  • Everyone kept telling us Prague was a beautiful city, and that we'd fall in love with it. And guess what? They were ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. This place invoked the same feeling of wonder as cities like Edinburgh, Paris, and Bruges for us. The sights were stunning, and the people were so, SO friendly. There was a moment when we thought we were going to miss out on coming here, but our adventure continued from Berlin -- and now, we can't imagine having not experienced this magical city.

So sorry for losing your grandma. I am glad you enjoyed Prague! Perhaps the sights and nice experience helped to dull the pain a bit. Czech people are very nice and empathetic. Prague is my most favorite city I used to live there for some time and I am relocating back there again soon. Good vibes for your travels! :-)

I am glad you enjoyed the trip and now that you got your bearings, there is less pressure staying close to the city centre all the time or at least during mid day. I myself avoid Prague 1 during the day apx. between lunch time and late afternoon to avoid the crowds + there aren´t any shops that you can´t find elsewhere in the city. I head to Prague one on weekends early in the morning, enjoying the sunrise with an entirely empty city.... Its magical. Even though I live only 15min walk down hill to the Muzeum, we seem to be sheltered from tour groups and you truly are in an authentic neighbourhood (Prague 2 Vinohrady) and yet its beautiful, full of life, great places to eat, drink, rest, shop .... So next time I suggest Prague 2,3, 6 and 7 as well as 10... All are close by and quick by transport... plus do try hopping on a train and visiting other cities around the country.... And hopefully on your next visit, Wenceslas square will be finally redone & becoming a pedestrian avenue with trams, extra trees and booting out these cars clogging the place everywhere....

Sorry to hear about your loss, I'm sure your gran is proud of you both.
Prague is a beautiful city, but it really is architecture overload. We missed out on the castle due to a world leaders conference but there was still so much to see. Much as I love my home city, Edinburgh, but Prague is on another level.

Sorry to hear your loss o a loved one.from what you said she wanted you to go there and I’m sure would loved to hear your stories on your return.
A few years ago when the Czech Republic was Czechoslovakia and under Russian control you probably wouldn’t have been allowed into the country as US citizens. The place is so friendly and beautiful now its Westernised.
I was there about 10 years ago and went on to Dresden & Berlin. Seeing the changes in Prague, Dresden & Berlin was incredible. In Berlin you could see the marked differences between east & west.
Hope the rest of your journey is ok. So from Wales, Blwyddyn Newydd Dd, a Happy New Year in Welsh.

So sorry to hear about the passing of your grandma...I've had a similar situation while traveling in Europe. Glad you were able to continue your travels to Prague, that would mean something you her! I do wonder what was the great Italian restaurant (if you remember:) Hope to head there next year.

that toy store reminded me a bit of the City Museum in St Louis. took my husband there on his first visit to STL. they have a 10-STORY SLIDE. the building is the old international shoe company, and the slide was actually a chute that they'd send goods down when completed. the museum is actually only about 3-4 stories, so you take an elevator or staircase to the top and you can see through the platform below you, just a mass of bars and slats, truly terrifying. my husband made the mistake of not laying fully flat - I think his wallet was getting caught as we went down, so he picked up his knees and then banged them into the bars just above. the space you slide down does not have a lot of headroom. but same guys, terrifying and fast. love your videos! we really look forward to them every week!

Yeah, I thought you would visit Prague and whilst I've never been there, I used to have an acquaintance from České Budějovice in the south, who was there a lot, and I've seen lots of great images of both those places, so I kind of knew how you would feel about it. The images I have seen were mostly stills, so your video for me was also a pleasure in showing me the place and getting an even better feel for how it looks and feels.
That said, it must have been bittersweet due to your recent loss - and belated condolences on that. I feel sure, even as a virtual stranger, that they would have preferred you to continue on your travels and see the place in particular that they wanted you to see, than go home.
And the story of how you were greeted at the hostel was moving and heartwarming.
I think a shoutout for the hostel details is in order!

I am sure your decisson to carry on with your travels was not an easy one, but it is nice to see you carry on, making the most of this one in a lifetime opportunity. xxx

Sorry about your grandmother. I know the odd feeling of travel and fun clashing with a loss from my Dad's stroke and death last year clashing with our trips and knowing there wasn't really anything I could do if I did rush across the world (he lived abroad). Just as with you I knew he would have wanted us to carry on. Hope the moving on and happy remembering is there for you now.

(Apologies for the late response; it's been a crazy month.) We're sorry to hear about your dad's recent passing 😕 It truly is a helpless feeling being so far away when losing a loved one, but the distractions over the following weeks helped, and the remembering has indeed been happy.

First, let me express my sincere condolences about your loss....
Second, to my hometown: I know you've been in Prague for just 2 days, but you've barely seen 2% of what Prague has to offer - you've missed so much, from marvellous buildings, amazing parks, grandious city quarters/neighborhoods, unique museums (WWII + Soviet/USSR museum, Alfons Mucha, Franz Kafka, National Museum) etc..
To see the city proper, you would need to stay 2 weeks at least...
If you'll be coming back one day, let me know, I can show you the true hidden gems...
P.S. 1: 19:26 - that's not a pope, but the Czech martyr St. John of Nepomuk - he was a priest, who denied to disclose the King Václav IV what secrecy his wife told him, so the king let him and 4 others slaughtered and later on thrown into the Vltava river from the Charles bridge...
He then later became canonized and is today seen as a protector of all bridges in Europe, you can find him in many different countries..
P.S. 2: 24:09 - it's called the Infinite book tower, so you need to look INSIDE - there are mirrors on the up and bottom, which let you feel like the tower was never ending...

20k is around what we spent for our entire trip (not counting plane tickets), but we probably could have saved a few thousand if we'd been smarter about cooking food in hostels instead of eating out so much.

@@qlctravels if we were to have went in the offseason Oct-Dec or Feb-April we would have saved 40%. Plane tickets alone were 4700 through DELTA. Then I had to rent AirBnb or Hotels because I have my teenage daughter. That was 4-5k. Then all the Tickets for everything. Rent a car for the highlands. We are at 13k plus we are bringing 5-7k with us. First time out of the country make the best of it.
