      Plenty of ‘west coast’ pale ales being knocked out by commercial breweries here, if I was calling this an IPA then fair enough comment but as an APA with west coast style flavour profile I don’t see any issue with that term being used

    Thanks for the helpful review. I want to brew a New Zealand Pilsner that you reviewed. I ferment in my cellar that is 16/17C at the moment. Because of this temperature, I will use the NovaLager yeast that you reviewed as it can ferment lager and pilsner at higher temperatures. However, a question remains. After bottling ales, I leave them at 20C for 2 weeks to carbonate. At what temperature should I leave the bottled New Zealand Pilsner to carbonate?

    In my very limited experience (15* 15L batches) , found Wollsaeter Kveik behaves very similar to your description of Mango Madness. No temp control, started brewing June UK (27c indoors). Thames Water + 1 Campden + 2g Epsom Salt. +2ml lactic Acid. + 5g FermaidK + 50mg Zinc Citrate + 5g VitC + Protafloc. US05 = Solvents + hangovers. Voss = Quick, vast improvement. But bit disappointing; muted aroma + flavour from ingredients. Orange rind taste to every beer as well as a "farmyard" character that i got used to and mostly mentally put it to one side but was always there. After few weeks the "Kveik pH drop" makes drinking the beer a chore. Lutra = Similar to voss, but no orange rind.....not much of anything, it chews through all aromas and flavours! Clearer looking. But also sharper tasting to start with. Then the Kveik pH drop takes it further. Might re-visit with bicarb in boil. Wollsaeter = Wow. Done in 36 hours regardless of if 22c or 32c. Silky mouthfeel, not at all acidic. Loads of hop aroma + flavour! Citra smash described as "Candied pineapple and mango bomb". Simcoe smash, "Herbal, floral heathland of heather with mild pine". Equinot smash "Boiled sweets, Opel Fruits and Apple Jacks". Still get a pH drop after few weeks, but nothing like as pronounced. On 13th re-pitch so had monies worth :) Keen to try + compare Verdant now its winter, with FV in a water bath to try and keep it below 25c. Also have Stalljen Kveik and Opshaug Kveik to try at some point. As well as must try WHC Mango Madness now :)

    The Big Lubelski?

  • @jackhorzempa3962
    @jackhorzempa3962 28 дней назад

    I appreciate the review of Lubelski Hops. I have annually brewed a reconstruction of the original Michelob beer of 1896 (which was a Bohemian Pilsner) since 2015. For those that don’t know this beer was named after a town in Bohemia. From 2015 - 2021 those beers were brewed using Czech Saaz hops. One of the homebrew vendors I purchase from started selling Lubelski hops in 2022 and that year I decided to use Lubelski hops instead of Czech Saaz hops and I really liked that batch. I was aware of the aspect that Lubelski hops are Saaz hops that were grown in Poland. As was made mention in the video review, Lubelski hops have a prominent aroma/flavor of floral but also with some herbal/spicy as well. I really enjoy the difference of floral as compared to the aroma/flavor profile of Czech Saaz hops; I still annually homebrew a Bohemian Pilsner solely using Czech Saaz so I do still enjoy that hop as well. I wrote an article about my beer I brand as 1896 Michelob which is available to read on the MoreBeer website. Cheers!

    It being a pressure fermenter doesn’t dry hopping this way defeat the purpose or the unit, the pressure being released when dry hopping which increases the risk of oxydation? Surely the best way is to use magnets in a hop bag? Of course you can also use co2 like you did.

  • @hatherlow
    @hatherlow Месяц назад

    I do similar from a bucket fermenter to a purged keg. Fv tap to beer in connector on the keg and a gas line from the keg gas post to the airlock grommet. No need for pressure in the FV just make sure pressure in keg is vented. The weight of the beer pushes the co2 out and fills the keg

      That glass was from a local festival several years ago but a lot of places sell that style as a ‘craft master’ the one in the video is a smaller 2/3rds size. Homebrew system depends a lot on budget and how you want to approach it, personally I think a basic kettle and brew in the bag approach is a great starting point as it’s fairly cheap and you can build up to a bigger 3 vessel system or get an all in one and use the kettle as a sparge water heater still if you end up progressing

    What’s your view on the PET kegs that seem to be gaining popularity? Based on your findings, do you think the PET kegs are good way of oxidising many litres of good beer?

    • @DudesBrews
      @DudesBrews 3 месяца назад

      I haven’t used them but they should perform much better than the bottles for a few reasons surface to volume ratio, thicker material and oxygen barrier being the main ones, I imagine in the long term stainless kegs would still be superior as far as oxygen ingress goes so it depends how long you are likely to have beer in a keg to an extent. I believe kegland themselves quote shelf life up to 6 months in oxebar kegs. Personally I will stick with SS
