Acemagic X1 Dual Screen Laptop 1255U 16GB RAM 1TB SSD External
TLDW; Excellent execution of dual screen functionality, it is a niche solution but works for my workflow of 3D modeling and projects. If Acemagic release an update or new design, they mainly need to improve the software like fan noise and allowing the full performance of the 1255U to shine. More USB ports or a AMD Ryzen CPU like an 8840U or HX370 would be very exciting for a machine like this. It's not perfect but a good first attempt at a dual screen laptop without cumbersome clip on or sliding secondary screen.

The SER8 8745HS is still a very quiet and well worth the $100 (17%) price cut from the SER8 8845HS $600 typical price. Just taking a look inside the Geekom Mini Air 11 which was sold with a N5095 or N5105 processor. This is the cheaper N5095 variant with 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD. The insides are probably pretty similar to the Mini Air 12 N100. It's not the cheapest mini pc but the cooling is above average. I'm just messing around with it to retire the mini from my lab to be a glorified slideshow player on a TV.

Just changing the bios did not make any appreciable performance change and UXTU helped situationally for different applications. Still not as good as ...

9:10 what do you mean of "it will make interference"? And do i really need to swap the ssd for a Egpu?, and do i really need the Egpu connection the bottom nvme, or just the top nvme slot? Becoase i really wanna add a Egpu
@LeoCs-g5f the m.2 ribbon cable is an exposed and unshielded cable that is farther from the CPU than the first m.2 cable. Signal stability of the second m.2 port will be weaker than the first m.2 port directly on the mainboard. The Beelink SER7 and SER6 Max ran into a similar issue where the second m.2 port that was not on the mainboard could not support a reliable eGPU connection. You can try to connect an eGPU to the m.2 ribbon cable inspite of my warning but it just might not work with an eGPU.
@@Power3DDesign ok, tx for the reply :) I guess ill find an other way, (btw i haven't purchased it yet)
If I were to install a second ssd in the free slot, do I install it over the wifi card?
Thanks for the teardown. I'm seriously considering the ser9 but I would remove the speakers and mic cable for sure. I'd really rather not pay for them just to throw them away. I like the LPDDR5 ram. It's faster, lower-power, lower latency, and better signal integrity than SODIMM. I would like to see Beelink incorporate the ram into their cooling scheme.
The B series are totally incompatible crap. I wanted to exchange my wifi on the Legion Slim 7 from 2023 to the BE202 and it dind't work either. What is the sense of a standard interface(m2 pcie) but not working on one year old devices.
Yeah, these new wifi 7 wireless cards could really use a wider range of support. Hopefully intel gets their act together.
Does it throttle down heavily from heat?
@watdahel good question and that is something I will be sure to test a lot! Follow up video will cover temps and performance.
Thanks, i have seen the AceMagic X1 Dual Screen on Facebook, but i didn t know where the Intel 1255H was standing compared to AMD, More or less than a 5700U that i have experience with in the past??? i had no idea......now i know. I would have thought that 3DMark CPU score would benefit to the 1255U because of its faster single core results, but as you said for some reason the 1255U has been power limited, so technically it could have done better, maybe Acemagic was willing to address heat issue regarding potential consumer review or complains and took no risk by limiting the chip power to deliver a Cool temp product. I am only trying to guess here, i may totally be stupid though , but yes low temps should go along low fan noise which is not the case, maybe Bios tweaking or FanControl App could allow you to set your own fan curve.
i'm noticing coilwhine when i am putting heavy load on the igpu... it's not too bad, but definitely noticable.. happens for instance when i run the webgl aquarium stress test, and also when i am running LLM's like llama 3.2 anyone else experiencing this? the manufacturer just recommended that I tweak the vram settings or try lubricating the fan
@@anthonyrussano does it happen when running 3DMark Demo Timespy, Firestrike, or Nightraid?
that power supply is HUGE i wouldnt buy it with that, GaN replacement immediately , 6 amps ? 120 Watts ? really ? and its as big as my 2004 Asus ROG gaming laptop power supply ? i have a car chager that can do 140 watt at 12 volt now ..... the future is now old man ! One usb C , this things old , hard pass would not buy. they should allow a USB C charger in port and add way way more usb c PD ports , WHAT IS THAT SCREWDRIVER , ive seen it , i want one ...
@spydergto1 I am just as surprised how large the power supply is. It is not the biggest and I have a 2016 laptop power supply more than twice the size but I have also seen smaller power supplies. I'll see if I can compare with some smaller power supply to help. Keep in mind this is an i9-12900H. It can certainly use over 100W under full load if allowed to do so. The thing about car chargers is that they don't have an inverter and are just stepping 12V up to 19V or down to 5V or something inbetween. Also, the 140W advertisement is typically for short amounts of time and with air flow. The conversion of 110V or 220V to 19V for sustained power for hours of work does have to be larger than a simple buck converter. As for USB C, having at least a second usb c port would be nice but I will have to test it out. I hardly use usb c beyond charging my phone or connecting to another display. Other people might be different.
i'm running the latest bios... and i am unable to successfully overclock the ram, cpu, and igpu, and voltage without locking up the system... so far the only change i could make successfully was dedicating more ram to the gpu :/
