Great vid, Thank you!
@@John_Dollar thank you for watching and your comment!
it would be nice if the guys who made pi star, will put the ability on it, on the next version to do Bluetooth terminal mode, because I do have both the Kenwood d75 and the Icom ID 52 Plus, both of these can do terminal mode through Bluetooth connection,
I am not familiar with how the blue tooth version works.
Okay, it's started out good, but you eventually lost me in the middle😢 sorry im slow. Can you redo another video?Keep your camera still and in focus.Don't switch nothing outside of the camera view because I get lost. And try to keep it a little more simplified than what you did thank you. One more thing and let us know whether you're clicking i control, settings, network, .ext..😂
And say only what you need to say, nothing extra.
I would be happy to assist you personally to get yours up and running over the phone. If you are in the USA, you can call me at 210-687-2591. If not, we can talk internationally for free on Facebook Messenger App.
I tried it for some reason.I can't get it to open up the t.Gif. My next question would be I have the open spot 4.Will that same procedure work with the four as it does the other ones. I'm just wondering if that's why I can't connect. I don't know. I've only had this for like 2 years. I want to. Connect to TGIF.but I just don't know how sorry to bother you.when I click on the switch button.the os4.turns itself off. And I have to hurry to turn it back on to connect. It don't work..I'm lost.
@joecormier6720 it would ne much easier to walk you through it if you called my phone of 210-687-2591. I don't know a number of things you have tried. If you take the time to call me, I can teach you tricks where you can hop back and forth between Brandmeister and TGIF with quick push to talk radio commands for example. Maybe you haven't registered with the TGIF group. Anyway, call me at 210-687-2591.
@k9wlw I am new to HAM and why would you need more than one hotspot?
Hi, thanks for the video. I figured it out with your help. I have open spot4 Pro. Switching that password is critical. I figured out how to do two different profiles, one for BM and one for TGIF. I was worried I would screw up the original way of doing things but so far it seems I can go back-and-forth. I’m now just hanging out in TGIF. Thanks so much. 😊
I am glad it helped. Multiple profiles sure comes in handy for not having to keep changing the server passwords back and forth for Brandmeister and TGIF! I am glad it helped! Thank you for your comments.
After save channel for me, it makes me select a TG. It does not save channel like yours. Any idea why?
Did you find it necessary to get the other antenna? Don’t any testing? What model?
Wow. I’m going to give this a try today. I never fully understood how static would work. 5:00-6:00 roughly was the missing link for me. I have wpsd but I imagine setup will be nearly the same.
I later discovered with that 02 suffix, if I added 02 as a suffix to another hotspot, it would transfer all the static talkgroups to THAT hotspot! In fact, I was able to transfer them to an Openspot hotspot. Later on, I got my static talkgroup list to over 200 talkgroups. Over time I realized some of the groups would pop up with traffic a lot and " hog up" the hotspot. So I would eventually delete the "hogs". It really increased the randomness of new radio traffic, and made for very interesting QSO opportunities. I really loved the command and control of being able to move them from one hotspot to another or I could bring them all down by changing the 2 digit suffix to something else.
@@k9wlwradio309I was able to get this working on my WPSD hotpot and verified it worked. It took a long time to know it was working because all the talkgroups I added were sleepy which was my driver for monitoring several at the same time with a single hotspot. I’m just not interested by the talkgroups that are hogs. My goal was to get just enough groups that I could incorporate my hotspot into my walks. If I have a QSO or two in an hour it would be a perfect balance of enjoying nature and solitude along with my hobby. I’ve realized that the generally geographic nature of Brandmeister talkgroups gets in the way. I think I’m most interested in sub-hobbies within our hobby but the chances of finding other hams in a regional or state group is hit or miss. I did get TGIF working too. It doesn’t have static talkgroup capabilities but the talkgroups seem more random than geographical but not necessarily named in a way to find people who enjoy the same niche within the hobby or simply other hobbies.
Really helpful, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!
Thank you for watching.
Thanks for this Information,
Big Big Help. It's amazing how you figured this out.
