Lenovo Thinkpad P1 for Gaming: The 'P' stands for...
A thinkpad for gaming? The ULTIMATE sleeper performance laptop? It had to be investigated. A Lenovo Legion? Nope! Same company, completely different team, Just the Lenovo P1 ThinkPad.
Who’s idea WAS this anyway? Looks like it can ONLY handle presentations and spreadsheets but it is MUCH more than that. A laptop for creators? A laptop for professionals? A laptop for college? A gaming laptop with an RTX 4090? A laptop for any situation?
Check out my review on the Lenovo P1 (6th Generation)! By the way, I still could not figure out what the ‘P’ stands for. 😊
Even if it is from 2023 it can still play in the category of Gaming Laptop 2024. The specs of the device being reviewed below:

ROG Zephyrus G16 2024 review | RIP Razer Blade!

The thinnest and lightest PROPER gaming laptop I have ever used at 0.59 inches and 1.8 kilos! The Zephyrus G16 2024 : despite less room for it to breathe, It has a fully powered GPU and an NPU and is still is made from premium materials and has amazing thermals - this can kill a Razer Blade 16. That is a BIG achievement and that is why you would pay a price premium over mainstream gaming laptop...

With this new snobby family member, there is no doubt, Legion has certainly remedied the issue of its previous flagship, the Legion 7, being stripped of many sought after features this year in 2023 (biometrics, screen, build, RGB etc.) It stands out in that crowded room of gaming laptop offerin...

Legion Slim 7i Gen 8 : It's getting old!

The 8th generation of the Legion Slim 7 is primarily a refinement of its predecessor the 7th generation Legion Slim 7. Considering the “adopted child” treatment that Lenovo gave its flagship gaming laptop this year (2023), the Legion Pro 7i, it has been good news that the 2023 Slim 7 was not particularly subject to the same treatment. Had my 4070 variant for a month and a half now. My job requires me to run graphically intensive games for 9+ hours a day. Then after work I spend a few more hours playing games for my own leasure. This thing hasn't let me down yet. It's powerful enough, and super slim and light. 4 lbs.

      Ohh sweeeet. I would straight up agree with you. I sooo wish I had gotten a 6850 when I could. Who knew that the advantage edition would be such a rare sight. I just dont get why consumers just blindly follow nvidia. I mean ray tracing should never have been a make or break feature. Especially in laptops . Whats the point of running raytracing with dlss? I really avoid upscaling settings as much as possible and perhaps would only use them in competitive online multiplayer games. Anywayyy. I am just sad Radeons have been pushed back in the dark. I have always wanted to see AMD take Nvidia down a notch. We neeeeed competition and cannot afford to have Nvidia monopolize gaming.

      @@kazmiee I think AMD has given up on mobile GPUs. Last year, around June there were leaks about a potential 7700M, 7800M, 7800S and 7900S. There was even a leaked TimeSpy score with the 7800M. It destroyed the 4080 mobile... But nothing came out of it, it was never released. I think if AMD can get a hold of the midrange and entry levels with their Strix Halo mega APUs and be able to challenge the Nvidia xx70 class, we won't see AMD dGPUs anymore in laptops. They struggled to get their chips into laptops. They just don't sell well, sadly...

      @kazmiee 5 дней назад

      Apologies for the late response. If you want to squeeze every little frame out of your mobile GPU, especially a 4080 or 4090, personally.. just from my own experience.. I feel your best bets are with an Alienware or a Legion. They tend to have heavy thermal solutions and can bear with extended loads.. I suppose ROG also does well with their NON-zephyrus G16 or G18s. But anyway.. coming back to the Pro 16x. It has an AWESOME screen with a 3.2K resolution. It just has a 120hz refresh rate but that is MOOOORE than plenty for story driven games which loollking amazing on this screen. The Pro 16X is just a very special and unique laptop. Being able to pull ample air from the top of the device means it manages heat quite well and is built from really high quality materials. I just dont like that it has just 1 slot for an ssd and just 1 type A usb slot. Overall, I reeeaaally like the pro16x :)

From where I am there are very limited options in the market currently 1- G14 Ryzen 9 8945hs rtx4060 16gb ram ( Oled screen) 2- G16 Ultra 155h rtx4060 16gb ram (OLED screen) 3- G16 Ultra 155h rtx4070 32gb ram (IPS screen) - 20% more expensive than top 2

      @kazmiee 10 дней назад

      @@RahulRanjanoenaoh hey thanks Rahul. I cannot believe they have an IPS option on this. I thought it was oled only.. hmm tough.. it all comes down to usecase tbh..the screen ill leave to your personal preference .. 16 gigs of ram honesly feels a bit low now. IF.. you have zero chance of getting into video editing then perhaps the 16 gigs would be okay for gaming for now. But if youre getting something for 3 years, not sure if 16 gigs would age well. If battery life is important to you and screen size isnt.. but portability is suuuper important, the g14 would also work well with the ryzen cpu. Does that make sense? You have any specific use cases to share?

