Thanks for sharing this great experience with us film heads!! Kid in a candy store, love it. Saw 70mm print last week at the Orpheum, great presentation. Keep it up Clark mate!
The projector shown in this video is actually owned by one of the projectionists who work at this cinema (not featured in this video, but in my Dark Knight, Pulp Fiction, and Pink Floyd). This projector is taken care as well as possible. Film rulez indeed! Cheers
This is awesome. I've never seen a film in IMAX before but this makes me even more keen to see this one in that format. I love how tangible this is, it's "just" a beautiful evolution of old technology. Greetings from Hungary :)
A truly brillaint way to put it! evolution of old technology, love it. Hope you get to see a film in IMAX one day, I only had my first IMAX viewing until a couple of weeks ago in Melbourne, when it's done well, it truly is the best way to see certain films. Thanks for commenting, Cheers!
I'm glad you liked it! Thats why I enjoy filming these videos, it's not very publicly shown and not many people know how much work is going into certain special presentations. Cheers!
Great question, here's a link to a video from Bored_Tech who did a phenomenal video in the projection booth of an IMAX theater in London, building up all 53 reels of Oppenheimer in 15-perf IMAX film. ruclips.net/video/d5XqqylBW7M/видео.html Thanks for the kind words! greatly appreciated, cheers
Awesome thank you so much for this, it brings back such memories! I saw it in 15-perf (very lucky) but I'm sure this format is also wonderful.. last one I saw probably would have been Hateful 8 haha, Keep film alive!
Glad you got to see it in the best possible format. This 70mm print was also done photochemically so it looks great. Thanks for watching the video, cheers
A lot of work goes into each and every presentation, so I'm glad its getting full-houses. Hope you can see it at one of the IMAX's in London, of a standard 70mm print (they both look absolutely stunning). Thanks!
@ClarkTeddles I Wonder If The 3 Minute Vertigo DTS Test Film Look Like. Beacause I Did Not Find This Video On RUclips. I Hope One Day Or An Another Have Upload This.🙂 Update:Is A Nood To The 1958 Film Of The Same Name.
if it is ever projected, I will be sure to film it, although I'm sure the picture clarity is exactly the same (if not, very close) to the 70mm release of vertigo. Although I greatly doubt it will be projected on screen as the DTS system is perfectly setup. Thanks for watching!
Fabulous! I loved the gag near the start where the distributor letter recommends a certain RUclips channel. Is 'Brad Miller' the Brad Miller from the 8mm Forum? John.
@@ClarkTeddles I haven't spoken with Brad in well over ten years now. Amazing to see his name turn up in one of your videos Clark. Who would have thunk it?
@@moviecollector5920Brad is a great guy, truly one of the most knowledgeable people I’ve ever spoken to about film. Hope you can get in contact with him again soon. By the way, I saw your newest “home cinema build” and its looking brilliant. Love the neon sign. Speaking of “empire” have you seen empire of light yet? Some great projection booth scenes in it. Cheers
@@ClarkTeddles I haven't seen Empire of Light yet Clark but I will do soon I think. Andy is here plastering today so it's almost finished. The video projector is down again as the new beam had to be plastered so that's a bit of a pain as it was nerve wracking getting it up but it does give us the opportunity to move it over another inch which should make filling the screen even easier. John.
@@moviecollector5920 I was rather dissapointed that Empire of Light didn't get a 4K release, due to the 35mm prints being struck from a 4K source, it sure did look great. I've heard the blu ray for Empire of Light looks stunning, it has 5/5 for visuals last I checked on the blu ray website. Can't wait to see the finished product of your home cinema. Cheers
Thankfully the "Platter" system requires no need to rewind the film. although if you had a reel-to-reel setup (also known as changeovers) you would need to rewind each reel.
Terrific Video. A few questions: 1:08 What is the Vertigo DTS Test? Is that an excerpt of the Hitchcock film? If so, which scene? 3:00 Aren’t white gloves recommended for Splicing film? 3:36 What was contained on the 2nd disc and the flash drive? Also, once the film has completed its run, do you splice back the heads and tails of each reel?
Hi, 1. The test film on reel 1 is a 3 minute scene from vertigo (unsure of what scene). it can be used when testing the DTS setup to make sure everything is in sync. 2. Gloves are recommended but only the sides of the film and not the picture were touched. leaving nothing on the projected image. 3. the 2nd disc included the other half of Oppenheimer. the flash drive included the entire same tracks. this way, theaters around the world have an option to pick between both. for the CD-rom, its separated onto two discs due to its large 1.3 GB size. 4. The print that the Ritz received does not need to be sent back for now. But typically, when a print is returned, the leaders and tails are of course spliced back on. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers
I remember when they played DTS off of cd's there was 2 cd and if u wonted trailers you had to have a disk for that 2 or else it would play stereo untill it found the triler with dts on it on 35 mm good times better then they are now with all digital now plus we had masking so no gray bars on the screen like today it just looks like a old tv now when u go to most movie theater all the Presentation is gone now a days
I agree, ever since digital was introduced, the bar has been set very very low for movie presentations. That's another reason why film presentations are so great, they're manually planned out and perfected with each screening. Digital always has flaws, one way or another. Cheers
Wow Clark Teddles the Reel Guy 😆. That was cool that the film delivery company recognised your channel. Very exciting stuff. Do any of the guy wear earplugs in these booth's? They see very noisy. Well done Clark Trevor
It certainly was cool that Brad over at Film-Tech put my name on the sheet for reel 1. The others said go check out "Splice Here: A Projected Odyssey" which is a great doco that you would absolutely love, if there is a screening happening near you soon, definitely try make it to one of them. A Blu-Ray is in the works so that may be the go. I'll have the letter framed soon with some nice film leader around it, truly one of the best surprises ever. As for your question, we don't wear ear plugs in the booth, although the projector is loud, we can still understand what each other are saying, I think my audio on my youtube videos is rather loud. Cheers!
@@ClarkTeddles I'm chuffed for you mate. Are you working at the cinema now? Just think about your hearing. It's not always the volume that damages your hearing but the constant barrage of sound hours on end. Keep safe mate, just looking out for you. Trevor

I believe this is a regular 70 mm reel and not an IMAX one. The frame is about four perfs each. Correct if wrong.
you're correct, it's 5-perf standard 70mm. Cheers