Thank you
I use mine as a scanner now
After watching the video, and looking at the screen is appears that some of the settings are contradictory to what was indicated in the previous video. To set promiscuous mode in the previous video you set the Monitor Slot Hold to ON, yet in this video is shows you had it set to off. Also the Digital Monitor in this shows off where in the previous video you indicated it should be set to Double Slot. If the settings shown in this video are programmed, won't this turn promiscuous mode off. 73s to you and thanks for the video. WE9PP😀
The version of software I used in the video, was "virgin software". I used this version of the software to demonstrate how to accomplish how to change the 4 settings to unlock the manual dial hold time to infinite. If I used my most up-to-date settings version of the software, the 4 settings were already changed. Notice in this virgin software setting there are only 2 memory channels. Does that make sense? So you are correct in your premise.
Thank you. Your video was very helpful. 73's.
Can you use this on the. Bridgecom max hotspot. I’m over in Polk county
Absolutely!
I don't really get it. If it's the "manual dial hold time" that decides how long the dialed in TG will override the original TG, then what does the non manual dial "group/person call" setting do?
Very Good Video You help me a lot with your video i have 3 day search to find a good directions
Glad I could help
I am glad I could help!
This is a great video. Is there a way, using the method in this video, to cross mode from DSTAR to NXDN?
@@robertaucoin3860 yes there is. In the URCALL field of the radio, Type NX followed by the NXDN reflector number. For example NX1200 will link you to NXDN reflector 1200. Once linked, dial up Use Reflector CQCQCQ to talk. I demonstrate this toward the take end of this video.
@@k9wlwradio309 Thanks very much!
Can something like this be done with a Baofeng uv-17r Plus? I know probably a dumb question.
Thanks for this, as someone else pointed out still very useful :)
Thank you!
Thank you very much, that makes it a lot more manageable. PD0MJV, 73
Thank you for your comment. Go to my next video to unlock the "manual dial" feature. It allows you to manually dial ANY random talkgroup so you can transmit ANY random talkgroup on the radio. This along with the promiscuous mode gives you unlimited talkgroups on receive and transmit on any 1 channel. No more repetitive codeplugs needed!
been looking for this for a very long time. i assume it will be all the same for my ft5d..... Plese advise on how to create the actuall folders on the radio, your video shows how to add groups to folders.
@@MrRicksho the folders should be already in the radio. When you search for a talkgroup or reflector you tap on the appropriate reflector or talkgroup on the screen and it should show an "add" button on screen. Press the add button and tbe 5 folders should pop up. Carefully press the folder you want it in and it should drop in there. The folders pop up whether they are named already or not.
@@MrRicksho once in the talkgroup always remember to press the PTT button an release to dynamically activate the talkgroup before making a call. Unlike reflectors DMR talkgroups always need a quick PTT and release to activate your dynamic talkgroup. As you monitor the talkgroup it may suddenly go silent after 10-15 minutes of monitoring. A quick PTT and release will reactivate the group. On many hotspots the dynamic talkgroups may time out if you don't transmit at least once every 10-15 minutes. That is a Brandmeister thing. TG 91 is a good place to monitor since it is busy round the clock. That way you can get a feel how your hotspot timeout comes in to play. If 91 goes silent you know you have timed out. If you are lucky, your hotspot might not ever time out. If it doesn't one key in and monitor indefinitely.
@k9wlwradio309 yes I am aware of the ptt to activate. Been using Droidstar, and it's the same. But I decided to upgrade and use my Radio,.
@@k9wlwradio309 hi again. i am having a few issues setting up my ft5d radio for configuring to my duplex repeater. am not too sure if i have to setup the two frequencies. and also when i hit the wires X on radio, i dont see the same screen as yours. can u assist with some pointers or setup pointers

Hi, I am new to YSF and I am bit confused my the YSF2DMR functionality. Why would one want to use the crossmode option if pi-star website display reflectors that basically match TG in DMR? Why not just stay in YSF?

BUY A TRIPOD!!!!
Hi, I watched your video and saw you doing the procedure to listen to NXDN on DMR, but could you help me do the opposite? I have an NXDN radio and would like to listen to DMR through the hotspot. 73 de PY2XO.
Unfortunately the pi-star software does not provide any crossmoding options for an NXDN radio. All you can do with an NXDN radio is NXDN. You would have to get either a DMR radio, or a C4FM Yaesu radio to do any crossmoding.
Thanks for sharing this video and information. 73 Steve de AA4SH

Thank you!
Good afternoon, if the group number contains more than 5 characters, TG 208019, how do I connect to it? No more than 5 characters can be specified in FT5d! How do I connect to a room if it consists of 6 digits?