@anthonyrussano Video guide for overclocking the SER9 starts at 5:15 of techtablet's video: ruclips.net/video/0Pie81pdZjs/видео.htmlsi=uErMv0uuOlGGKqXQ I'll check later to see if I can identify my bios version if that might be the issue. I have one of the earlier versions and I hope Beelink didn't lock things down. Otherwise it might be just some bad luck with binning. It's a small 2-4% performance difference and increasing the dedicated RAM helps the most with RAM hungry games. BRB!
Thanks you Daniel, i am also surprised by the size of this Mini PC, the Design with Acrylic paint gives the Mini PC a classy look, i am glad that Mini PC Brands are now concidering the Aesthetic more than in the past, it is definitely a good sale argument. I also like that the Feet are not glued but fixed as screws, i am a bit disapointed by the small 70mm fan i wish they went for at least for a 110mm as room space is not an issue, i don t know why they have added a second layer of plastic panel to access the wifi and the rest of the board (Maybe dust protection), it is not something that i haven t seen on other model though I have also noticed that the lid has a similar design than the GMKtec K8 PLUS and M7 with gaps and this is a positive point in my opinion for the cooling design. Thanks you for the detailed unboxing description, Unboxing is a Magic moment, and is giving this Christmas kid excitement while unpacking Santa gifts
Thanks Ghost! I am very happy to read that and great break down of the details of the machine. You are right there are similarities with GMKtec's K8 Plus and M7 cooling vents I did not notice. That's perhaps a good sign for the cooling performance. I am pretty excited to test this machine out and learn more about how it performs and what secrets are inside.
@ 😀, I am looking forward the episode 2 of this model.
I am guessing you don't know the history of the AceMagic brand. Maybe do a basic search so you don't miss something massive like a history of multiple pc's being sent out with viruses during this present year. I know. I bought one before it was known. And that isn't a standard VESA mount.
Thanks for the check and watching the video! That's something I am trying to update other users on by getting one of these units. I figure there are a lot of people out there that don't know what they are buying to the extent they cannot identify the model name or much else about a mini PC. I'll add it to my to do list to make something more dedicated to that controversy if it's interesting to learn more about. What model did you buy and did you find redline on it? Right about the vesa mount, I could call it a half vesa mount unless you have a suggestion for a better term. It looks sufficient for the job if secured properly but definitely a cost cutting measure I could test out.
what key do you hit to enter the bios
@anthonyrussano rapidly press the delete key as the computer turns on or restarts like you're in a fighting game. If you see the windows logo or logo of your OS, the opportunity to enter the bios will have been missed. Make sure your keyboard is wired or uses a usb wireless connector. Bluetooth will not work.
@@Power3DDesign thanks bro. you are very cool for responding to my questions... would you be able to maybe do a video about how to update the firmware on these ser9 devices?
@anthonyrussano happy to help, I will check with Beelink if there is an updated BIOS for me to update. To be perfectly honest, the performance of my unit is already a couple percent above techtablet and a couple other reviewers, there is a chance updating the BIOS could reduce performance or even brick the machine. Still, it could be a good excercise. The whole putting the bios file on a usb drive can be very confusing the first time doing it.
what''s the rubber tab for on the bottom?
@@anthonyrussano it's a pull tab to help remove the bottom cover after unscrewing the 4 screws without any type of prytool.
Wow, I must say I'm less keen to upgrade the RAM on my GTi14 now.
@johnpeters4214 Understandable, It is cool Beelink packed so much inside the machine but they could have made it much simpler to access the RAM.
Wondering if they did the thermal paste liquid metal because the GTI's sit on their side and they worried straight liquid metal would just run off or something. Only thing I can think of.
They should keep the power supply external so its heat output is not introduced to the rest of the system.
u r aces! needed to see inside..thanks.
Great Video. Do you have a video on adding a second PCIe 4.0 drive, and what all is involved? It would be great to see this type of video about how to add the secondary drive. Thank you.
Hi. To get to the thermal paste is it just lifting up the vapor chamber? Didn't see any screws there. Thanks, nice video.
@RETROARCADEBLAST hi, it will be messy getting to the thermal paste because there are 7 screws holding the copper vapor chamber to the mainboard and CPU. 3 screws around the edges and 4 screws around the CPU. The CPU thermal interface is likely a mix of paste and liquid metal.
These stats really help - thanks for doing this
I want the built in power supply and fingerprint reader of the GTi14 but with a powerful AMD chipset.
What differences happen within the OS when you boot up and the Speaker/Mic modules are disconnected?
Great video thanks. I noticed that the M2 riser says PCI3.0 x4 whereas the drive is a G4 x4 which is a shame as will presumably be limited in performance. At least in the UK, the specs (Dec '24) claim that they are PCI4.0 x4 slots though I haven't checked mine yet.
@@AndyRawlinsUK hi, I ran a crystal diskmark speed test and got speeds of 5000-6000. I'm not sure why there is a pcie 3 x4 sticker on the one m.2 slot other than maybe the techs put the same sticker from the EQ13 on the m.2 port. The riser didn't say PCI3.0 x4 and says PC19-40P.

