If you think Altoona has a old aesthetic, Johnstown, PA in Cambria County has an old Toys R Us logo from the 70s, an abandoned Circuit City, a mall straight from the 90s, and an old Sheetz with the inside of the store from the mid 90s. And probably more if I could think off the top of my head.
I was thinking the same thing. Why did they take the building sign down, but left the street sign up?.It probably has more to do with cost, and convenience.Probably cheaper, and easier to remove the building sign, than to remove that tall street sign. Thanks for the upload Wallie!.
It was closed on the June 30th when the stores fully shut down, it never had any issues withstanding the closures until all the stores closed. It did great business and I went there often. It was so sad when I heard it was gonna close (the march leading up to that june ) and even harder going on the last few days 😢
Loved going to this TRU most of the time when visiting Altoona. It was a tradition for me. First stop was always to go and take pictures of trains on Horseshoe Curve, go to the PRR Railroad Museum downtown and then stop at Toy R Us and then the mall. What memories it was.... Man I miss Pennsylvania.
I hope they do have a come back cuz they’ll be able to start from the ground and grow back up and be almost as popular as it once was I sadly didn’t get to go to a toys r us before they closed since I was in Alaska and they didn’t have that much of the popular places like in the lower 48s
love the vintageness of the toys r us. I like the sign. A lot of the ones that were around me do have the rainbow colors, but i can't find the real vintage ones like the canton one that many explorers have done. Great video. I think you did it justice.
If you go on Facebook and search Toys R Us Canada, the R has a maple leaf instead of a star in the centre. Happy 4th from those who celebrate the 1st 🇨🇦
Not an expert on this location, but I do know enough to share this bit of info: This and the Dunham's Sports next to it both started out as one single location of a Johnstown, PA-based department store chain called Gee Bee from around the late 70's or so up until late 1992, when Value City Department Stores bought Gee Bee out. Already having a store a mile or two up the way (which closed with the rest of that chain in '09, and is now split between a church and a Planet Fitness), Value City closed this store, and the shopping center's owners were able to lure in Toys R Us and Dunham's, leading to what you saw here.
You are not a dork; you are an urban archeologist actually documenting the demise of a culture and way of life that existed in the us since the mid 19th century.
I heard that too about toys r us making a comeback on a much smaller scale. But I also heard that the media is making it into a much bigger deal than it’s going to be.
Fun Fact: The Toys R Us Sign on the building used to have a Kids R Us sign below the vintage one back in 2011. But somewhere around 2011 to 2015 it was replaced.
I miss toy r us I can’t wait to see them back I really enjoy your videos make me feel great about Abanded please because all of us get to enjoy them thx u so much
They were pretty quick to pull the signs off my town's combined Toys R Us/Babies R Us store, probably since it's in a large shopping center. It looks like maybe they're gutting it for redevelopment.
I live in upstate NY but my parents live in Pittsburgh. I've seen this off the highway a few times, never had time to check it out. Thank you for satisfying my curiosity.
This Toys R Us Wallie funny story that Brixmor Leasing Info Sign is the same ones (same company) who have spaces for lease up here in Massachusetts and alot in NH especially in the old Walmart which is now a Ocean State Job Lot..
There's only going to be 2 stores opening this year and they will only be a shell of what they used to be. Most of the major toy companies never got paid by the former owners.
Awesome video. Maybe the store front signage was taken down for Halloween city to put that plastic strip up. It's ashame TRU is gone. Wonder what it's reincarnated self will be like, this pop up mini stores like Toys R Us Express in the malls. The city's strip of stores looks like something out of the 90s especially the TRU sign. The KMart can also be vintage 90s. One thing you should see about getting that sign ont he highway. At least Geoffrey. It would scare away birds and squirrels and other annoying people. HAHAHA. Maybe not if you rent, but wonder if it could fit inside your home.
So toys r Us and its affliated brands are now owned by trukids ltd which is just the old ToyRus team under a new name and a couple ppl assumed new positions in the company and theres alot of merchendising patnerships going on. Trukids seems to have made many international partners They are set to open 70 stores in asia and europe amd india but they self admit that they are riding the coat tails of the brand recongnition and still cant bridge the gap of compition in the united states....so....there trying but ehhhh...idk. its real jargony..but Its sounds like everywhere but the U.S. is on the priority
1:40 that’s an old school Toys R Us logo. My dad always went to Toys R Us, with that SAME EXACT LOGO

I remember when this place and the place next to it was the old gee bees department store..

