      Been there quite a few times at that time--⅓ of the time, it was almost all open, ⅓ of the time, you'd have the main front side blues and greens and a few runs in Hermosa open, and ⅓ of the time it was in between, with a solid half of everything open.

    Totally agree about Standish being a top tier zone at sunshine. My first day skiing here had extremely poor visibility in the two high alpines, leaving only Standish with visible advanced terrain offerings. That led to one of the most fun storm days I’ve ever skied running lap after lap down all those short butt-clenching chutes. Such a blast!

    The trail map makes the gondola look like it is two separate gondolas. Is it just a midstation at Goat's Eye or do you have to get off of the gondola and walk a short distance to a separate (unconnected) gondola to continue up to the base of Lookout Mtn?

    • @Skier72
      @Skier72 5 дней назад

      There are many spots along the access road that people will park, and the resort runs a shuttle bus. I think Sunshine also offers a bus service from the Banff train station. A good thing about the parking lot's small size: it makes you get to the mountain super early for a good spot. The gondola usually opens an hour and a half earlier than all the other lifts, so I usually head on up it as soon as it opens, and chill in the lodge until Angel opens.

    If there is a size-able line at Montezuma on a weekend, it’s almost always faster to bypass it, go down Jaybird/Dercum’s Dash (or Schoolmarm/Ina’s Way if you can’t do blues) and take the Summit Express lift. I was a lift operator there last year and almost never used Montezuma. If you are adept at groomed blues, try going down Flying Dutchman, then Beger (which is groomed like 70% of the time, check the app on the day you visit), and then Dercum’s Dash. It’s usually quick, full frontside laps with minimal wait.

    • @kalen1702
      @kalen1702 7 дней назад

      Also, directly to the left of Montezuma’s lift line (coming from Schoolmarm/Last Chance) is an off-shoot that takes you to a direct cut-out towards Jaybird (Orfint Boy). So you can scan the lift line and bail if you want to. It is kind of steep and icy. You need to turn left like 100 feet after using it or you’ll end up on Bobtail which is a moguled blue (there are signs). If you are looking to try mogul blues for the first time, I’d recommend that run.

    Some rough timestamps for later review and others to use: 0:46 Summit Six chair/pod overview 1:10 South Chutes/Towers 3:16 Mid Mountain groomed runs (eg Fascination) 5:09 Virgin Mile 7:17 Bob's/Bluffs/Rakaia I actually was at Mt Hutt when this came out and had the opportunity to do Chair Bowl (4:27) on your recommendation - definitely agree that this was nice and uncomplicated Intermediate terrain (with a great view too)!

  • @krissp8712
    @krissp8712 7 дней назад

    Broadway is a super nice wide blue, plenty of space for people the spread out. It's so much nicer than trying to stay on the narrow Highway 72! Especially the lower third of 72 - that bit past the bend under the triple - where it tends to get a bit slushy and weird. I definitely recommend lapping Broadway on the Norwest as soon as beginners feel confident with it. It's a very "sessionable" type run that you can just do over and over again if you're trying to get some practice in or just trying to dodge the Summit line, even if you're breaking up each runs a bit more with the chair than going the whole way up. Overall I just think Broadway just has so many more advantages over the Highway 72. I also definitely agree with the bits around 2:00-:30 about the trail map being a bit weird too! I agree it's definitely more up to date, as sadly it looks like some areas are changing or shrinking. But the way they've placed the trails ontop of the painting is deranged (for two starters; the piste for the International obviously does not go upwards into the rocks, and you can clearly see the natural bumps where the trail actually goes on the painting! And the top of the Norwest is drawn like utter spaghetti). But I could yap about that all day lol. Anyway, great summary of the lower mountain. I definitely want to go back and hit the International some day as I get better and better, it looks absolutely fabulous when you're driving up to Mt Hutt!!

  • @krissp8712
    @krissp8712 7 дней назад

    Woohoo! I really want to go visit there some day -- that view out of the Boundary Bowl is specular! Maybe just towards the end of the season when it's not so cold -- and even then, I still might have to get some of those mittens from the sponsor!

