I would do the divots differently-- maybe deeper? but I would still try to have them be part of the original mold. It would have been a huge time save if they had worked hahaha.

I hadn't thought of decorating a leather thimble! Fun ideas!! :)))
@@BeQueerMakeStuff Thanks so much 😀 with that wonderful studio you're in, there may be spare leather strips hanging around. Perhaps you could do a "Frankenstein Monster" style one; y'know, seasonal... My store bought/factory made one is two thin layers of leather around the skin (about a millimetre thick), and just one for the arched piece that goes on the back of the hand. It comes down to the (base of) my second knuckle. I love the length. Factory girth is too narrow for many people, anyway. Whatever material, it's probably much more comfortable to make your own
