@22:22 Erens eyes are welling up with tears, meaning he is hurt by what he did, but he’s trying to hide it by showing one eye at a side angle to not show weakness. My best guess for hurting them is to burn bridges, yes he cares for them but he needs them to see him as the BAD GUY for his plan to work. No diplomacy, no talking it out. You’ll find more out at the end of the season.

That trait originated from his predecessor, who he qas playing catch with. You notice he was wearing glasses and Zeke wasn't, after Zeke has the Beast Titan, Zeke now has glasses. Just another cool detail by Isayama.

In S2, after Eren gets kidnapped, Hannes talks to Armin and Mikasa about their relationship with Eren, and he points out how their relationship is lousy (or toxic, depending on the translation available on the platform you watch) It's a scene that no one pays much attention to, but I always think about it when they talk about the trio's relationship, from the beginning Eren always depended on Mikasa and Armin to get him out of the mess he got himself into. Also, remember in the first season how Eren was uncomfortable and irritated whenever Mikasa saved him or showed concern for him?

I don't think Armin had a crush on Annie before he inherits the colossal. Maybe Annie had a crush on him but I don't think so either, she just didn't want to kill her friends. What I think because Bertolt watched Annie a lot, Armin had a lot of Annie in his head, so he ended up getting a crush on her, but not like "part of him is Bertolt now", the memories influenced but the feeling is his, that's my opinion.

Fun fact: the painting behind Mikasa and Eren at 22:00 is just a screenshot from the game Empire: Total War. You can barely make out the British Red Ensign flag flown at the stern of the ship on the left. The background artist got a little lazy. The existence of a naval battle painting like that in Paradis doesn't even make sense, so it has to have come from Marley.

Yes this season is darker than the others. But there is a reason to it. Since we learned the knowledge of the basement, everything changed. Did you ever see that Eren was like that in the end of season 3 ? Nothing is as simple as black and white. And so, even evil is needed to create good. Making good actions in a world like that, could result in bad things. That's the sadest thing of this show. All these characters experimented suffer, on all sides, and try to deal with it. But as suffer and desire and dreams exist, some lost themselves in the abyss. I don't know who said that but it's accurate to SNK. " The longer we stare into the abyss, the more easily it gazes into us. " Armin, of all the characters ( who was the kindest of all.) massacred an entire city just by turning into the colossal.
