Knowing the Netherlands
США
Добавлен 27 ноя 2019
Hello Everyone. My name is Brinn and welcome to my channel, “Knowing the Netherlands.” I started this channel in order to help other newcomers to the Netherlands to avoid the mistakes I have made and to share my experiences as an expat living in the Netherlands and so that people will have a chance to get to know more about the Netherlands. I am an American, and I have only lived in the Netherlands since March 1st, 2019, arriving here from Seoul, South Korea, so I am very new to the Netherlands. However, I have already learned a lot about the Netherlands although I know that I have only scratched the surface. I really hope sharing my journey about living in the Netherlands will help and entertain those near and far. I would love it if you joined me on this journey to getting to know the Netherlands. If you ever have any questions, please reach out to me through the RUclips comments or on your favorite social media platforms: Instagram/Twitter: @KnowingtheNL FB: Knowing the Netherlands

Should Governments Translate Documents into Other Languages

Hello Know-It-Alls! Y'all inspired me to look a bit more into governments and wether they translate documents into other languages. I grew up with it being the norm to have multiple language options on government forms. I quickly learned when I moved abroad this is not the case everywhere. I thought it would be a nice conversation to have with y'all. Please let me know your thoughts. Resources:...

Wow you’re really bad informed 😢now you just sound very stupid 😅
As an American living in Switzerland, I’m now faced with this issue because us Americans NEED our ceiling fans, especially since AC isn’t so popular here! Looks like you did a great job and I now feel more confident tackling my next project. Thanks!
Dutch woman are like amerikan to needy
Stil looking fore a woman wife lover friend
I am a black woman and sometimes I get 'shoulder checks" or people bumping aggressively into my shoulder, usually by men. And when I was in Mcdonalds finishing my order, one Dutch woman pushed me because she wanted to use the monitor to place an order. And then, I get Dutch people who are nice to all the white looking people but ignore me or aren't as nice towards me. And then, maybe not really racism (or is it?) but my dating life here is terrible. I feel invisible to men, guys don't look at me or notice me or check me out, never approached or flirted with. But in the USA it is the complete opposite and I never felt unattractive living in America. But then I think, how can I expect to be considered attractive in a country that openly engages in Zwarte Piet?
I traveled from Paris to Amsterdam. I felt racism in Netherlands than in France. When you ask for directions, Dutch people are rude.
Jouw kat is zo leuk..

