Sailing Nendaz
Великобритания
Добавлен 1 ноя 2021
We're the Hansons, made up of Flick, Joe and Walter, and we're inviting you to transition with us from our safe, steady, land-based life to a totally new adventure on the high seas aboard our Gib'Sea 402 blue water sailing boat Nendaz.
Nendaz is named after a small town in the mountains in Switzerland, one close to our hearts, an ode to our love for the mountains that we can bring with us on our journey across the seas.
We're steadily upgrading the boat from a weekend boat to a full-time live aboard and trying to do as much as possible ourselves. Watch as we become mechanics, plumbers, engineers, electricians, carpenters, and finally untie the lines and then the real adventure begins!
We post weekly videos every Friday.
We're hoping to use this channel to document our adventure and perhaps along the way we might make it all seem a little more attainable for others of you who are craving something a little different from your lives.

E59 An INSIGHT Into Passage Life...Crossing the BIG BLUE to Italy.
Join us as we finally leave Spain and sail east to the Italian island of Sardinia. We'll show you what we get up to on passage, and that while it might sound romantic sometimes the biggest challenge on a longer crossing is keeping yourself entertained.
We clean up the boat, scrubbing the bottom and getting our first taste of silly season in the Balearics.
We made this crossing in June 2023. Stay tuned for our next episode to survive the Summer with us in Sardinia during the HOTTEST SUMMER ON RECORD.

E54 Learning to DIY tune your YACHT rigging
Просмотров 432Год назад
Join us this week as I learn to DIY tune our rigging on our 40ft sail boat. We noticed that our leeward lower/ intermediate shrouds were very saggy when sailing upwind in 20 knots. After doing some research I realised this was less than ideal and is something we should address sooner rather than later. So I set about tuning our rigging, pre-tensioning the cap shrouds and backstay. Let us know h...

E49 Should we BUY a CATAMARAN? Helping a FRIEND with a HOLE in their BOAT

Join us for this weeks episode as we continue our journey down the Mallorcan Coast. We give Tash an experience of what it means to be a liveaboard cruiser. And we end up helping out a cruiser in need with a hole in their boat due to a seacock that had sheared off, leaving a 3/4 inch hole in their hull below the waterline. It left us wondering whether we should buy a catamaran? And how could we ...
Rescuing a sailing yacht crashed on the rocks

With the help of some other boats we pulled a sailing yacht off the rocks. It was stuck, having dragged anchor in the night. The Coastguard tried to pull the boat off with brute force earlier in the morning, failed and went home. With a little bit of brain power we successfully got her off the rocks!

Great Videos 👍 ..
Sorry to hear you selling her, but wish you the best...and, sounds like congratulations are also in order!
Aaaaah thank you so much 🙏🏼 we have a three month old little girl now. We might get round to editing backlog of footage soon to round off the story!
@@sailingnendaz please do, we have been missing you guys...not the sea sickness though! 😅
Brilliant and very helpful video. Thank You !! Our problem is the ram goes in by hand, but not out. With drive motor engaged or rotating the disassembled head, it goes both ways. Something is then jamming the linear drive one way inside which prevents manual steering. If anyone knows why ? I would be very grateful ???
That is a strange one. Maybe it’s something to do with the electrical connection to the motor? The connection is okay that makes the arm go out, but there’s a bad connection on the connection that reverses the motor? Just a guess. Did you figure it out already?
@@sailingnendaz Having looked further, the thrust bearing on the shaft had excessive play due to a broken roll pin which allowed it to move and jamb in one direction. Hudson Marine sell spare parts and show an exploded diagram which was a great help !
@malcolmdavid722 aaaah well done on fixing! Yes Hudson Marine is where we got our kit from too.
Thanks for this video...might not need to phone the $145/hr folks. If you don't get lucky with #1 TDC, is a ratchet on crank easy? (no injector removal? And..what size drill bits fit the locking holes in the cam, crank and fuel pump? Thanks again for an informative video.
Ratchet on crank is pretty easy to turn for our engine. I think it was 6.5mm drill bits for a really good fit. But I used a combination of 6mm and 6.5mm as it was what I had available. It’s the same size hole across the engine. Hope you manage to get sorted!
@@sailingnendaz Thanks...appreciated!
Can you please give me the Web page address please get job.
Can you please v tell me
Tell you what?
Nice video... what was the catchy little tune at the end? @16:57
Gosh! I’m not sure sorry, we get all the music from Epidemic Sounds.
You're all sour grapes.
You’ve very much misunderstood
Inspirational video👍 I hope to do some runs in Gibraltar one day.
It’s a really nice place to run up on the hill! Down in the town, less so.
My Perkins is a closed system, meaning well you know what that means. I use Starbrite anti freeze in mine to protect the metal and gaskets. It’s synthetic and is supposed to last 10 years. 😳
The sand could be from the previous owner. IF the heat exchanger core was leaking, it could have gotten sand in the engine if they entered aground?? It would be interesting to see what is in your muffler???
Quick and shoddy wins. Artists always suffer.
A new gasket i hope?
The pump is machined to not need a paper gasket apparently. Liquid gasket is sufficient. We asked the manufacturer.
Beautiful Visla .
If only it were these conditions all the time 😂❤
Loving the drone footage 🥰🙌
Not so great. Try John Deere AN102562 grease. Also, you could grease the motor bearings and replace the carbon brushes, if they need it.
Fantastic video, thanks so much! Did the noises disappear with the change of gears? My drive is currently making the same noise and does not feel very smooth when trying to move the rod in and out. So I suspect our drive will also give up soon. Because of the resistance I thought it might be the clutch but thanks to your video I think the problem might be on the gears. Did you also feel difference in force needed to push the rod in and out? Thanks again and fair winds!
I think the force was similar. But the noise was a lot quieter once we replaced the parts ☺️ if you have the same problem then eventually you will just lose all drive
@@sailingnendaz Thanks a lot for the fast answer! I will just dismount it and take a look inside :). Thanks again for the very nice video.
I have two of the drives on my boat. So thanks a bunch.
Great video. I have mine half apart and this takes the mystery out of the tasks ahead. BTW this is the first time I have ever commented on RUclips. So enjoy my best comment to date.
Aaaaah congrats on the first comment. And I’m glad this was of some help for you!
Transducer manufacturers state the acceptable angle, in degrees, from zero, for the unit you purchase.
Acetone and a rag for rub marks. Quick and easy. Try diesel and a sponge for vinyl lettering. Diesel, below the filler, got under the vinyl on my boat. A home port letter almost slid off with minimal input from me. Good luck.
Was you getting any error messages on your chartplotter ?
I’m honestly not sure - it was a bit chaotic in the moment. But it was making some horrible grinding noises and wasn’t able to keep the boat in a straight line. It was quite rough sea 🌊
Know the feeling. We are trying to service and repair ours after changing everything else out . Where did you get your parts from
All the best for the new year guys. Well done. Keep up the good work. SV Kiwi Lady Opua Bay of islands New Zealand 👍🏿
Happy New Year Russell ☺️
Can you add the part number you ordered ? We have the same issue and need to replace.
Manners maketh man 😝
Hi Sailingiwa2045: what age is you autopilot? Here is the part you need: Raymarine N021 Heavy Duty Gear.
@@malagpraustralia bought it with the boat so could but 23 years old. We have put over 6,000 miles on it. I am going to rebuild it and hold it as a spare and install a new one.

