2024 Trek Slash Gen 6 1st Ride Review
Trek completely revamped the Slash. The all new Slash is high pivot and has mixed wheels. Not only that but the geometry is completely new and what's up with that chain guide thing? I had the last generation Slash and many generations before this is a whole new beast. But how does it compare and should you get one?

Finally made it to the Whistler Bike Park this past weekend. It was a great day and I was able to check off a few gnarly moves I had only seen in videos. Warm ups are hard and I wasn’t sure whether to start with jumps or tech. Knowing the bike park would get busy I jumped into A Line and then Dirt Merchant. Dirt Merchant is a bit lesser known than A Line but with less traffic the jumps stay smo...

    Can you give more of comparison to the new altitude?

    • @NICADV
      @NICADV День назад

      I will start with the easy stuff. The Altitude is arguably a "better" value the comparable build is $500 less and has better tires, including CushCore touch points and quite a bit lighter. In the Slash's corner you do get the Vivid Select + with adjustable HBO. On the ride side of things I wouldn't say either have better traction on the descents and the back end of the Altitude gets out of the way just as well as the high pivot. As far as mixed wheels the Slash feels more designed around the mixed wheels. Climbing, the Slash is the more efficient climber but both have a great body position and the Altitude is quieter. Finally the head angle adjustment and reach adjustment is easier to use on the Altitude but the flip chip for the mullet setup is very hard to access. I don't think either bike is clear winner, but they are both great. They have a few other quirks but I think this response is already too long so if you have any specific questions feel free to reach out on Instagram.

    This bike is LIT! Tried for first time @ garda bike festival (ITALY), after a nice tech talks with the staff of Rocky, we hit an ultra bumpy and fast trail who's our test trails for all the bikes we tested. First thing i noticed, the bike is SUPER SILENT, no rattling no sounds nothing! It's also impressive how smooth and "pop" is the bike under fast trails, it's like a dh-mini-bike, but reactive as a trail bike. It also climb very good, but with cush-core inserts it's not its best, better stick to DD tires, with no inserts (personal opinions). Very important info, beside "sag" we diddn't add or remove compression/rebound on shock and fork, this bike is easy to set-up. I'd buy it asap! love RM!

    • @NICADV

    I know a lot of people would recommend the nomad as a good park bike too. How would you compare the nomad vs the chainsaw in enduro mode?

    • @NICADV
      @NICADV 7 дней назад

      I rode the Chainsaw set up "enduro" with 170mm front and rear and mixed wheels which is slightly different than they sell it "Enduro". Overall, I think the Nomad is a great park bike. The Devinci has a slight edge on the straight line and chunky stuff, other than that it also has a bit more flexibility as far as increasing the rear wheel travel. Both bikes love hitting jumps and the mixed wheel setup is very composed on steep rocks and loamers. The Nomad is a bit more well round outside the park as well.

    Did you try Rocky Mountain Instinct 2024 ? Can you say some alternatives to this frame? Last time i was riding almost 90min and love it, then i start searching alternatives, but i cannot find anything what are so "Fit Out of the box" and suit to my predispositions. I try Ns Bike Define, Giant Trance, Calibre Bossnut, Dartmoor Bluebird but the RM Instinct was top.

      I have not yet. My favorite alternatives (in the 120-130 range) are probably the Evil Following for full 29er and the Santa Cruz Nomad for mixed wheel. As far as "Fit out of the box" it's hard to beat those current sale prices on the Commencal's especially if you're looking for an alloy bike.

    • @NICADV
      @NICADV 11 дней назад

      Probably not, but it does depend on the brand. I ride a large in the vast majority of the brands, but some really long bikes I prefer a medium or M/L like Trek offers. My gut tells me you’d get along better with the medium. It will add stability and maybe a touch more playful as you have more room between saddle and bar. The small loses stand over quickly with the 29” wheel and tall front end.

    • @NICADV
      @NICADV 13 дней назад

      It would lose some of the maneuverability. I think the medium would probably be a better fit, especially with the shorter rear end. You may also have to shorten the dropper. I have a 210 OneUp dropper and it is fully slammed, bottomed out on the inside of the seattube. I have a 74cm saddle height center bb to top of saddle.
