Exploring Retails With Andrew
США
Добавлен 9 июн 2019
Hello everyone, Welcome to my Channel. I am interested in dying and thriving malls, as well as abandoned and closing retail. Retailers are really struggling in this day and age, so I like to document them while they are either abandoned or in their closing stage, to preserve the memories of people’s childhood, or future generations to see the past. So sit back and enjoy my channel!

Town Center At Aurora - Aurora Colorado | ERA_Productions
Hello everyone, and welcome to the Town Center at Aurora in Aurora Colorado. Opening its doors in 1975 as the Aurora Mall, it would open as a competitor mall to the already Existing Buckingham Square, Mall. Original anchors would consist of May Daniels and fishers, Sears, JCPenney, and Denver dry goods. Over the years, anchors would shuffle around, until the current anchor lineup would arrive with Macy’s, Dillards, JCPenney, and Fieldhouse, USA. Over the years, the mall had some pretty horrible events happened to it, that caused the mall to receive a pretty bad reputation. Despite the reputation, Town Center at Aurora continues to do well as of the making of this video, and remains thrivi...

This was my mall, at least as much of a mall as a teen who really didn't get out much would go to randomly for lunch on weekends/during the summer. I worked for RadioShack around the time they remodeled the very 70s-era neon into this bland grey monstrosity. I miss the neon, and really wish I took any photos when I was at the Shack in the mall for a few weeks helping out with a district-wide planogram reset. I wonder if anyone has old photos of its former neon glory! [edit+] Wow, the old Sears got entirely razed and replaced with a sports field! Crazy! I also love that your shots showcased art from the Aurora Public Schools that was displayed there, tons of talented students!
Is this the same Aurora Colorado where the gang Tren De Aragua from Venezuela taking over some apartment complexes? Great video with your commentary and editing Andrew!
Thanks! and Keep em Rolling
great video.
Thanks!
I wonder if KaKo Joe's is a chain arcade or something. Had one here in Cheyenne for a few, and I know Casper's Eastridge Mall has one (at least, it did last time I went to Casper).
I looked it up online, and it seems like they have 3 locations, but Eastridge wasn't listed as one of them, so they might've closed there.
2:00 What the heck, looks like they took powerwheels and put handles on the back of them XD
What are your thoughts on Town Center at Aurora, and what do you think it’s future holds?
❤
Unfortunately this mall is now in trouble. Just recently, Kohan Retail bought the mall. Another mall now down. 😑
That sucks. I’ll have to go back to this mall at some point in the future.
i was there last year and they had a sporting goods store that was very eerie
I missed that place it will always be in my heart
Thank you for doing this video! I live in Cincinnati now, but during my childhood and early adult years in Littleton, I literally watched Cinderella City, South Glenn, and Villa Italia come and go😥. Cinderella City was the best! As I road the bus to high school along Wadsworth Ave., I watched Southwest Plaza Mall built brick by brick. I got my first job inside the mall at McDonald's around the corner from Montgomery Ward. I got my first credit card at that Montgomery Ward and bought a TV to watch my Broncos. And I may have been the youngest person to drive a car inside the mall 😂 as Mitsubishi was setting up a display and needed help driving the cars. As McDonald's was the latest store to close then, our crew was recruited to help. I left the Denver area in 1990 and haven't been back. I never imagined Southwest Plaza could ever make a dead mall list!😢
Love it all, but there is NOBODY in the store!!!😮😮😮eeekk😢😢😢
That’s probably because I was trying to avoid getting people in the shot for the most part. They’re actually was quite a bit of people shopping on the day. I was there. Shortly before filming, there were a ton of people near all the Christmas trees and stuff. When I’m filming, I try to do it when there’s not many people around.
My sister and I actually used to trick or treat at this mall (from store to store) for Halloween 1983-84, because it was too sketchy in my neighborhood for us to walk around at night. Fond memories…
❄️🎄❄️ 🎄❄️🎄
The research can be really hard. There's a LOT that just isn't online for many malls, and it is a mild shame.
Lol TWO HOURS!? So close, it would have been HILARIOUS if ya'll ran into each other at Spirit Christmas!
man, this is sad. This mall was the spot in 1990's.
