Lake and Lodge Garage is my personal RUclips channel where I share my passion for cars and my latest restoration project - a 1967 Firebird. Growing up in a racing family, I've been a car enthusiast my entire life. I eventually got to a point where I built and drove my own Late Model Stock Car.
After completing a three-year home building project with my wife, I decided it was time to take on a new challenge and restore a classic car. As I prepared to work on the Firebird, I found myself relying heavily on the knowledge transfer available on RUclips. I decided to create my own channel to document my experience and share what I've learned with others who are passionate about car restoration.
While the Firebird project is the main focus of the channel, I also plan to share other interesting content related to my hobbies and interests. I hope my videos inspire and help others who are considering a similar project. Thank you for tuning in and joining me on this journey.

Great info on those quarter glass trim install... that is on my list to do!
I found your videos trying to find feedback for Heidt's front subframe for a first gen Camaro. After first watching the front subframe episodes your attention to detail was so impressive I have gone back to the start to watch all the way through to get tips on my build ('68 Camaro Hardtop owned since 1981, drag raced in 80's and now rebuilding as a Pro-Touring). I plan to purchase either a Heidts or DSE front subframe assembly by Jan 10, 2025. I'd love your thoughts on why you purchased Heidts and wish you were complete so you could share how the car handles. Thank you in advance.
I will let you know as soon as the snow is gone! It looks like a really nice setup. I have a lot of experience with tubing chassis in circle track racing and I really like what I see here. The only thing I question is they call out a lot of caster. like 5 degrees which seems like a lot but we will see how it goes. Over all I am very happy with their setup.
@ thank you. You do amazing work. Thanks for sharing with everyone.
Question did you ever find or make dash extensions ? I watched about 20 videos trying to find out if there was a missing piece on the side of the dash and never found a answer.
@@jimmyjam813 yes. The inner pillar cover goes down and covers that part perfectly. It’s tough right now because I am assembling stuff that I did not take apart. And to make matters worse I seem to have parts for coupes and convertibles mixed in to the boxes that came with the car. It’s like a giant puzzle with a bunch of extra pieces some missing pieces the box picture spread all over RUclips. Thanks for watching. I truly appreciate the support.
To be honest I liked seeing the red paint on the glass and frame. Most of the build I have seen brand new and cleaned parts. I liked seeing evidence of the cars former life. Ive watched this series from the very begining and it's been awesome watching this build come together. I just wish more people could have seen it come together maybe over time more people will find the series. Lookin good !
My best friend is paying a shop to build a convertable 71 GTO similar to the quality of your car. It's a $300k build. Some famous interior guy is doing the interior for another $120k. It's amazing you have sorted this car out so nicely. Have you built several other cars ?
@@jimmyjam813 no not really. I come from a stock car racing background so I have built a ton of racing chassis and cars but this is my first street build. I am also an engineer so that helps too
@@LakeAndLodgeGarage Thanks that makes a little more sense. It's getting close I can't wait to see you take it to some shows.
Nice !
Brother you are a professional 👏
Wiring can be so frustrating!
Glad you found the issue
Tail lights look awesome 😎
Great video! I’m going to take my taillights out of my 68 to redo them this winter as I’ll bet dollars to donuts they have not been gone through…ever! lol and I’ve owned it for the last 20 years!! lol. Great winter weekend project! Thanks
Looking great man, nice rear end you go there hahahaha
Coming together! You’ll be cruising just in time for Spring.👍
This is one of those builds that every detail has been planned out very well. The builder is a perfectionist and the car shows it. Before long it's gonna have a trunk full of awards.
That's one sexy bird great job 👍
At least the butyl matches the black and copper/orange theme
My 1968 all original Survivor 400 convertible Non-A/C has the upper baffle plates. Built in CA. perhaps west coast cars goth the regardless. I installed a high volume water pump, aluminum Rad, 180-degree thermistat, and run 180-Degrees all summer long.
Consider painting the metal ahead of the dash Flat Black. I think it will minimize glare spots on the lower glass during the day.. That orange paint is going to reflect the big ball in the sky.
Yeah that would have been the smart play for sure knowing what I know now. It would take me a long time to get that dash pad off at this point. But maybe I could just paint that return that the seal sits on. That would not be too bad of a job. Thanks for your input!
@LakeAndLodgeGarage Think of how many times a piece of paper gets down there and how much its reflection annoys you. "Paint it Black" Mick Jagger
...Now I want a convertible Bird!!!!