I traveled to this Toys R Us on its last day of business and the Kmart In Altoona.
It was closed on the June 30th when the stores fully shut down, it never had any issues withstanding the closures until all the stores closed. It did great business and I went there often. It was so sad when I heard it was gonna close (the march leading up to that june ) and even harder going on the last few days 😢
03 baby myself, god I miss these days best store ever. As a kid the store felt like another world it was so big. Damn internet ruined real childhood.
I was 4 when i was there but now im nine and seeing this just makes me cry tears of joy❤

That store was the shit. Why’d the internet have to ruin everything damn it.
Happy Holiday Wallie, Stay Awesome !
I hope they do have a come back cuz they’ll be able to start from the ground and grow back up and be almost as popular as it once was I sadly didn’t get to go to a toys r us before they closed since I was in Alaska and they didn’t have that much of the popular places like in the lower 48s
my local toys r us (opened 2014) still has the letters. until it became hobby lobby. I cry
Happy Independence Day Wallie! Great video! Love the old school sign.

A Muncie Channel thanks for subscribing comrade! :)
It's so awesome as ToysRUs here in Australia shut down late year too but there reopening WOOHOO can't wait.
If you go on Facebook and search Toys R Us Canada, the R has a maple leaf instead of a star in the centre. Happy 4th from those who celebrate the 1st 🇨🇦

Toy R Us is rebranding and said they will be opening up new smaller stores in the near future.
Yeah
You are not a dork; you are an urban archeologist actually documenting the demise of a culture and way of life that existed in the us since the mid 19th century.

That toys r us is opening up as a Burlington coat factory
brings back memories, the one near me in Rhode Island just got turned into a different office store
Reminds me of the one we had in Hickory, NC. There already turned it into a Gabes. We don't have stores sit abandoned for long around here.
That is an awesome sign and you are right and I have never seen a Toys R Us sign like that one! Thanks Wallie for all the cool videos that you do!
Check out the Toys R Us in Rochester, Minnesota if you can
I’ve seen this one, and they actually kept the lights on oddly a while after it closed like it looked open
WallieB26 You Are The Best! Thank You! Happy 4th Of July! 🗽
That sign is SO cool!!!
That was an awesome sign
Fun Fact: The Toys R Us Sign on the building used to have a Kids R Us sign below the vintage one back in 2011. But somewhere around 2011 to 2015 it was replaced.

I drive by that beautiful sign daily. This one closed June 30th.
First time seeing the Geoffrey head mounted to top of roadway sign, cool!
This Toys R Us Wallie funny story that Brixmor Leasing Info Sign is the same ones (same company) who have spaces for lease up here in Massachusetts and alot in NH especially in the old Walmart which is now a Ocean State Job Lot..
Awesome video happy 4th bro
There used to be a Toys r us express inside the Eastwood mall in Niles OH, but closed a while ago
There's only going to be 2 stores opening this year and they will only be a shell of what they used to be. Most of the major toy companies never got paid by the former owners.
YO I LIVE BY THERE ITS A HALLOWEEN STORE NOW AND ITS GREAT
Cool videos today
My local toys r us is being torn down and turning into a home sense store what a shame
They turned this into a spirit Halloween store, at least that’s what it was the last time I was in Altoona, which has been a few months
Toys R Us is coming back later this year.
My mother-in-law's company put that sign up, and tore it down. Geoffrey looks just as massive sitting on ground level!

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY COMRADE(S)! :)
It’s looks like the toys r us building Hagerstown md
A lot of Altoona looks ancient. It's like a time warp to visit.
That Trus is now Urban air, I live in Altoona.
lol it must be a requirement that they leave ONE CART in each store LOL!
Wallie, could you go back here and film that AC Moore? It’s probably abandoned now since Michael’s bought it out.
My toys r us still has the logo on, 1 year after, its a shell of itself

That’s the toys r us that I grow with
8:17 what is this song at of the toys r us
Lo Key - I Got A Thang For You
My guess is they only took the logo off for the Halloween City, and that’s why the street sign is still there. That’s what happened with my Toys R Us.
Phil The Cow Yup, this is exactly why.
flic.kr/p/2c2iWBV
Cool sign👍
This location has different exterior brickwork.
Congrats wallieb26 I have joined you tube since 2018 for abandoned buildings in Dallas fort Worth.

There is a guy on tiktok who made a miniature abandoned Toys R Us you don't have to do it abandoned but I recommend doing that tutorial
