Geekom Mini Air 11 N5095

Just taking a look inside the Geekom Mini Air 11 which was sold with a N5095 or N5105 processor. This is the cheaper N5095 variant with 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD. The insides are probably pretty similar to the Mini Air 12 N100. It's not the cheapest mini pc but the cooling is above average. I'm just messing around with it to retire the mini from my lab to be a glorified slideshow player on a TV.

Beelink EQR6 6900HX 54W and 70W TDP and PSU mod cable for a larger PSU

Basically I did this mod to replace the custom 85W power supply limiting me to 35W with a 100W or generic 5.5x2.5mm DC plug so I could connect a variety of PSU. TLDW: SER9 has some useful CPU multi and iGPU performance improvements over the SER8 and GTi14 Ultra and this is good for people chasing the absolute highest performance in an ultra small mini pc. But it's not a total improvement where temperatures and features don't entirely justify the SER9's very high cost. People that bought the SER8 or zen 4 mini pc months before do not...

      @thetheoryguy5544 it might surprise you the SER8 has a larger footprint and smaller volume than the mac mini M4. The mac mini M4 measures 127x127x50mm or 0.81L and the SER8 is 135x135x44mm or 0.80L. It's an aesthetically pleasing design for half a year earlier than the mac mini M4. Maybe not everyone's jam but it seems to do a pretty good job staying cool. Plus, it's nice to have USB A and an easy to reach power button. Pretty good result since the SER8 launched several months earlier than the mac mini M4.

    This is actually a crazy deal for the performance you get! It actually is comparable to the M2 macs. I think more in Europe. Because the mac mini is 720 euros here and the Ser8 is 485 euros. The M4 is about 30% faster than the M2 and also round about that from the ser8. But the ser8 has 4x the storage and 2x the ram!

    • @Power3DDesign
      @Power3DDesign 2 дня назад

      That's a pretty big difference to the mac mini. The extra RAM and storage are pretty useful to me in mini pc like the SER8 and will go a long way in keeping the mini pc useful years longer than an equivalent mac mini.

    Thanks for the review mate. I've also been wondering what use is the NPU really for locally other than knowing it's just sitting there lol. By the time there is a good use case for the NPUs locally in the nearest future (not talking about the current copilot bullshyte), the whole mini-PC would have become outdated and most people will just buy the latest one with the greatest NPU. If the price difference between 8845HS and 8745HS is steep, I think the 8745HS will be the better deal for now.

      @Power3DDesign 10 дней назад

      @frieza9964 hi what brand and model pc do you have? Different computers have different error beeps so this could mean something like a CPU or RAM or some other issue. Maybe start with the RAM and if you have two or more RAM modules installed, uninstall them all and insert only one module and see if your computer can post. If this does not work, try a different RAM module. Depending on the brand, they might still offer warranty or technical support.

    Thanks for this insight and the work that you’ve put in. I must admit that, despite it being available on a prime deal, it is quite disappointing. Beelink should have stated the TDP is limited to 35W with the included power supply. But it does run very quiet and is pleasant to work with. But you can’t help in the back of your mind that the included Ryzen 9 has been crippled. This is not a stop-gap device if you’re waiting for the SER 8 or SER 9 to go cheaper.

      Happy to help and very well said 👏 The EQR6 is very quiet and pleasant. Had Beelink been more upfront, I would be much more happy. The cheaper r5 and and EQi12 i3 1220P seem like much better deals since they are much less power limited and just as quiet for less cost.

    subbed and upvoted. What happens when these bespoke blower fans break 3 years down the line on these mini PC's? I can see where things could become a pain. Not particular to this PC, but certainly applies. I did a quick check of those fan labels shown at 27:04 to find replacements and came up dry, in fact.

    • @Power3DDesign
      @Power3DDesign 11 дней назад

      Thank you very much! If I search "Beelink 10512 fan" at least in the USA I see a sales link from lindaparts and I suspect Beelink can also sell spare fans if you visit their contact us page for accessories. If you work in an extremely dusty environment or have pets, it might be good to buy a spare fan ahead of time. I have had smaller and faster spinning fans last over a decade so long as they were kept clean and it helps that larger fans do not run as hard as smaller fans which reduces wear. The dust filter should help with cleaning. It is good to be prepared anything can still break, if the fan cannot be revived with greasing the bearing and no replacement fan can be found, then a new fan needs to be modded to the mini pc. I will see if I have the time to make a new 3D printable case and fan mount for the SER8/SER9. Because the fan is 12V, we can use pc case fans by splicing the fan connector.

      @Audi1Pete haha, nah but I can see I wasn't clear. I am trying to show how to install a replacement power supply for the EQR6 and how to get the EQR6 to run at a 54W TDP without a power supply failure. I used a 180W PSU because it was the closest power supply in my arms reach and have since downgraded to 100W. Unfortunately the EQR6 85W PSU will randomly shut down at a 54W TDP and contributes a large part why there is a 25-60% performance difference between the EQR6 and SER6. The EQR6 otherwise runs stable at its 35W TDP and 85W PSU.

      @marouanebouzoubaa3746 hi and happy to help. Congrats on your order of the EQR6 7735HS. I expect the performance to be very close to the EQR6 6900HX and in games to offer about 60% less fps than most other 680M equipped mini pc. The EQR6 does not support hdmi 2.1 and I am not very familiar with variable refresh rate but I am doubtful it is supported. The two hdmi ports each supprt a video bandwidth of 4k 60hz which can be adjusted to 1440p 120hz or 1080p 240hz or similar supported spec by hdmi 2.0.

