On the DTMF tones, the FT-3d if you go to "signalling" go to No.4 "DTMF Mode" change to Auto. Then go to "DTMF Memory" and enter your DTMF codes and store them so then all you have to do is hit PTT, DTMF and press 1, 2, 3 etc and this will recall your memory so you don't have to enter the commands manually each time, this is very handy for switching profiles. Haven't managed to use it for changing Channels, TG etc yet, still learning all this.
Looks like yaesu is coming up light. I would love an ft70dr. but as pointed out here the Icom and 878 are the radios to have, but the ID51a+ is no longer available.
DMR is fine if you like to spend weeks perfecting a codeplug and if something goes wrong it can take forever to figure it out again. With the FT-3d I just program in repeater/hotspot and hit wires-x and I'm in, simple as it should be. I can crossmode to D-Star and DMR easily with the DTMF tones, I haven't yet figured out how to change talk groups reflectors etc but the openspot 3 remembers the last TG/reflector etc for each mode so for instance in D-Star I usually use REF 30C so when I go back from Wires-x back to D-Star it automatically goes to REF 30C. On DMR I'm usually on TG91 so when I change the profile to DMR it automatically goes back to TG 91. Currently the only way I know how to change rooms/reflectors while crossmoding is to do it directly on the OS3.
I wasn't sure where to put this question. However, you always have great videos that explain everything. I have a question about the Yaesu FT5. However, I think that they same answer to my question would apply to the FT3. So, I have 2 questions. First question.. Once I log into Wires-X, I know how to link to a reflector (room). However, when I follow the procedures to store the reflector into one of the five categories, sometimes the room is stored, sometimes it is not. It always appears in the listing of the menus-->WiresX--remove room/node. However, in fact, it is not stored in the area where I originally added it. second question. Is there a way to link to a fusion room without logging into WiresX. I know that I can do it with my hotspot (opensport4), but I am wondering if there is some way to switch reflectors from the radio. Whatever guidance you can provide is appreciated.
Are the problem Reflectors by chance FCS Reflectors? As for an alternate radio method. I believe keying up and DTMF commands work, but you cannot hop from FCS to YSF r vice versa. Openspot treats them as separate connectors. FCS Reflectors are far too numerous to work with Wires-X commands. This video was recorded back when therefore only 5 FCS Reflectors with 100 modules. Nowadays there are dozens. Both pi-star and Openspot cannot seem to get Wires-X commands to work properly for FCS Reflectors.
@@k9wlwradio309 thank you very much for the follow up. As far as I know, the reflectors are YSF. I found them in listings of YSF reflectors. I will try what you suggest about using DTMF tones
Ok this is weird, before I used to use DTMF tones saved on the FT-3d to enter the different profiles, now when I hit wires-x - "all" I get a list OS2-P1-Fusion OS2-P2-Brandmeis OS2-P3 D-Star OS2-P4 Default OS2-P5 Default All this is exactly as I have it listed in the Openspot 3 so this must be pulling this info from the OS3. When I selected P2 Brandmeis it went to DMR TG 91 which is the last DMR TG I was on. Then when I search a list of rooms it comes up like this 0-0-0-0-0-USA 0-0-0-0-Riots 0-0-0-covid19 0-0-All-veterans Eventually down the list I find 001--cq-uk so I select that, and it changes back to Fusion/Wires-x So why when in Brandmeister does it pull down a list of Wires-X rooms ? This would be really cool if we could select DMR TG from this list or D_Star reflectors etc. But, when I click wires-x and click "all" it still lists the OS3 profiles first so I can easily switch between profiles, this is cool but I wish Shark RF would add pulling down the TG list or being able to search and store like you can Wires-X rooms because no matter what profile I'm in it always shows Wires-X rooms.
I watched another video, so now that I discovered that the OS3 profiles show up under "all" in wires-x on the FT-3d I no longer need the DTMF for profile change so what I do now is use the DTMF to change Brandmeister TG, for instance, on DTMF memory 1 is set to TG 2722 which is Ireland Call, DFMF 2 is set to 2723 which is Ireland Chat and so on. This gets me out of a jam but the OS3 does not announce "connected to 2722" which is a pain because I have to remember that DTMF memory 1 is TG 2722 etc but it means I can quick change TG on the fly without having to manually enter the DTMF. It would be nice if you could store the TG in the Wires-X memory under C1, C2 etc. Same for D-Star.
DMR is a lot different, you actually link to a DMR server first. Once that is done, jumping from talkgroup to talkgroup is a matter of keying up a new talkgroup from a DMR radio. Unfortunately Fusion radios are not designed to key up individual talkgroups. Have you tried the Quick Call feature on the Openspot dashboard? It is very effective in flying very quickly from talkgroup to talkgroup when you are crossmoding. If you are using a cell phone browser, it is on the tools page. If you are on a windows browser it is a button labeled quick call in the right hand column of the dashboard!
I don't really have a good solution for you. I tried all the possible DTMF configurations and it does not work with the FT3D. What I have ended up doing is setting up OPS3 profiles: 1) KenwoodTHD74 - DStar; 2) FT3D - YSF, 3) FT3D - DStar. I can change the OSP3 profile from the radio. Then once I am in FT3D - YSF the Wires-X button works as advertised. In FT3D - Dstar as you showed it is possible to search for REF reflectors, and then pushing one will change servers. So it is possible to do C4FM room changes, mode changes and associated reflector changes all from the radio. Of course it takes a fair number of button pushes to do it. I can switch to the FT3D (either YSF or DStar) from the THD74, and to the THD74 from the FT3D. For my uses this works since I only use REF that are module C so I don't need to switch between other modules. The Kenwood THD74 is vastly superior in the ease of manipulating the OPS3 as you demonstrated. It's sad it is being discontinued. Which brings me to thanking you for your videos. Thanks very much. Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, there are some limitations with the wires x button in crossmoding. Being unable to pick DStar Reflector modules is clearly a hindrance. Trying to control other networks from a radio not designed for the other network is a problem. DStar URCALL commands seem to be the best. I give 2nd place to a DMR radio like the Anytone 878 if it is setup properly with Promiscuous mode (aka digital monitor) and the manual dial feature is opened up on the radio. On the DMR radio I definitely have to switch profiles as well. Only the DStar radio seems to smoothly transition from one network to the next smoothly inside one profile. The C4FM radio and the Wires X button, is good in some ways, and not so good in others. Unfortunately I rank its crossmoding functionality in 3rd place, behind the DStar radio and the DMR radio.
This sucks. same equipment here. DTMF codes got me kicked from BM1 for 24 hours. Wires -x button is only for fusion modes. I bought this combo because there are YT videos showing FT2/3 changing BM TG’s with wires-x. Obviously something has changed. I can’t even see the TG room names, it just shows connected to America BM.

DMR talkgroups cannot be found because they are not IP addresses like reflectors are on Fusion, DStar, P25, and NXDN.