This is one of my favorite stores I always look forward to seeing there Christmas decor
I’m with you, I love checking out the decor! 🎄
❤
Rural King needs to open indoor mall access
Agreed!
Beautiful mall. It is kept spotless. Ready for for a comeback. Mall owners are using it as a tax write off for now. It can come back at anytime. Most are traveling to Robinson mall or you to Cranberry. There is plenty of money in Beaver county. And people will spend.
The mall is cool over all but avoid taking your kids to the Playground store where the kids play. It's literally full of sweaty little kids and is very unsanitary. Not to mention, the degenerate people that go and occupy the place. I got threaten by some emotional woman cause her kids were bullying my son. Absolute trash people.
I loved going to the mall with my family, borders was my second favorite store when I was a kid. EB games was obviously my favorite at that time before it turned into Gamestop. I love going into Yankee Candle as well to just chill with all the scents. Always had to get an Auntie Anne pretzel before leaving. It was sad to watch it slowly die, lots of fun memories in that place.
The Macy's was originally Marshall Field's. Macy's had previously had a presence in the early 80s in Toledo after buying the Lasalle's chain in 1982. Macy's would sell all of the former Lasalle's stores to Elder-Beerman in 1985.
This mall has a special place for me for so many reasons over so many years. I am almost 48 and it opened just a few months after I was born. I watched Return of the Jedi there and afterwards ate at the Ponderosa Steak House. In 1992 I moved back to the area at 15 and this was where I would spend many Saturdays just walking back and forth, shopping at Chess King for the silkiest 90's shirts, eating at the MdDonalds, walking past Poor Cow Leather and looking for cassette singles at FYE music store. After a long time away I returned to the area in 2006 and since I wasn't quite 30 I shop at Rue 21. A trip to the mall wasn't compete without a slice or two from Renna's Pizza. I haven't been back in a long time and feel sad about how it is turning out, but I understand that is life. Thanks for posting.
💜
I remember going there on Great Wolf Lodge trips
Great video man!!!! We recently had a Scheels go in here in Tulsa. The only thing that was heartbreaking for me was that they bulldozed my old Sears (Store 1151) in Tulsa to build it.
The first thing I glared at in the thumbnail was the stairs, and I immediately thought, Scheels. Then I look at the rest of the thumbnail and see that I was right lol!
Great video glad you enjoyed your time here I always enjoy going there
Thanks, Alex! Glad I was able to meet with you here!
Beautiful mall :) would you say it’s still a busy place ? Or more dead
Definitely still doing pretty well overall! Still gets some crowds, but not too overly crowded.
My first job was at Wilson leather store Remember getting the hook up on food exchange for my 30% discount 😂
So many memories 😢
It was really nice meeting you here! So sad that GNC is now closed, Dunham's is pretty much the only thing keeping the mall alive at this point. Great video!
That’s sad. At this point, it seems like it’s only a matter of time before the doors of this place get locked for the last time. But yeah, I appreciate it! Great to see you here!
😢
A lowes as a mall anchor? That is weird!
I know, it’s strange.
What are your thoughts on The Point at Carlisle Plaza, and what do you think it’s future holds?
🎄
A lot has changed since my first visit. I need to go back.
A Christmas commercial came on half way through! Perfect for this fun video.
Honestly, that’s a pretty funny coincidence LMAO 😂
What Bucees is this? Great video.
This is the Johnstown Colorado location.
Probably not last another 10 years would be my guess, although, theres still a decent amount of businesses in there, there just not of the largest scale and brick and mortar retail stores are having a helluva time trying to stay open in a lot of cases as has been the trend due to big-box retailers and ONLINE SHOPPING.. I AM GLAD I LIVED THROUGH THE ERA AS A LATE GEN-X THAT I DID, SAW A LOT OF GOOD TIMES!! I moved out of state in 2011, so i appreciate this video to see what it looks like more currently! Thanks again.
So sad I really like that mall and visited everytime we returned to Florida. I live in Sarasota in the early 90s and I worked as a maintenance man there in the mall around 90-91. Sad to hear it was closed.
Nice video Andrew!