I noticed the friendly part. I visited The Netherlands for the first time, and I parked my rental car in a neighborhood. I had a lost look trying to figure out if I need to pay, how to pay, and for how long. A guy looked and smiled at me. I approached him and said, "sorry to bother you, but I'm not sure what to do here?". He was very helpful. I had the experience with females as well.
Your employer does not simply sent someone to your house to check on you when you call in sick. The company you work for will after some time sent a specialized medical mediator in the case of a long term illness (burnout) not to spy not because of distrust but to help you and find solutions to return to work. This person does not share private medical information with your employer.
Netherlands is even more racist
Don't worry yourself too much, they discriminate against every foreigner... it is in their nature.
I'll date you and made it wourd your while
The Netherlands like Scandinavia are hypocrite. To the outside world they keep up a nice face of tolerance but inside
Demographics of the Arab world. 94% of the nation's population is Muslim, oh the Demographics of the Arab Must be the most racist and antique religion other than Muslim.
Racism exists everywhere, in different levels of course, what I have found is that people who are racist, are profoundly miserable, unhappy and insecure. If you feel good in your own skin, you don't need to put someone down in order to feel better.
Proud to be Dutch
My transformer also didn't work. I will have to get in contact with them. I really wish I had watched this before.
They are lovely people. Getting the mixer fix should be simple enough. Let me know how it goes
They claim not to be rascit but are actually rascit just like America
Your cat is adorable, and clearly loves you very much!
Thank you for your courage and speaking up. I subscribed.
Omg the kitty is so cute 😊😍
Am Moroccan, and I remember a Dutch store owner was discriminating me when I went to buy cigarettes from him saying that I should go home, even though am not an immigrant am there for vacation, so I knocked him out to the shadow realm for raising his voice at me
You’ re just a taliban. The whole Europe hate Moroccans . Bad people from a s*it country
As a Turk, I've actually never felt discriminated in the NL. There are very rare situations, but it is coming from pretty much everybody, Moroccans, Blacks, White Dutch people (or "natives" as Americans like to call). Tourists mostly. Nederturken: those Turks who came to the NL in 1950s are also quite stranger to me. They've never experienced secularism in Turkey and most of these people left Turkey because they were poor, but make no mistake, religion was also a big factor. When they were fleeing Turkey, the women were not even allowed to cover their head in public institutions. So, it's understandable they isolated themselves and the Dutch (also the German) were ok with that. But times have changed. In the NL there isn't any kind of discrimination against Turks. I can't speak about the Moroccan side, some people think just because we're both muslims, we must be same and should be mentioned together in every sentence, but in reality Turks are closer to Italian than they are to Moroccans. I think in the NL Americans should also be worried a little bit about being discriminated. The situation might be worse for them. Being white won't be enough, this is not racism, this is nationalism.
BLAH BLAH BLAH so she just said both countries are racist. I think she's well-meaning however this was not groundbreaking info, glad to see she enjoyed herself.
I live in the nederlands olmost 20 years . The nederlands is bed healthcare
I'm Asian Australian and I've experienced more racism in my study abroad in NL than my entire life in Australia. I've had people make kung fu noises at me, do slant eyes, call out "Ni Hao" or "Konnichiwa", speak real slow as if I don't understand English. Then there's that Hanky Panky Shanghai Birthday song. Most Dutch just brush it over and use the "Dutch directness" excuse to let it slide but won't accept the fact that they're being racist. A lot of the Dutch people also had no problem saying to me how racist they thought Australia was then get all shocked when I told them I've had more racism in the Netherlands. These same people complained about all the foreigners coming but then when I remind them I'm a foreigner too they said "Not you, you're one of the good ones". And wait until you hear what they think about Turks and Moroccans.
I am still in love with you....❤
I mean, Moroccan Arab society suppresses the native Berber population and Turks don't have a very favorable opinion of Kurds and Syrians. Not really unique to the Netherlands.
Good evening madam
Yeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaw
I'm not an electrician - so this is just something I've learned over the years: Electrical wiring can be unsafe - but still work. So if in doubt, please call a pro.
I'm fully agree with you , netherlands healthcare process is stupid!!
I found it hard but had help from family. Now that family has gone. I plan to return to Amsterdam soon and what bothers me is that I don’t know where to find things I shall like eg toilet paper. And I won’t be able to buy my favourite moisturiser. That is my big issue. In London, I know how things work. I have no idea about NL except that it is very bureaucratic. You are right. It takes time to become self-sufficient. Independent. It takes time.
Yeeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaw

Wauw
Aaaah,I like you
your a good looking girl, from Ben a Moroccan from the uk London
First of all, the United States is a leader in medical technology. Secondly, their health system is the most expensive of the whole world, with appalling results. Therefore, the average age in the States is 4 years lower than tin other developed nations, including the Netherlands. Partly because of this, no one I know, until I saw this, thought the health systems of the US and the Netherlands were equally good.
no do your research you have it ALL WRONG please leave you are mental ill
You are so sweet
I just don't get Europeans' obsession with "race." It's such a waste of time.
I really wish we could talk about this.
The history of why this economy even exist thats why
Yes you guys are. Very much. I find dutch people are veryyyyy racist. Be more concisious and respectful
Marrocans are self hating scumbags which are lying, stealing, killing, dealing with drugs... The question is not if they are discriminated or not, but what for God s sake they have to do in the Netherlands! They are distroying the country inmny ways by sheer number... As a stupidAmerican I would say just mind your own fucking business and ask the mayor of chicago why blacks are killing each atoher by random.... Maybe you can help your peopletheremore than to put your nose in a culture you have nothing to say about...
Could not hear a word you said.? But glad your still upload
Sorry for the audio quality. Happy to see you’re still watching!
Your tone and general attitude have changed significally since i saw your first video. I would say for the better.
Thank you! That’s a really nice compliment
Thieving, raping, robbing, organised crime, scamming 😊
Like 90% of your reverse culture shocks can be linked to excessive car culture. Think about it, 100 years ago the road was shared equally between all road users, but now everything has to make way for the car. Would road kill be such a problem if car culture wasn't so dominant? How about going out after dark? The fact that you can't walk anywhere anymore? Big box stores with huge parking lots that you go to once a week? Car culture makes people into insular little units who move between "Living Place" and "Work Place" and "Consume Place" in their protected metal boxes. It's a very unnatural and anti-social way to live. People deserve the right to be able to live their life to the fullest without having to own a car.
Let me quote the great Homer Simpson, philosopher and actor (1953 - present day, but due to... things, currently about 40 years old); " Mmm, pie! " ruclips.net/video/VslRTJdPMIc/видео.html