      Thanks for the info. The 6600H is better value because you will get much closer to the processors full performance if needed. Looks like Beelink's antenna quality control issue strikes again. My EQR6 6900HX wifi has about the same range as all my other mini pc. I am using a TP-Link Deco S4 wifi mesh in my lab and some really cheap generic 300mbps router in my home and I didn't notice an issue. So far no issue with the internal power supply and just feeling it out, the efficiency is much better than the GTi14 Ultra's 145W built in PSU since the EQR6 stays cool when off. The PSU is replaceable if needed but is what it is. Other 6600H options like the GMKtec M6 and Trigkey S6 or Bosgame P5 might be of interest to you if you want to try a different machine but they do cost a decent amount more.

      That's a good point. Next update I'll put some heatshrink on there 👍

    Hi do anyone know if there any problem using the RX6400 ? This is a video card low profile that dont need external power supply so i guess this is just turn on the dock and the pc right?

    Thanks for the review. Did I heard it right? it is X4 and not X8 PCIE? Did you check the PCIE connection on 3DMark? My oculink connection is scores 6.7gb/s. Wonder what is the bandwidth of this dock.

    • @Power3DDesign
      @Power3DDesign 29 дней назад

      The Beelink GTi Ultra dock has a gen 4 x8 bandwidth but I was talking about oculink having x4 bandwidth and similar performance with current gen GPU. I may have mixed the two up accidentally. I am just using the demo version so I don't have access to the PCI Express feature test. 3D Mark Steel Nomad says the connection is PCIe x8 4.0

      @@Power3DDesign thanks for replying. Read some reviews that the minipc producing heat. I have doubt on built-in power supply. Or maybe because its intel producing heat. Did you stress test it for long hours?

    • @Power3DDesign
      @Power3DDesign 29 дней назад

      I agree with there being a lot of heat. Hwinfo64 tells me frequently the 185H CPU is thermal throttling. It's not near shutdown temperatures but thermal throttling is the main thing holding back the 185H's performance. I tried repasting, lapping, removing the speakers and dust filter, just not enough to improve temperatures. The internal power supply seems functional but not efficient. I don't know how long I have been using the GTi14 Ultra but it has been weeks of some irregular use and occasional testing. I haven't experienced any unexpected shut downs but the case gets warm even if the mini pc is off indicating the power supply is bleeding power somehow. I can circumvent this by using a USB C PD PSU or by connecting the GTi14 Ultra to a surge protector and turning off the surge protector to cut power completely. It's a weird quirk. I'm not too worried about the PSU because it can be adapted to a standard 5.5x2.5mm external power supply. I just finished modding an EQR6 6900HX and I'm considering doing the same to the GTi14 Ultra.

      @@Power3DDesign thank you for honest review. I have a minisforum UM780XTX and DEG1 dock with 4070 dual fan. Connected on my smart switch. I setup the minipc to start when there is power. All I need to do is switch on the smart switch and it will open including the dock. So happy with this setup. Do you think I can update my GPU to 4070 ti super? Or there will bottleneck on oculink connection?

    Which is best in your opinion? Beelink SER9 or Geekom A8? Thanks

    • @Power3DDesign
      @Power3DDesign Месяц назад

      Pros for the Geekom A8: The Beelink SER9 is a larger mini PC at 0.8L vs the Geekom A8's impressively small 0.46L size and the A8 has 4 display out ports instead of the SER9's 3. The A8 RAM supports up to 64GB and the SER9's RAM is much faster at 7500Mhz (8000Mhz OC) but not upgradeable from 32GB. Pros of the SER9: The SER9 has a full function USB4 port, hdmi 2.1, expandable 2nd ssd slot, a newer and better CPU/iGPU about 10-25% better in short bursts and about 50% better for sustained loads. Unfortunately, the A8 RAM thermal throttles and this can result in about a 25% performance loss in tasks longer than a couple minutes. The SER9 on the other hand is much better cooled and unlocked to the point I can overclock the system for about 2-7% extra performance. There is also a significant noise difference as the A8 will have to ramp up its fan speed more frequently to keep the mini cool. Overall, if size isn't super important to you, the Beelink SER9 is a much better value. I might even recommend the much cheaper SER8. The A8 is almost half the size if you have pockets big enough for it. I just wish Geekom had cooled it properly or used an 8840U CPU instead of a 8945HS or 8845HS.

      Thank you! I did not notice a wifi disconnect problem with the GTI14 Ultra but I can double check because I did not test using the m.2 wifi adapter in the dock. I downloaded 4060 drivers, ran intel driver and support assistant, and windows updates.

      I did some retesting to stress the wifi out and I could not find any disconnection issues. Maybe it is something that will appear for me weeks from now while I use the machine more but if I don't reply an update, it's likely the machine's wifi has still been working. I use a wifi mesh TP-Link Deco S4 so my wifi is pretty good.

      Thanks for the reply broseph, I just ordered an m.2 dock. I figured one needs to definitely give the ribbon cable a gentle fold 90 degrees. Then either cut into the aluminum housing for the cable to escape or make a cut to the metal dust cover run the cable through there and use a spacer to attach the bottom cover. I'll see once the dock arrives. Keep me posted 🤙🏻

      That sounds very interesting and I wish you the best with the mod. I think it should be possible to just run the mini pc on its side without the plastic bottom, dust filter, and replace the ssd heatsink with a generic m.2 ssd heatsink. If you really need to, keeping the screws of the dust filter and plastic cover should provide plenty of room for a cable to pass through without cutting anything. Best wishes with your mod!!