Thank you!
i grew up here in this mall. my Nana who raised me worked at Lerner's, a clothing shop. it was later renamed NY and Co. when Grampa took us to pick Nana up after work, my sister and i (she was 6 and i was 5) would roam the mall unsupervised while Grampa sat on the brown plastic one piece bench in front of the store. we'd go to Wilson's Sporting Goods next door to Lerner's and squish the packages of rubber fishing worms and exclaim about how gross it was. then we'd go over to the Tinderbox, a store that had a small statue of a tin soldier in the window. we thought it might be a tin soldier store, but when i was older i realized it was a tobacco shop. we weren't allowed int here and thought tin soldiers must only be for grown ups. we made a point of going to the anchor store, Maas Brothers, because they had a Hello Kitty store display and we could buy inexpensive things there, like erasers or notepads. i developed a love for Little Twin Stars there when i was 6 and would scour the display for anything with their logo that i could afford. we'd go to the fountain and throw a penny or nickel in and daydream out loud about what we would buy if we were allowed to take the quarters out of the water. what we wanted to buy was almost always candy. there was a pet shop at the end of the mall. we'd go there, too and pat the puppies and kittens, because the store employees would take them out for us to hold. we bought our pet turtles there when we were 8 and 9 and our pet hamsters there when we were 9 and 10. my mother bought finches from them, tiny birds that made little peeping sounds. she bought the first one in 1979 and still owned one of its descendants in 2005. by the time we were 11 and 12, our grandparents or mother dropped us off at the mall alone to window shop and socialize with our friends for hours. we'd go into the spencers gifts store and surreptitiously hurry to the back of the store to look at the grown up section and giggle about the racy things we saw. we wanted to look sophisticated and jaded but i'm sure we just looked goofy. then we'd grab a chick fil a sandwich and a lemonade and talk about how good the food was and then hit the movies or the arcade or both. there were two bookstores we spent hours in once our friends had gone home. our ex-pastor worked at the jewelry store. we'd gossip about how he'd been caught with the church secretary and divorced. he always waved to us. we'd drop in a visit our Nana who would either buy us clothes on sale or tell us she'd sew the more expensive outfits we liked at Lerners. she was good at duplicating fashions and was the most fashionable grandmother anyone else knew. our friends asked her advice on clothing and accessories and she helped them pick out their clothes. my sister got a job at chick fil a and we thought that was the coolest thing ever, getting discount sandwiches, fries, and lemonade. my old pastor still worked at the jewelry store. he still waved to me and i'd drop by and show off my kids and ask how he was. in my 20s i took my own kids to the university mall. we'd make a beeline for my Nana's store and she'd kiss each great-grandbaby and fuss over them. then we'd dodge the mall walkers, senior citizens who dressed in matching jumpsuits and speedwalked through the mall for exercise, and head for the disney store. my kids' favorite store was that one. they had a huge round display of stuffies with a big screen tv hanging over it that played previews of upcoming disney movies or musical clips. they always begged for a toy and once in a while i would have some extra money so i'd get them either something from there or something from the KB Toys store or Waldenbooks. they liked to read as much as i did. we'd head over to the pet store, which still allowed kids to pat the puppies and kitten, only now there was hand sanitizer first and they had to sit in a pen with the animals and could not pick them them up. then we'd go across the street to the merlins comic book shop so i could meet my friends and socialize with them while the kids read their favorite comic books (i always bought them one). afterwards, we'd grab a sandwich from the publix next door to merlins and head home. in my 30s, i remarried and had a one year old stepdaughter. my teen kids liked taking her shopping and watching her play in the kids area. we'd go to hot topic and pick out cute outfits or band tees for my teens there. sometimes there was something the baby could have like a purse or hair accessories. my Nana still worked there and we'd visit her. the mall was slowing down. Nana retired. the kids grew up and had kids of their own. on halloween, we'd take the grandkids out to the old university mall and trick or treat there as their parents and aunties and uncles had in the 90s and early 2000s. there were no longer any mall walkers and there were few shoppers, but there was plenty of candy being handed out. my old pastor's jewelry store was closed. university mall became almost a ghost town. the anchor stores boarded up and sealed themselves off from the main mall as they closed. the disney store and spencers and NY & Co and waldenbooks and pet store had long since closed. in my 50's, there was an announcement that university mall was to become an outdoor mall, then another announcement that it would be a mixed use community. i don't know which they settled on. it's still being renovated.