    I’ve lucked out on upper 5 a couple times the past few years, including a sneaky May 2nd bluebird pow day this past spring (it was a Thursday, definitely a top 3 day I’ve ever had at Louise). The truly legendary run is a portion above the typical entrance to upper 5 called Diagonal Chute, which only patrollers can typically access. My dad has been skiing there for 50+ years and has gotten a first name basis with their avy control guys. He was lucky enough to ski it a couple years back.

    12:28 - SRG states "Bear in mind, I haven't skied Heavenly", yes I think everybody should bear that statement in mind. I was surprised to hear you confess this after such a perfectly accurate and brilliantly entertaining "Haters Guide" video. I have skied Heavenly for 32 years, worked the mountain for almost 2 decades, year round for most of it, ran lifts, built lifts, turned wrenches on lifts, groomed runs, cut trails, installed snowmaking lines, you name it. I'll tackle these point by point, if I may? - The Aerial tram has pathetic hourly capacity, it's primary value is logistical in that supplies are transported nightly for the lodges and it is an important transport mode for employees of the upper vehicles shop and Lakeview Lodge. Injured skiers are downloaded via the tram to a clinic located at its' base. - Prior to cutting, Pinnacles was called "Ski Ways," the area gets blasted by prevailing winds, when they "Vail", despite being warned, cut the run they soon discovered that the trees were acting as a natural snow fence. The new run was just a wind tunnel. They tried to mitigate this through the installation of wind fences which could be raised and lowered. No further runs were ever cut in this area again and in my opinion never should be. Ski Ways was lost forever. This is why runs dropping off Upper California Trail are unlikely to be cut. - The top of Upper California trail and the bottom of Lower California trail would be terrifying for beginners, regardless of what your cool little gradient graph shows. - A Pinnacles chair would be exposed to crazy winds/ice/rime and would never be practical. Tamarack chair at Tower 8 already gets hit hard. When Sky chair goes on wind hold, Tamarack soon follows. Your thinking on linear wind direction and chair operation does not apply here, topography interferes with the winds, creates pressure differentials causing frequent changes in direction, we would call it "swirling". - There was once a chair proposed (and approved) from the base of Sky to the top of the Gondola, it was designated as J Chair (there is still a survey line visible and dirt pad and access road for the top station at Tower 22 of the Gondola). It would have been a fun little cat track from the top station of the chair to the base of Tamarack or Big Easy in the case of Tamarack on wind hold. This chair would be out of the wind and would bypass Skyline trail, however, it would not open up any new interesting ski terrain so maybe that's why they never bit the bullet on this one. J Chair would change Heavenly and no one knows it. - A Six chair on Dipper is inevitable, maybe by 2044! - Comet terminals need modernization for sure. A more compact base terminal would create more space for a better maze, this area needs 90 degree loading (as is at Powderbowl). - Why does a new Mott need a bend and a mid station? How about a fixed quad from Mott base to top of Dipper? That'll fix access to gates 1, 2 and 3. They need to cut a road from base of Killebrew to base of Mott that a groomer can maintain, that's a different rabbit hole though. - Galaxy should be a detachable, agreed. What wasn't mentioned was the connectivity it could provide from the top of Stagecoach to upper Nevada via a faster Galaxy. Pepis trail from the top of Stagecoach is a flat slog that is often wind scoured down to ice if not dirt, an alternate route would make a difference. - Boulder detach, yep, needed. - Boulder parking garage, interesting, again, would probably be paid parking. Prepare for winter grid lock on Kingsbury Grade! Did I miss anything? Did anyone make it to the end? My son told me nobody would read this, he's probably right. Oh well.

      You're son's wrong 😂. For the record, Arjun wrote the Heavenly Hater's Guide, hence why it was so accurate. We will never make a video that solely focuses on a ski resort we've never skied. Between the two of us, we have to have authentic experience skiing it (unlike some channels).

    I snowboard mainly Kirkwood but when we overnight there is almost no services there so we go to Heavenly. I hate Heavenly for all the reasons you stated. I mean the cat tracks are eternal and required for almost everything and the California side is downright dangerous on crowded days which is most days.

    the snow quality is no different than any other mountain in CO, and ive experienced relatively little wait for lift lines compared to other mountains in NA, never waited more than a few minutes and usually go about 20 days a year, also there is free parking serviced by a free shuttle but i guess some poser that is talking shit on the internet bc its fashionable to hate on vail arbitrarily wouldnt know that ❤
