Nicely recorded and edited. Good to see Bert (Rob) projecting 70mm film. With the rare opportunity to see a new 70mm production in an amazing theatre, there should be a bigger audience.
Thank you for the kind words. This video was filmed on a Friday morning session and that's why it wasn't very popular, most people were at work, and the way I shot it made it seem like slightly less people were in attendance, where the almost the whole "back section" of the seating was taken. I heard the weekend and night sessions were more attended which is great, as Bert's presentations are amazing. This cinema is also in Melbourne, home of the only IMAX cinema in Australia with 1570 capability, the sydney imax has gotten rid of theirs. I presume with all the fuss about the Oppenheimer imax print length, weight, and size on social media made more people in Melbourne chose to see it in imax. Although either option is great. However I do have my reasoning as to why the 5 perf prints have overall better quality than the 1570 prints. Cheers
Thanks for explaining the session issue. Distributors put strange conditions on programming sessions that most times there are only a handful of patrons attending. Better to have less sessions with more people = more atmosphere and buzz in my opinion. Anyway that was my programming philosophy - we had more freedom when running a repertory theatre, change of programme daily! One session - two on weekends.@@ClarkTeddles
The biggest issue is the competition from the nearby IMAX theatre in Carlton, showing the film in 1570 print. On the bright side, those who missed the chance to book a 1570 ticket can instead opt for the next best quality here.
@@ClarkTeddles It was lovely seeing Bert on screen and knowing you were filming it. Two wonderful film enthusiasts down under whom I've corresponded with quite a lot lately. I found it all strangely exciting and I wanted more by the end of it. John.
@@moviecollector5920 I'm almost certain you'll meet Bert soon. He's currently doing a few Splice Here screenings in America, so there's a chance he may come to UK. If he doesn't attend any screenings in the UK, you'll always know where to find him! Here in Au!
@@ClarkTeddles We're going to be doing a big push for Splice Here: A Projected Odyssey as being the big attraction for the Film Is Fabulous! event in Leicester at the end of October. Best film documentary I've ever see... it's right up my alley, that's for certain. Watched it three times and could sit through it again right now if I had the chance. John.
@@moviecollector5920 I saw some advertising for the FIF event, very glad you'll be screening it. How did you obtain a copy by the way? I was thinking of requesting another screening for here in Sydney. A clark teddles-hosted screening at the ritz where everyone gets a strip of film.
Hoping this channel can spark some new interest in it. With Oppenheimer in 70mm a lot of people are learning about it (even if some of the information is incorrect). Thanks for commenting! Cheers
You are really enjoying these visits to the projection booth's aren't you Clark? I was really cool to actually see film again for what must be 35 years or more. Seeing flecks of dirt and the odd scratch was a nice reminder that the next showing would have a few more scratches and a bit more dirt. Keep it up fella. Trev
Rob's Documentary will be getting a dvd and blu-ray release in the near future. to be one of the first to hear about it, you can sign up to the Splice Here newsletter on the official splice here website (linked in description). Cheers!
The doco has been a labour of love for many years for Bert as you probably know. I was happy to have an executive producer status of the doco. Anyone involved in that sort of project knows how difficult it can be to get it over the finish line.@@ClarkTeddles
Thank you for your contribution to this amazing doco. It's still the best documentary I've ever seen. I've got the blu ray coming in the mail soon, very excited to receive it. Cheers! @@Pioneers_Of_Cinema
Having run the show for a long while in the USA, it's good to see others across the world are keeping projection alive and well (especially 70mm).

Problem with this is the quality degrades over time.
The dedication & love of his craft is amazing
I didn't see this until now Clark. Brilliant young man! John.
Thanks, John! It was great fun filming this video, Bert is a great guy, and the presentation was brilliant.

Nice video! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for commenting! I still think your Oppenheimer print assembly video is one of the best film-videos out there. Greatly appreciated!