The a pillar trim covers the gap
Yep, the pillar trim flares out to cover the gap, held down by a Phillips head screw. Also the top of the dash is often (usually?) black, so the black Butyl is not so noticeable.
Yup after you said that I had a head slap moment and pulled out the pillar covers and they cover that area perfectly. this is what happens when you buy a car in a series of laundry baskets... Thanks for watching
The bird is looking sweet
Your 100% right, I know 2 people that have over heating problems with 350 Firebirds
You made installing those tubes look like a cake walk!!!
i thought the top baffles were only a/c cars, also the bottom dam as well . my bird always ran warm even with them. what ever you do dont brace he bottom pan to the radiator in case it hits something you won't damage the radiator
Your two fan setup, is one the main fan, and the other a just incase backup?
One is the standard motor cooling fan and the other is the ac fan.
add baffles on the side of the ac condenser on my c3 corvette had a problem with ac not working well in traffic and sitting still i removed the front fan and sealed it up. Im doing the same with the bird and trust me in fl we have a heat problem. on the rear fans i used relays to wire them in series with a combination of relays to get low and high speed and that really worked well
Would love to see more on those rubber damns on the sides... I have them but how they go in???
On my 67 400 vert they just sit vertically against radiator mount and wrap around the side, behind the headlights. Each is held with two plastic toggles, up high through the radiator mount and fender mount. Each is also tucked to the side of the indicator lamp socket to stop it flapping around. Hadnt taken much notice of them before, so keen to see they are correct on mine.
Really 🆒 set up 😊
Hello my Firebird brother well school is in session. #1 the two top plates are call your upper baffles. #3. The bottom one is call your lower baffle .#4 1967 and 1968 Firebird 400 cars also AC cars have them on to keep everything running cool #5 now in 1969 you're a 400 cars and your AC cars also had top and lower baffles funny thing is I have seen original 350 cars non-ac with the Lord baffle I have an original one at my house and it has the lower baffles I also have proven it before with other people having original 69 350 cars no AC and also having the lower baffle it looks like in 1969 they was just trying to get rid of them which 1969 lower baffle will not fit 67 Firebird or a 68 69 Firebird pretty special 1 year only
Excellent explanation of the air flow and issues with keeping the engine cool. We need to find one of the lower deflectors now that we are going with a/c. The car is looking amazing. Excellent job.👍
The carbon fiber looks great but clashes a bit with the black grill and stripes. You might need more to tie it in. I absolutely love the color you chose
You chose a great color 👍
Went and got me one of those, however it took 3 drums to do the whole Firebird.
yeah EDP comes off easy but paint is a different matter... BTW I am sending a package next week.
Yup gotta pursued those tubes in. The wood plug is a great idea!
Dude, that hood looks so good! I love the stripes and carbon fiber with the orange. Seriously looks amazing man, so cool!
Yes you can wash micro fiber cloth. Cold water wash, no heat dry, and do not wash with any other fabrics mixed in.
This is looking so good! Love it.
That color is looking so good in the sun. So cool man.
Looking awesome!
Doing an awesome job man, looking great!
The hood was throwing me off, I was unfamilar with it. A little research told me it's a 69 Trans Am hood. It striking for sure. I can't wait to see you and the car sitting at a local Car show enjoying the day in your new car. It's been a long time coming but your close, so close it's getting very exciting, I'm sure ! Lookin Amazing :)
Ur making me want to sell my Camaro and get a bird 🦅
next one Roger!
@ next life maybe 😬
Cool, looking sweet
I have extra headlight trim screws if you need them brother!!! Thanks for the shout-outs!!
I powdercoat the front and rear lights in super chrome works great and lasts. not hard to do
I wanted to do just that but the super chrome is on back order. But in end, I ended up scrapping the front markers and ordering new ones because the contacts in the sockets were sticking and it was just going to be a pain in the butt moving forward. NEXT!
Looks great brother you did a fantastic job I believe you are ready to build another bird
I went with the fully assemble method. Install the cowl seal when you adjust the hood. It provide some upward push on the back of the hood.
Bumper looks great! Love the 69 front ends. When installing your ls with the harness do you still use your under dash harness also with the original fuse block? Thanks
I used the Painless harness through out. except for the LS3 harness which came from Blueprint Engines. Thank you for watching
Looking bad ass 😍
Maybe ok on a lighter colour..but with a darker colour a wool pad will leave halos ...
