Since installing the Ohlins fork I grab it a lot more. I prefer it on bigger days and generally on rides I'm familiar with. It's also more fun on jumps. If I know I'm going to step up to a new feature or ride something I'm not comfortable with then I will bring a bigger bike.
Hey! Any insight into how the Nomad 6 compares to the new Altitude? Currently on a SJEVO with 170 fork + cascade link, and tossing up between those two... I'm 5'11" on a S4, riding in the sea2sky, so a little concerned how the Altitude would do in the tight janky stuff. Thanks!
That is a good question and one I had to answer for myself. I would say they have two slightly different characters. I don't think the Altitude would be too much for the area, the center of gravity is very low and a 27.5 rear wheel helps with the tight. That said the Nomad is more maneuverable and likes to get off the ground more. I think the Altitude wins for all out traction but for me the Nomad's maneuverability and pep made it the winner for me. It's in between the SJEVO and Enduro where the Altitude is more Enduro. I hope that helps, let me know if you have any specific questions.
@@ReedSchmidt-jt9kf They are both great bikes and I would hesitate to recommend either. With that said there is a clear standout for me. On the basic side the Patrol's BB is super low and I was hitting the bash guard/chainring in some very inopportune times. On the more technical side the suspension of the Nomad stays more active under braking so whether you're riding something very steep and need that traction or mobbing a high speed section and don't want the backend skipping around the Nomad is the winner.
It's a great compliment. I no longer have a dirt jump bike so for long rides or steep jumps the 5010 rules. If I had one bike it would be the Nomad as it still climbs and jumps well but can handle the larger features without question. As far as MX wheels for my riding style and terrain, I'm sold. If I was racing enduro there may be a case for even wheels but even then, with the steep terrain I consistently riding the MX wheels just make it more comfortable.
I’m 5’ 11” I would think the large will be fine. The only issue will be what dropper seatpost it comes with. They specify two options for most builds on the website so if it comes with the fox you may have an issue but if it comes with the one up you’ll likely be fine. If it comes with the reverb it’s kinda a toss up.
I still get the question regularly and since it’s one of the big changes figured it was worth mentioning, but I didn’t mention it again in the review 🤷🏻♂️
Where do you find yourself grabbing your 5010 to go out when you have all of these other higher travel bikes to ride?

The internal frame storage! 👍🏻

Thanks, lots of content to come with this bike and others!
Curious as well what you think of the Nomad vs the Patrol. Which is more of an all-rounder, better for bike park / steep trails only, etc.

@@NICADV awesome, thanks!
Nice ride and riding. Great build. At least someone is building a Shimano SC.
Thanks, I was happy to get the Shimano XT
Got some questions for you. How’s it compliment your 5010 within your quiver? How you liking MX vs even wheels?

Sizing question. How tall are you? I’m 5’10” and leaning toward a large.
Looking forward to the full review.

@@NICADV thanks for the quick reply. Thanks for the advice on a dropper.

Looks like you have a crack in your frame on the brake side near the crank?? 😮
I'll take a closer look, but I think it just some grease/dirt coming from the pivot after I spray'd the bike down.
I see you got rid of those galpher rotors. Man, those things were flimsy. You should try the vivid on it, I’m digging it.
I’ve been looking into the Vivid. I put the stock wheels, tires, and rotors on my 5010 I’ll have to see how the Galphers hold up.
Would love a comparison to the Marin Onlyhappy when you get a chance. Thanks!
Onlyhappy?
@@NICADV Nomad?
How much for the Zeb?