In the YSF configuration where I type the 4000, type in the 6 digit talkgroup number. Hit apply changes. Then hit your push to talk on the radio and release. You should be in the 6 digit talkgroup. After you are done, type in the 4000 and hit apply changes. Then hit your push to talk and release. You should hear the Brandmeister announcement saying "not linked". You cannot use Wires-X commands to select 6 digit talkgroups.
Thanks!
I hope it helped!

I just Oder the D75!
It is a fantastic radio!
5:17 that's FRS right there.
Very helpful, clearly informative, thanks.
This is fantastic. I’ve been trying to figure out how to do Gateway CQ for over a year. This is the only place that addressed how to do it with a Pi-Star. Again Thanks!
I've entered a d-star repeater in the repeater list. I hav eNO IDEA HOW TO RECALL IT TO MEMORY TO USE IT? I'm very confused and aggravated.
You have to know which folder you entered the repeater into and scroll through that folder from top to bottom. The pre loaded repeaters in the Kenwood in the USA are in North America, USA and further broken down by USA call zone 0 through 9. If you dropped in a random folder, you would have to scroll through the over 1000 repeaters to randomly find it. You could re renter it a second time and just be careful to remember which folder you place it in so it is much easier to narrow down your search parameter.
Can you switch back and forth between Branmeister, and TGIF
The best way to switch back and forth between TGIF and Brandmeister is to set up an individual profile for Brandmeister access complete with the Brandmeister hotspot password. Then setup another profile for TGIF access comple t e with the TGIF hotspot password. Then you can just hop between profiles. For example, if you put Brandmeister in profile 1 and TGIF in profile 2. You can hop beck and forth by keying up a quick Private call 9001 to jump to profile 1, and keying up a quick private call 9002 to jump to profile 2. You can easily hop back and forth with quick keying the radio.
Man I’ve been looking on how to save bm talk groups for a minute now this helped me a lot thank you!
how about disconnecting from other modes (ysf, nxdn, fcs). is there a disconnect command just to disconnect from all other modes without having to connect back to a dstar reflector first and then doing a …….U command to get your radio back to a regular “unconnected to any mode” status?
In the context of this video, all the commands to link and unlink the hotspot are directed from a DStar radio. You do NOT have to first link to a DStar reflector. You can jump from unlinked and directly hop to a YSF, or NXDN reflector with the appropriate link commands keyed into the DStar radio. The DMR network adds an additional layer of commands to first connect to a Brandmeister server, and then key up a dynamic talkgroup. If you are using a Fusion radio as the control radio the unlink command is to press and hold the Band button on your handheld and if a Fusion mobile I believe you just press and hold the * key on the mobile microphone. Linking with a fusion radio is tricky, because you can only hop in and around one network at a time. You cannot directly hop from DStar to Fusion and back. There are no special Wires X or DTMF codes utilized by the Openspot that trigger the Fusion radio to direct the Openspot from one network to another. As far as the DMR radio goes, it does NOT have an unlink command. A hotspot remains connected to za Brandmeister server even after you group call 4000 a Brandmeister talkgroup. After unlinking from a talkgroup you can still receive Private Calls on Brandmeister. Also there are no DMR commands that trigger the Openspot from one network to another. So in the case if the Fusion or DMR radio, you can only hop around a single network at a time. To go to another network you have to either use the Openspot dashboard OR you must hop to another Openspot profile that has been pre setup to connect to another network. I hope that answers your question. In summary ONLY the DStar radio can hop in and out of all networks with the appropriate URCALL commands keyed up in the radio, and it can do it all without having to leave an Openspot profile.
@@k9wlwradio309 i understand completely the context of this video and am also using an id-52… im simply asking.. in your dmr example.. you showed comand 4000 to “disconnect” from a dmr talk group and we all know …….U to disconnect from a dstar reflector. what you did not show… was any other commands to disconnect from a YSF, FCS, or NXDN reflectors/talkgroups… you simply went from one of those talk groups back to a dstar reflector and then disconnected to return your radio to a “disconnected from any reflector/talkgroup” state. I guess my specific questions which zI should have clarified better is.. Are there commands to disconnect from the other modes besides dstar and dmr… specifically FCS, YSF, snd NXDN….
@@ertonyrn I think I understand your question now. The standard DStar Unlink Reflector command (^^^^^^U) also works to unlink from any YSF, FCS, NXDN or Brandmeister server.
