    I wouldn't rule out BJJ for smaller people. Their use of the clinch to reduce an attacker's striking power can come in handy. The clinch can be followed up with grappling skills. Or be used to get an attacker under control until the attack is broken up.

    • @lycandefensive
      @lycandefensive 18 дней назад

      @CrowdPleeza I wouldn't rule it out either. Obviously, there are many positive attributes to BJJ training, especially in the ways of controlling someone else. And I would never say otherwise. (Myself and my entire family train BJJ). All I'm saying is that there are other options, especially when the goal is to maintain range and distance.

    Terrific! One small comment, though: when she steps off to the side, her best attack would be (likely) a kick to the side of her attacker's knees, orthogonal to how they naturally bend. That of course is very unsafe to practice because of the huge risk of tearing the ACL, but for a real attack that would be the point. Whenever you do what your opponent doesn't expect, you have an advantage. Few attackers expect to be kicked in the knees from the side.

    All of this is fine, but for self-defense what works for smaller weaker people is target focus training. Basically regardless of the style or method, you must learn to focus on striking the weak spots of the body. The human body is full of targets which are either timers or switches. Striking a particular one takes time to produce effect, striking another shuts down the body's function.

    "Self Defense" classes are bull crap. You train what trained killers use consistently. I've seen this Keysi style before, and it is not that good. Better than tai chi or akido, but heavily flawed. And like akido, it might work on the untrained. Claims to have answers against grapplers and strikers, but ends up being a poor version of MMA. I wish someone would do Keysi in my MMA sparing rounds because it would be a relaxing round. I'm also a Police Officer that deals with the "self-defense" scenarios. I would never train this or teach it to other POs. What works is what trained fighters use

I have also known a few cops that obviously could have been shown a bit more positive attention growing up. Wonder which one you are??? Anyways, thanks for stopping by with your professional opinion. I taught my kids how to defend themselves, and they have. My son was swung on and the guy ended up with a torn rotator cuff. My daughter has used the mindset that I taught her to avoid attacks several times and probably more she’s not aware of, as well as getting away from someone who was trying to harm her. FMA teaches excellent weapons skills so that they can use whatever is at hand and be less afraid to deal with a weapon used against them. Be safe

      @@lycandefensive I will argue that it was never safe and probably worse when our martial arts ancestors created the arts, but it ain’t changed much. Get your kids healthy and strong, both physically and mentally and when they are ready, arm them with legal tools to protect themselves and others with. Mine are grown now and still carry tools for self protection. Pepper spray (gel with dye is best imo) is a great fight stopper. A good knife, even a firearm if you are willing to train them. Also use the cell phone. Most phones will call 911 on speaker if you tell them to loudly. When dispatch picks up the other end, watch how fast the bad guys find something better to do. Lastly, teach them it’s better to be seen as rude or crazy than a corpse. I would rather be wrong about a good person than a bad one, so if they sense something wrong, do something. Go back inside the store or drive away. Run, or get ready (maybe pre-load your tool into your hand secretly) to fight. Be load and describe exactly what is happening and what the bad guy is doing for witnesses. Don’t expect help in the moment, but do expect witnesses after if they are around.

      The short answer is that the base is dropped considerably from a traditional stance, and there is much less of a gap between you and your opponents (extreme close quarters). Therefore, the mid section is a less likely target, and in the event of a surprise strike, it's easy to adjust for. I would definitely not recommend keeping the high guard in kicking range. That's just asking for problems. But, in very close, protection of the head and it's knock out points remains high priority.

    Its funny how people who trash kfm and dl never do them same with 52 blocks prison fighting system. Many , if not all moves found in kfm and dl can be found in 52 blocks (in addition to many other blocks) which has been tested for decades in prisons.

    the worst thing is, that on this kind of demo videos, there always are always trying their best to look good. If on a demo, they look like this, imagine actual training. That's just ridiculous fr

      I haven't ever seen a demo in any art where the demonstrator wasn't trying to look good. That's part of the purpose of a demo. But i do see the point you're trying to make, I think.

    I am mixing some of the keysi conceps with my boxing and kickboxing, and i have been sucessful with some of those blocks and hammerfists, i wanna do some sparring with 2 or 3 friends at the same time to test some of that stuff, but it seems like it would work with multiple opponents when you're surrounded and can't use footwork to evade

    To improve your speaking skills it's important to cull unecessary pauses like Um and Uh. I had to train myself to cull those from my speech when I entered the military to be a mire efficient speaker and teacher.

      It's OK, buddy, as I'm not really trying to sell anything. I have said it before, I am a harbinger of different perspectives. I don't really care if you want to do this or not.
