some of the architecture in Rome is trickery! I took a week-long Baroque Art class in Rome about twenty years ago.😬some things are designed with crazy proportions (like in St Peter's Basilica) to make it feel like this enormous space is actually closer to you. like the cherubs near the floor are HUGE but the ones at the top of the same column are actually twice the size, so they feel very close even though the ceiling is super high! Like walking down a hallway (getting closer to your destination) while zooming out - or vice versa.
That's fascinating! Yeah, something definitely felt "different" with a lot of the buildings we explored, so it's good to know it was deliberate and we weren't just going crazy 🤪
WOW. 2000 years later and you can still see the Colosseum as a stadium. Great moment in the video, you turn a corner and there's the massive Pantheon, it was like being transported back in time. WOW.
We loved visiting Rome too! 10 days felt too short. Beautiful architecture... but damn, all the graffiti! Had a similarly poor/odd start, with a pirate taxi and a not great hotel experience. Fantastic food almost everywhere. Love your vlogs. The lights are on in 🏴 for your return.
Thanks, Derek! 🙂 Wow, 10 days sounds amazing... The pirate taxi, on the other hand, sounds horrible. Was it someone posing as a taxi driver who demanded more money at the end, or...? You're absolutely right about the food, by the way. We miss it so much... 😭
In Italy there are fines for the outrages that are made to monuments . Unfortunately many tourists do not understand that Italy is an open-air museum and that fountains, statues, churches are works of art that could be inside the museums and should not be signed by perfect idiot barbarians
You two have been such a pleasure to watch over the past few months. You are both such lovely people. I'm guessing your trip has finished now and you are both back in the US?
Did you stay at one of those hotels near the central station (Stazione Termini)? Because those are to avoid! Why not go with something recommended by a trusted guidebook? Or a room in a shared B&b? I'm sorry it wasn't ideal.
Rome is one of the most magical cities in the world. I walked around in awe at its history and beauty. Glad you experienced it, never to be forgotten.
È la culla dell' Occidente, tutto viene da Roma.
I am in Kearney what park did you walk in and see the McDonald’s sign? LOL😂😂😂 Rome is amazing! So beautiful.
Thanks for visiting. 🥂

Good to see your enjoyment of a city my wife tells me is wonderful. Just enough info on your Romeing fees too.

The Pantheon reveal was stunning in person. It felt so massive as we approached. Definitely not a moment we'll ever forget.

@@qlctravels Yeah, an old guy appeared at the bus station where we were dropped off, asking if we needed a cab. 10 minutes later... €80.

There was a great little restaurant near the colosseum. Divinostilia. Great food. Great wine.
The thought of eating authentic Italian food and drinking wine with the Colosseum just casually sitting in the background...
We have to go back! 😭

Aww thank you! 😊 Yes, the trip finished on February 1st. We're back and settled into our new lives in Colorado.

When did you go? Obviously not recent since your wearing coats 😆
This video is from January 13-14, and is days 73-74 of a trip that went from November 1 to February 1.
