I’ve gotten my eiki 16 machine threading record of about 16 seconds. Can’t imagine doing it with 70 in that time. I take a while to thread up 70 on the vic 8 as the loops need to be pretty darn up to scratch otherwise it can ruin the film. And in days like this where 70 is so valuable, I certainly don’t want to do that. Cheers, Have a good one!

@@classic_movie_trailers Orpheum do test runs to double check everything. The Orpheum is very presentation based so it’s better to be prepared for anything. As film can go wrong very easily.

@@ClarkTeddles Yes can see the need for preparation and caution. As my theatre was the only one screening this print for many years a careful bench check when winding was enough to make sure all the joins etc are ok.

It’s unfortunately not the one with the narration by Harrison ford. I don’t know too much about blade runner so I presume it’s the more common cut of the film. Not the Final Cut, but something earlier.

35mm film build up to a platter works exactly the same way. Imax Film uses 70mm but the image is sideways taking up 15 perforations. Normal 70mm is 5 perforations. Normal 35mm is 4 perforations per frame. 70mm is many times better resolution (more than 2) than 35mm and Imax many more times again. Before platters (and many cinemas still today) theatres ran 2 projectors with changing from one to another between spools.

@@jim-stacy First, make sure it is an Imax that screens 70mm film. Most converted to digital projection. Front row would be too much - they chose a weird aspect ratio that is very high - sit towards the centre-back for best viewing.

@@Pioneers_Of_Cinema digital. Phone cameras are amazing. But its when you really zoom in to a low light 35mm film you see the difference. I can only imagine how much light and detail 70mm captures. Ill have to do some research. I want to find a 70mm imax film theatre and go experience it

One print ended up in Oslo, Norway at least. Screened on Klingenberg cinema down town..

Few audio glitches and missing shots. They were minute but would rather the better version be uploaded publicly. After all, it’s all about the quality! Cheers

Not quite, this has the original color timing with better white balance. 2012 has a teal tint added

Both parts were spliced together, there was no intermission, just the “intermission” card. The screening was very late and so the candy bar was shut so the audience couldn’t do anything other than go the bathroom.

A print of reservoir dogs would be amazing. That Tarantino marathon sounds great. And yes, sometimes a stuck platter will trip the system to think the feature has finished and the lights will turn on in the auditorium, glad it was fixed! Cheers, Thanks for the comment

I agree, ever since digital the whole "presentation" part of the movies has been lost. Thats why these film screenings are always great, it feels like a very special event (which it is). Thanks for commenting

sure is. obviously, if it were 6 track mag it would have to be split with an intermission.

That is a scary weight. I much prefer to screen 70mm on spools - two projectors. Yes the thickness of magnetic sound adds substantial volume to a spool. @@ClarkTeddles

The Dts reader feeds the DTS timecode into the DTS processor, in which it detects the code and finds the correct track to play exactly in sync, it does all of this within 6 frames of reading the timecode. A much better explanation can be found in my Oppenheimer at the Ritz video. The Film-Tech Cinema Systems forum/website also has great information about it too. Cheers! have a great day

In addition to Clark's reply, the DTS system detects if there is a join or piece of film missing and instantly jumps the CD-R to the correct spot to keep it in sync. Personally I prefer the sound of 6 track magnetic sound - a system now only found on older 70mm or 35mm film prints as it is obsolete. The magnetic sound is much warmer and has more depth and presence than the DTS which I find a bit top-end heavy and shrill. When I screened DTS we ran the sound through a professional equalizer to make the sound a bit less harsh. The DTS system is the only sound source on DTS 70mm - so if your DTS reader, or processor fails there is no sound. On post-mono 35mm film there is usually multiple sound tracks to cover if one fails.