Can you make a video when your beelink pc starts having issues?
@edgarenrique8464 sure, I'll make more than a few videos about problems when they arise and how I try to solve them. Just like with the Beelink GTi14 Ultra when I was diagnosing the thermal throttling issue. So far the SER8 design hasn't given me any trouble.

Thank you, Daniel! Good job, as usual! Keep on!
@@DemenkovK thank you so much!
look into the One Dock v2. It does both oculink and thunderbolt and fits the RTX 4060LP perfectly. It doesn't have a built in power supply but you can get a compact 240W power brick. You also have the option of connecting an ATX/SFF PSU to it but those are less compact and more cumbersome to use
@FS-zt6tm thanks for the advice! I wish it wasn't so expensive, I see the price is around $250-300 USD for me. The Aoostar AG02 for example is selling for $220 with a 500W PSU. I do really like the aesthetics of the onedock v2. I really need to get myself an oculink mini pc someday soon lol

that's cool. also lizards are cool. do the local llm's use the NPU on the 8845 version of the SER8?
Is it running the same bios version as the 8845hs? is fan control from bios still broken? is there a way to enable secureboot? o.o
I literally just bought this machine a couple of days ago. It'll be interesting to see how well it does with my DAW..
Thanks for the video and google docs, there's also different max turbo between these about 200 (5.1 vs 4.9)
@fleoqa193 excellent point I missed that and it would explain the 0-4% less performance from the 8745HS
Thanks very much for this break down and comparison! Which one out of the 2 would be the quieter machine? Cheers
@MoonyCrypto happy to help, sorry I got to this late. The noise between the two SER8 machines is so close that I can't tell a difference. Technically because the 8845HS has better performance and lower temperatures, it can be the quieter mini pc but the difference is so small I don't believe it makes a practical difference. The 8745HS is better value for most people.
Brilliant thanks for getting back to me!
Спасибо, хороший обзор.
Isn't this PC the 45W model? As far as I know it's the R7 7735HS which is 54W. And comparing it to other Beelink models, do you have this model? Thanks.
Awesome video. I'm loving my ser9 but am in a dusty environment and was wondering how hard it was to tear down! Thank you so much. Bookmarked and subscribed to all. What temps do you see under load at 54W and 65W?
@FoundationOfFamilies I am very happy this helps! Thank you very much! The highest CPU tempersture I saw at 54W (according to CPU-Z this was the out of the box TDP) was in a Cinebench R23 Multithread test. It reached a peak of 80.4C and averaged 75C. The CPU was not close to thermal throttling at all. At 80W I saw the CPU average increase to 86C and peak to 90.2C. For a 5.7% performance improvement, the CPU thermal throttled. A 65W TDP will probably be somewhere between the 54W and 80W performance. I doubt 65W will thermal throttle but you won't see more than single digit percentage improvements. For the iGPU in gaming, it is a case where the 54W TDP in 3DMark reached a peak of 66.8C and 80W reached a peak of 75.4C. iGPU performance increased about 3-5% with no thermal throttling for short tests but the 80W TDP can thermal throttle for longer game sessions.
@@Power3DDesign Thanks for the #'s. Thats about what I saw was a bit a throttling at 65W under a max load and when I reduced it to 54W the performance drop seems negligible, but temps were very good. It really seems they heavily optimized this system right from the get-go.

As far as I know the Beelink SER8 has a bad WiFi performance. What would be the best Wifi 6.5E and 7 a socket M.2 card? I know they don't all work properly with AMD cpu. Can you measure the size of the spacing of the holes underneath, as I would like to buy this MiniPC and attach using these holes behind the monitor as a VESA.

Thanks bro!!!! It really helpful for me omg..
Can you extend the tests with TDP 70w? Has the processor clock actually been lowered to 4.9GHz? If so, is there a noticeable difference or has AMD improved anything?
