All of the youtube Ham radio (so called experts) could learn a lot from you ! Sure their camera work is better but, it is REALLY about UNDERSTANDING! You explain simple and to the point as well as showing step by step. THANKS FOR A GREAT VIDEO !!!!!
Thank you Stephen. I appreciate the compliment. The world of hotspots is detailed and it is step by step with plenty of "vague" concepts that need clarification for it to he understood by one and all. The purpose of the videos is to help and allow radio operators to learn new knowledge. Someday I hope to afford actual cameras. Unlike other hams, I do NOT monetize my channel. You will notice there are zero commercial interruptions in my videos. Just the one RUclips throws at the very beginning for their pocket. Thank you for watching.
I’m waiting for my openspot 4 pro to ship and your videos are THE best and most informative I’ve found for cross mode and simplified operation and setup. I would love for one of the HAM RUclipsrs to get you on a professional camera setup to really get your How To stuff out to the masses. Thank you so much for your sharing your knowledge! -73 KL5IO
Thank you, David. I am sure you will enjoy your Openspot 4 Pro. It will still do the same crossmoding the Openspot 3 does and with the same features. I particularly love how easy they are to use mobiling or even pedestrian, like at hamfests. When I travel, I run my Openspot 2 and Openspot 3. I just received my Icom ID- 52 and can listen to one Openspot on the A band, while I listen to the other Openspot on the B band simultaneously on different networks! I am sure you will have much enjoyment! Thanks for watching and your comments.
@@k9wlwradio309 my ID-52 gets delivered today! Don’t tell my wife what it cost 🤣 although it’s still less than a plug and play skybridge plus and is more capable imho
@@Bombguy83 If you have another Pi-star hotsot, make sure you use your RPT1 callsign with the B in the eighth character. Even though the Openspot states you get set a regular DStar simplex channel with no RPT1 and no RPT2 callsign, I recommend you use the RPT1 callsign with a C or D module on your Openspot. I use K9WLW C for my Openspot 3 and K9WLW D for my Openspot 2. I of course use K9WLW B for my pi-star. Putting a DR memory in the radio that way allows you to use Gateway CQ with the Openspot which allows you to link your Openspot up to individual DStar repeaters with Gateway CQ. I will search for my video demonsrating this and post below shortly.
thanks for sharing info - one thing I did not understand at first try - was that your options did not match mine - fx setting up multi wifis, at home and in car - I ha only one to select - but it all worked when I noticed the lower right corner - you have to mark the "advanced options" first.. 73 de OZ6JO
FYI: I just bought an Openspot 3 and wanted to pass along to all that the price of $299 plus $26 DHL shipping is in EURO’s! Actual cost in US dollars is $386.62! I didn’t realize this until I got the bill. Just wanted to clarify the actual price in case someone else doesn’t notice the €.
Hi Im trying to setup the openspot 4 to my home wifi and my phones hotspot ive set the wireless setting SSID #1 to my home and SSID #2 to my phones hotspot saved both but in the current configuratio it shows DNS SERVER #1 as set but the DNS SERVER #2 as not set any help would be great
I need to figure out what BSSID does. I would like to connect to my work Wi-Fi but the SSID is one command and each employee has their own login with username and password. Not sure if it can do that.
That sounds tricky with an Openspot. I am not sure that type of setup will work for a Wi-Fi connection on the Openspot, however if you CAN connect your cellphone to the work network, you can SIMULTANEOUSLY turn on the phones hotspot feature to indirectly connect the Openspot through the cellphone to the work network. Does that make sense?
I have worked at least 25 hours, tried factory reset, tried a firmare update. When I try to connect on the computer it sends me to msn. Why recommend such a difficult hotspot to setup. I have set up pi-star on many different modes it works. What can I do to not go bald from pulling my hair out.
I am having trouble setting up my mobile wifi. I have watched this video many times. After you set up your home, you do not show how to set up #1. What is ohvaintx, and where can I find Key #1? As you can tell, I am very new at this:)
If you are already connected to a server, you can already QSO if you set the radio to Use Reflector CQCQCQ. Ifyou are still in Link to Reflector, you will not be heard, it will merely reconnect over and over to the same server if the radio is in link to Reflector mode.

Ouch! Almost makes me the value of the US dollar is collapsing!
I purchased mine a little over a month ago and it was just over $300 and that would include the $26 DHL. Wow, the $$ value is plummeting!
Outstanding! Thank you. 73 DE KJ4MZ SK

ohvaintx is the name on my mobile Wi-Fi. Can you reach me on Facebook Messenger? I would be happy to walk you through it.
If you email me at cq2meters@yahoo.com I can exchange phone numbers.
I have a Kenwood D74 once connected to the server or reflector do I have to select the group or can I QSO (waiting my turn of course)

The beginning is boring and the whole thing is in portrait mode. Can't watch on my tv.
