What are your thoughts on Logan Valley Mall, and what do you think it’s future holds?

That Macy's is done. Probably the entire mall too.

Woah, starstruck. This is my home mall & I went to the community college there. I agree that it was such a smart decision to add the college. The Macy’s is SO WEIRD.

Video idea for you: Valley Mall in Hagerstown, MD. That is a thriving mall owned by PREIT.
There has been 3 new businesses that opened in Logan Valley Mall recently:
“R&A Cafe” in the food court
“Virago Beauty” near Sears across Applebees
“Aunt Misty’s Sweets and Treats” across Show Dept near Cinnabon

Thank you for capturing my local mall. It has definitely declined in recent years, but as you say it’s still hanging on. The Macy’s is sad and is long past the point where it’s reputation causes it to get no traffic.
The variety of stores is pretty decent, and depending on when you go it does still get fairly busy. The Dino’s pizza is a good place to eat when you’re there, and Wong’s Wok (a store that has been at the mall since the ‘70s) is a good choice.

Wong's Wok was the first place I ever had Chinese food & totally got me hooked on it

The JCP at 1:23 definitely reminds me of the Park Meadows JCP to some degree. With that bridge and everything. That Verizon store in the mall looks like what the Frontier Mall one would look like if it were operating today (but its not, its on the periphery now). The Macy's looks like what the Flatirons Nordstrom felt like before it closed-- Extremely spaced out. PS Wish my FYE still looked even soemthing like that--its old location had much more variety in music and movies.

I stopped by the FYE here to avoid security while filming, and it was a nice one!

@@ERA_ProductionsFun fact, the FYE has actually been in their location since sometime in the early/mid ‘80s. It started as a Wall To Wall Sound & Video and was then The Wall before becoming FYE.

This is the mall I grew up with. So sad to see it in such a state now. I can remember when it was always packed with shoppers, especially around Christmas. I still live in the next town over & honestly haven't been there in probably 10 years. There's nothing there for me anymore. The original food court, before the big fire, was where present day JC Penney is, and it was only 1 story then. There's lots of pics of the mall from the 80's and when the fire occured in 94 on Facebook if you dig a bit. I always loved shopping at Hess's (currently Macy's) in the 80's. They had the most rad clothes at the time 😂. Lots of chasing boys around there too & cruising around the parking lot.

Additional comment: the day after the fire, JCP had a 90% off sale & it was insane. I didn't get to go but many of my friends got some really great stuff, think leather coats & ski jackets, for 90% off.

The Macy's in Springfield, VA is a 3-story store and is still open. A Macy's in Arlington, VA has closed

Great video. I have been to this mall several times (even though I do not live in PA), as I have to occasionally go to Altoona for work. It has declined some since Covid, especially the Macy's. I shopped in there just 5 years ago or thereabouts and it was a great Macy's store. I'm sad to see it dwindle away. I love this cute little mall, I hope it survives. At least H&M and Old Navy are hanging on...sad to see it also lost its Applebee's. Restaurants in malls are such a thing of the past

I’m guessing that’s because AMC wanted it down and took it. Sears (like the Kmart) was beyond the point financially where they probably wanted to spend the money).

Was there about 6 months ago for the first time in 15 years. Just sad. Macy's was quite a comedown. I wanted a pair of low-heel boots to swap out for the knee killers I was wearing. Nothing, and there were something like 2 sales associates on the entire floor. I didn't have the heart to walk to the other end of the mall, depressed after walking 20 yards.

Never a good sign when Mcdonalds AND Subway both leave,This mall technically now fits the definition of a dead mall - It does on paper have two anchor tenants but its foot traffic is at abysmal rates.

Many of the Subways in the area closed around the same time due to some issue with the owner.

The real truth is the mall suffers from mismanagement by the corporate owners. There is not a decent mall within a 100 miles of this one. It's grand size, loads of parking and placement right off the exit make it a destination shopping mall. It's just a casualty of both brick and mortar decline and bad economics. Also, when they renovated after the fire in 1993, the mall became drab and dull. It lost all the charm it once had.
