Oh my goodness, I had no idea this was being uploaded. I do witter ❤
you are eloquent and insightful!
I remember this - maybe a certain Greek director didn’t quite get what Glasgow meant to Alasdair. Such is life .
Wonderful, thank you for putting this up; I hadn't seen it before. So interesting to hear all the opinions and see 'Snakes and Ladders' and others, on the wall.
Hello, thanks for this! Is there any chance you could upload Kevin Cameron’s Alasdair at 80 documentary? It no longer seems to be online. It’s the one I like to send to people as an intro to Alasdair
The same "Poor Things" that just came our last year as a movie? Good to know it was a book.
I know I already made a comment but I just finished this and I need someone to draw a 12Clara AU based on this movie!
Thank you so much for sharing! I've wanted to see this for absolutely ages!
You're very welcome!
Thank you for such a rarity!
Our pleasure!
Finally! It’s been lost to time for so long! I’ve been wanting to see Peter in this for ages after seeing that one photo of Peter in this! Now if someone could only track down runway one…
Glad you enjoyed it!
Peter Capaldi!
Pity the film had to drop the double-take structure Gray took from James Hogg.
Indeed
I watched the movie due to all the praise, but found it lacking. Curious about the author's original vision, I decided to read the book, which I found fascinating! This will be an invaluable resource in digesting its contents. Big thanks to everyone involved in creating this!
Pity it couldn’t be set in Glasgow. Taking Gray out of Glasgow is like taking Dublin out of Joyce.
I would love to visit the archive, how fo I do this?
pls email us to arrange info@thealasdairgrayarchive.org
@@alasdairgrayarchive thanks already booked
Do you have to prebook a visit? Is there a bookshop/ gift shop ?

How incredibly lucky we are to have Alasdair’s adaptation of the Frankenstein story. I’m currently curating an exhibition for next March dedicated to Mary Shelley’s historic ties with the Baxter family of Dundee and will be exhibiting work by Alasdair in 2024 to help raise awareness of the intertextual legacies between Bella Baxter and Mary Shelley (then Godwin) where Dundee and Glasgow are now forever tied to the evolution of Mary Shelley’s Gothic masterpiece
Did you do it? If you did I would love some details

I'm happy to see such an incredible space open to receive his works and as a reader of many Scottish writers (even though I'm Brazilian), it's a pleasure to see this type of initiative that preserves the author's memories, styles and the legacy itself. I hope to visit soon - as soon as I return to the UK - already informing the institution that is quite common in the UK - for a foreigner to experience assumptions and doubts regarding the ability to understand Scottish culture, when "You are" a foreigner with knowledge and curiosity - and one of the reasons why I moved away from the country is the constant environment of negativity against a person who, technically, people don't believe could have or know about the research object. The work of Alasdair brings a lot of meaning about it, being neglect or not seen as someone that deserves to see as someone with valuer. However, it is the work of Alasdair Gray, Iain Banks, Alex Pheby and other incredible authors that I am still interested in studying and reading/keeping in touch with Scottish fiction and fantasy tradition. I hope that one day I will find a way to publish my works as well. Lovely video as well. Congratulations to everyone for the excellent preservation, thanks a lot! Yours sincerely, Paulo Gomes
IT'S LINDEN!
Brilliant
So good Bernard. Thinking too about similar conversations. ❤
Amen…
I cannot thank you enough for creating the collection and making this video. Alasdair’s great work ‘Lanark’ is such an important book for so many people, including me (not just a great novel, though it is certainly that as well). The risk of Alasdair’s work / vision / insight / stories / memories / ideas etc dying with him used to prey on my mind, so to see it all preserved in this way makes me very happy. Books 1 and 2 of Lanark are some of the most evocative stories of 20th century social history I have read (sadly, books 3 and 4 are becoming increasingly real as well!) and your video showing the canal, Alasdair’s home, and the collection has evoked so many of those memories all over again. Thank you. Cliff
Wow, amazing to see Stef after so many years. :)
Dear gawd in Govan - I’d no idea this was on you tube 😱 I only went into the archive to show this nervous reading to a friend - 😬This is 2 years old x
Excited for this! Can’t wait to listen in.
Thats a lovely description of his working process.....
I know, yours is coming tomorrow Nichol too and is another brilliant clip!
Is there any Gray Day/Alasdair Merch I could purchase? :)
Hopefully later this year! We are developing some ideas ...