New subscriber and tryiyng to cacth up on all your video's. Very Enjoyable.. Have you thought about using the Rocker Stopper System?
We’ve never tried that! Not really read much about them either. Do you have any experience with them? I wonder how much they help 🧐
Nice job. That’s on our winter jobs list. Thanks for informative vid.

Quality video - thanks for sharing . Don't anchor alarms work in those conditions?
Thanks Chris! We asked ourselves the same question. We don’t think he had one on, although some people do turn off their equipment and hide their phones in lightning storms so maybe there’s an excuse?
Awesome video!
Hello!! I was watching your episode on another channel called @Exploring Alternatives and as soon as you said in the video that you also have a channel to help support the costs ,I immediately went to search! However w your lovely accent (I live in USA & I love your UK accents!) But I cldnt quite understand what you said? LOL it sounded like "at sailing NZ" to me,haha so I put that in search & found TONS of ppl living in sailing boats such as you, but these were all NEW ZEALAND! LoL So I thought to myself maybe it's the name of the boat? So I typed in search bar "@ sailing Nandez & low and Behold up u popped!! LOL I subscribed to your channel then went back to finish the episode on Exploring Alternatives! Omg I'm so dumb! I cldve just read in description and comments the name of ur channel! Duh! Haha What the hell? I read in comments on thar channel some pretty far fetched stupid opinions!! How did ppl think you possibly were making Felicity go sailing when it was her who came back to you w all the users and boundaries on how to try to live? Shame on them Calling you any of those names! They totally& clearly were not watching the correct video? Not the one I saw??! I did see in episode that Felicity did say ""Personally On Her Part! She had some sea sickness and sailing anxiety! But she shared her deep personal feelings and experiences in order to help others NOT to bad mouth her husband or say He Made her Live on Sailing Yacht! Ugh some ppl never learned if you can't say something nice, don't say Anything At All!! Or maybe they did & decided to ignore what they learned as basic human common courtesy!? At any rate, Love Your channel! Omg I'm hurting physically today (have Lupus & Rheumatoid Arthritis got diagnosed at 23& when some of your parts of the video it's just watching the beautiful water, no talking, it helped me physically feel better! I started using my bio feedback and it just mesmerized me! I even started drifting to sleep! Haha which is great, but I wanted to watch more of your videos! And it really helped w pain tho, so thank you! I'm not watching in any type of order, but on this episode it dawned on me I heard that music b4 and immediately thought of Gangs of Youth?!! Is that their song only slowed down, and instrumental?? If not type in RUclips search Gang of Youths "DON'T LET YOUR SPIRIT WANE" As the instrumental parts or whole instrumental song they did of this song sounds. Like the music part in this episode! Listen to yours and that and see if u can hear the similarities??!! Anyways, I do hope you read this as. Your video this episode was posted a year ago! Keep up the great jobs & both of you do not let your spirits wane!! You are exactly Where You are Supposed to be at this moment in your life! Blessings from a new fan & subscriber from Dayton Ohio USA the invention capital of the world! (I can tell you tons of things you use that were invented in the Miami Valley area & Ohio! ❤❤❤ ⛵⚓⛵🛶⛵
Aww this is such a lovely message to read, thank you so much! I’m so glad you enjoyed the EA video and appreciate our candidness, we tried to avoid reading the comments 😂 sometimes that’s sensible I think when you put yourself out there! We are so pleased that you liked our videos and they helped with your pain ❤️❤️
