Nice job Flick! Also well jelly that your primary filter is way easier to change than ours. I am all for an engine bay where you lift the whole thing out on a rack ❤
Haha, your ‘enthusiasm ‘ is just like mine, lol - same attitude when it comes to engines 🙄 this is what we bring our captains with us for, right 😅 my hubby would and probably will one day make me do the same, all in the name of ‘essential education’ 😂😂
On the Volvo Penta MD22 (Which is basically the same) you have to prime to Oil filter. The fun thing is, If you fill it (not to much), you can turn it, and it won't leak oil. Next thing... you can punch a hole (with a screwdriver or a awl) in the old oil filter before removing and let the oil flow out of it in to a bucket before screwing the filter off. Then it will be a more controlled "clean" removal proces.
Good Job Flick !! here are my comments. The new oil will flow easier if you warm it up like you did the old oil. Just leave it out in the sun for a few hours before you need it. Too bad your engine designer didn't see fit to put your filter right side up. You do NOT need to prime the oil filter. There is plenty of residual oil in the engine bearings to keep them from running dry on start up. Now if you forgot to refill the oil and started the engine that would be very bad - don't do that. TIP - measure how much oil it takes to do your normal oil change and have that much in your container for refill. Then you will always put in just enough and the dipstick indicator will show the correct level saving you the second or third adding of oil. Do top up your FUEL filter (unlike the oil filter). It saves getting rid of the air in the fuel lines to a large degree.
Hi Lennie! Hope you are well, this is great info thank you. Not having to prime the oil filter will definitely save a little bit of mess in the future 😊
I thought I posted a comment yesterday, but it is not there. One more recommendation, when handling oil and fuel. Please wear protective gloves like latex or similar. That stuff gets into the pores of your skin and is not good for you. A pair of safety glasses would be good as well. If you ever flip diesel into your eye you will know what I mean...painful until you get it washed out.

Hahah 😂 glad you ended up enjoying it
It'll self prime and is less messy

It’s exactly why I brought him 😆

Good tips!

I assume the tupperware was sacrificial... no more food?
Everything on a boat has more than one use 😂

Ooooh that doesn’t sound fun! Didn’t know it was so bad for us 😨
