Switzerland = STUNNING 🇨🇭 || Nobody prepared us for Bern...
You may be ludicrously expensive, but we forgive you, Switzerland. Why? Because you have positively gorgeous landscapes. We've seen beauty on this trip, but few places have been able to rival YOUR beauty. And as for the city: Bern was quite unique. Maybe not the most architecturally diverse, but it still managed to leave us with many happy memories.

A new city, a new year! | An unplanned New Year's in MUNICH!
Просмотров 607День назад
We never intended to go to Munich, but that doesn't mean we didn't enjoy our time there! We saw beautiful sights, drank many, MANY drinks while ringing in the New Year, and even caught up with an old college friend of Lauryn's (what are the chances?!). It wasn't the holiday we expected when we designed the trip last year but then again, it wouldn't be very on-brand for us if everything went acc...
Prague in a word: BEAUTIFUL 🇨🇿 | We LOVED it here!

Everyone kept telling us Prague was a beautiful city, and that we'd fall in love with it. And guess what? They were ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. This place invoked the same feeling of wonder as cities like Edinburgh, Paris, and Bruges for us. The sights were stunning, and the people were so, SO friendly. There was a moment when we thought we were going to miss out on coming here, but our adventure continu...

Our time in Berlin had some high highs and the lowest of lows. Between the recent history on display, the overall vibe of the city, and a situation we'll explain next week, much of these 5 days in Berlin were overshadowed by a very somber feeling. AND YET, we still saw some memorable things here some we were expecting, others we stumbled upon. It wasn't the Christmas in Germany we expected to h...

What an incredible welcome to Germany! This was the first of 3 stops in the country, and the things we experienced here blew us away. From the stunningly detailed Miniatur Wunderland, to a Christmas market with Santa soaring overhead, to a bar with the most eclectic drinks menu, we had a blast in Hamburg, and we HIGHLY recommend anyone coming to Germany to give this city a visit! In a city with shroom shops, weed cafes, and sex shops of all kinds on nearly every city block (not to mention a world-famous Red Light District), you'll ALSO find the incredibly moving Anne Frank House which we can confidently say is one of the highlights of our entire trip. By the end of our 3-day stay, we were absolutely enamored with the city and that's saying something, because our accommodation situation made our first night one of the worst we've experienced on the trip. We weren't sure what to expect from our short stay in Luxembourg but as it turned out, our time in the city included more than beautiful viaducts, clean streets, and a lovely panoramic elevator. Wow, I didn't realise how much life uncertainty you had to return home to, and must have done so, by now. I'm not just interested now in your experiences and reflections of your trip and traveling but I'm going to want to know about the return home and what has become of you both since! I hope it's positive! With regard to Bern & Switzerland, your experiences seem to broadly reflect what others in my experience say - not a particularly interesting place to go but the location and views are stunning.

    • @qlctravels
      @qlctravels 2 дня назад

      Indeed, it was an... interesting... few months getting settled post-trip. Perhaps we'll go into detail in a future video about how that all came together. Yeah, Bern itself wasn't a standout, but the overall experience was great (I'm sure our wallets begged to differ). Originally we had more of Switzerland in our route, and we wonder now how a city like Zurich would have compared. I can't remember our exact logic for choosing Bern as our single Swiss destination, but I want to say our research described it in very Bruges-esque terms, and we were probably in Berlin or Prague at the time of booking everything, so the idea of a smaller city likely swayed our decision. Did your comment refer to Switzerland more broadly, or just Bern? Would we have been likely to have a similar experience regardless of where we stayed in the country?

    I’ve enjoyed all your videos from day 1 but this one is my favourite. Not just for the landscape and city but the way you two seem so at ease there. Scary how there is NO snow at all there on Jan 3rd! 😮 Best wishes from Nottingham, UK.

      The multi level shops is a lot like Chester in England. The prices in Switzerland do sting. Not least the tax not being included in the ticket price. But when wait staff earn about £40k it makes a little more sense why a family burger meal can be £100.

    • @qlctravels
      @qlctravels 2 дня назад

    I am glad you enjoyed the trip and now that you got your bearings, there is less pressure staying close to the city centre all the time or at least during mid day. I myself avoid Prague 1 during the day apx. between lunch time and late afternoon to avoid the crowds + there aren´t any shops that you can´t find elsewhere in the city. I head to Prague one on weekends early in the morning, enjoying the sunrise with an entirely empty city.... Its magical. Even though I live only 15min walk down hill to the Muzeum, we seem to be sheltered from tour groups and you truly are in an authentic neighbourhood (Prague 2 Vinohrady) and yet its beautiful, full of life, great places to eat, drink, rest, shop .... So next time I suggest Prague 2,3, 6 and 7 as well as 10... All are close by and quick by transport... plus do try hopping on a train and visiting other cities around the country.... And hopefully on your next visit, Wenceslas square will be finally redone & becoming a pedestrian avenue with trams, extra trees and booting out these cars clogging the place everywhere....

    First, let me express my sincere condolences about your loss.... Second, to my hometown: I know you've been in Prague for just 2 days, but you've barely seen 2% of what Prague has to offer - you've missed so much, from marvellous buildings, amazing parks, grandious city quarters/neighborhoods, unique museums (WWII + Soviet/USSR museum, Alfons Mucha, Franz Kafka, National Museum) etc.. To see the city proper, you would need to stay 2 weeks at least... If you'll be coming back one day, let me know, I can show you the true hidden gems... P.S. 1: 19:26 - that's not a pope, but the Czech martyr St. John of Nepomuk - he was a priest, who denied to disclose the King Václav IV what secrecy his wife told him, so the king let him and 4 others slaughtered and later on thrown into the Vltava river from the Charles bridge... He then later became canonized and is today seen as a protector of all bridges in Europe, you can find him in many different countries.. P.S. 2: 24:09 - it's called the Infinite book tower, so you need to look INSIDE - there are mirrors on the up and bottom, which let you feel like the tower was never ending...

    that toy store reminded me a bit of the City Museum in St Louis. took my husband there on his first visit to STL. they have a 10-STORY SLIDE. the building is the old international shoe company, and the slide was actually a chute that they'd send goods down when completed. the museum is actually only about 3-4 stories, so you take an elevator or staircase to the top and you can see through the platform below you, just a mass of bars and slats, truly terrifying. my husband made the mistake of not laying fully flat - I think his wallet was getting caught as we went down, so he picked up his knees and then banged them into the bars just above. the space you slide down does not have a lot of headroom. but same guys, terrifying and fast. love your videos! we really look forward to them every week!