@@sailingnendaz hi dears! Love love love your videos! I'm now vicariously living thru you two! LoL & omg your videos between the scenic views and when you two are silly, w great humor, or interesting w some facts,(I love to learn!) All of your content truly helps w my Physical pain!!! Thank you!! I found out why I'm hurting badly now, I have a compressor fracture in my hip, (along w a broken baby toe!) So the break in hip gives pain, but Dr asked what helps me to not be in pain & I said "Watching @Sailingnendaz channel on RUclips, about a cpl of young marrieds are living on their yacht & sailing and documenting their experiences! Along w laying on left side and being still while I watch!" He wrote your channel down& said he'll check it out! He loves to sail! So hopefully he will check it out! Hey really writing to you as I was wondering if you ever listened to song in my original comment? The music in This Video Sounds as if it is Gang Of Youths & the song "Do Not Let Your Spirit Wane"? If it's not that song, what song is it? & Did you listen to the song in your video and then the instrumental version of that song!? I'm super curious what that song is in your video in this one!? Thanks for the reply! I truly appreciate that you took the time out of your life to reply! You're so kind!!!! (BTW, My dad used to have a yacht! Now he just has smaller boats at age 87!) Blessings! Stay safe you beautiful souls!!!
What a beautiful place 🥰 adds to bucketlist 😅
The Balearics in general is just our favourite place to have visited so far. It’s beautiful. Just make sure to avoid it outside of July and August as it gets unbearably busy!
Hello from LA!
Hello from Greece! 🇬🇷
Bro I just going to leave my dog on the boat, get my visa and go about my fucking life. I doubt that any one will take another look at you and your dog. Doubt every cop on the street will say " hey you, I know you just arrived by boat, and that must be a foreign dog!" LOL no one's going to bother you
It only takes one official to do everything by the book “official” and then the dog is quarantined or deported. A pretty big risk to take with a member of the family. We have stopped bothering “checking in” Walter into various countries but we do make sure he has all the vaccinations including rabies titer test just in case anyone questioned it.
I wish I never did the OPPs time to do it again . But then again one only does that one time or you a slow learner.
Sorry! What’s an OPP?
Nice work👍
Thanks Aleksi, always something to fix!
Very thorough. Interesting.
Thank you William, definitely keeps us on our toes
Great video well done👍👍

Hi, just subbed after seeing your Alternative guestspot. You guys don't sound very Madchester. Looking forward to your channel. Do you have a video where you breakdown the boat and equipment costs? I'm hoping Joe has a spreadsheet somewhere.
Welcome! Flick grew up in Kent and Joe grew up in a town outside of Manchester called Macclesfield which doesn’t have a particularly strong accent. ☺️
Quick or hot drying will make your repair more brittle but the area you are in will not matter
That’s good to know 👍🏼 what I had hoped
Cute dog, and good on you for taking him along on your adventure!
He is a very well travelled pup 🧡
We miss you so much! awesome to see you guys are having a blast. Fantastic filming, editing and story telling! Hope one day we can meet again <3
Aaaaaah I hope you are doing well! We are enjoying ourselves over here, but the Mediterranean winter is coming, although very slowly, it is very warm at the moment.
Hi guys, your videos are awesome, thanks for all this sharing!! I have a quick question, I'm about to buy the same sailboat and I would like to know your average speed in several conditions: upwind, side, downwind with 15 and 20 knots wind. There is very few information about this sailboat on the internet, do you have a specific website with some information? Thanks a lot !! Enjoy !
Thanks Arthur - that is very sweet. Check out the boat tour video ☺️ generally the boat was considered a performance cruiser in its time. Quite speedy for boats of this era. We manage 5.5/6 knots easy with say 12-15 knots downwind. Similarly on the beam. Upwind a bit slower, naturally. We are setup with mainsail and 120% headsail. But you’d definitely benefit from a spinnaker of sorts. Feel free to hit me up with any queries or questions about the boat! We love her.
With the coming spiritual awakening you will discover what the legendary Mallorca really is, you will faint =)
Good video ! Walter is still a star ! I liked the music chosen toward the end. It seemed to fit with the beach surroundings.
Thanks Lennie! Hope you are doing well. I’ll ping you an email. Got some engine questions to pick your brain over.