But to answer your question. I no longer have the device with me but I did save the standatd battery logs. It seems that I was averaging a little less than 3 hours on mixed use. And this would be on full sreen brightness and perfomance mode with hybrid graphics selected. And usually during those times, there would be alot of hdd writing activities because id be downloading and deleting huge games. I should have done my standard battery test here but somehow it missed the script. :/ Btw, your interest in the P1.. is there a specific use case for which you were eyeing the P1?.. btw the gen 7 is out and if you use a discount affiliation like Venngo or Perkopolis you could score pretty big discounts on it as well.

      @@kazmiee you would be surprised my friend. I’ve watched quite a few channels get from your level to the millions of subscribers with a few dedicated months of quality regular content. I like to think the algorithm only recommends real one’s who got the “it” factor haha. It seems like the 1-9k sub mark is a critical threshold. I actually just received my 4090 p1 a few days ago and was just curious to compare battery life. I share your experience/opinions on most other things (~15.5k timespy, enjoying the screen, nice sleeper build, etc.). I got roughly 6-7 hours doing normal tasks throughout the day and at school so it’s perfect for my use case. I actually wanted the gen 6 specifically bc it seems to be the last of the “old” guard thinkpads. Still have physical buttons instead of haptic trackpad, a nice beefy 165hz ips display instead of oled, and a PHAT 4090 in an understated package. I got a nice deal on ebay on a brand new gen 6 from an authorized reseller and honestly am really happy with it so far. Besides some minor trackpoint drift occasionally, the machine doesn’t skip a beat.

      Heyyy Glad you like it. It definitely is one of those laptops that I just dont feel like selling. It is something special for sure! It is crazy how the viability and performance of gaming laptops in general have improved by leaps and bounds over the last few years. A desktop IMO is mostly worth it if you plan to build something with a 4090 or 4080 that needs crazy amounts of power. Even besides that, personally It has allowed me to remain loyal to gaming because a laptop just gives me more convenient and easier access. I can just get into it in any place of the house or in a cafe or at the airport. And now with windows based handhelds, the level of access has been pushed even further. Anyway. I do hope you continue yo enjoy the G16. I am hopefully going to be putting out a review soon on a comparison between the Legion 7 gen 9 and the G16.

      @kazmiee 11 дней назад

      Heyyy, really really sorry about the late reply; I would imagine that your questions may have already gotten resolved by now but ill share my POV here. The Pro 16x easily feels like it has the more premium build and feels a bit more special & exclusive. BUT because of its unique hinge it may be a bit delicate to bumps n all. HOWEVER, Asus in their marketing have stressed over how tough the Pro 16x is since it has gone through MIL STD standard tests. So far the device is working perfectly for me.. Your next question though is a good one. I use a compressed air can with the thin long nozzle attachement which can go under the keyboard and close to the fans. however, you can still clean the fans by opening the botton cover and also using a portable air blower or the compressed air can on the fans as well while keeping the lid open so that dust can push through from the top. Overall, I dont think it is a big deal.

Run asus armory crate, sign in, run updates - set GPU mode to ultimate (restart) and set performance tu turbo - remember that the laptop will work TIMES better when plugged in 3. Run geforce experience, update GPU drivers 4. Go to microsoft store > library > get updates / update all 5. Install game platforms.. steam, epic (fortnite) battlenet (call of duty), ubisoft (assassins creed, division) .. Steam should be the main platform though for getting games. So make sure to make an account there.. you should also get a complimentary xbox game pass.. so just claim it and get into playing some games right away for free (1-3 month subscription) I would say that should cover alot of the initial setup :)

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee Месяц назад

      @@selectaguru well. Yes. With the strix 4090, you can probably expect around a 15%-20% performance bump. But that is not because of th3 CPU but because of the GPU being able to take up more power (TGP) since the strix is a much thicker device and can manage a more robust cooling solution. The 4090 in the Zephyrus G16 will have a lower power limit.. around 120watts max and witht the strix..from what I understand, I think the 4090 would be able to manage close to 170 watts

    I wish lenovo would just focus on making A good product rather than just many products consumers get to choose from. It makes the product selection much simpler to customers, and also they can optimise that one product to a point where it smokes its competition for brand value, and scale of manufacturing which allows lenovo to make that product cheaper in the first place. I still cant forget what they did to the legion 7 lineup from 2022. They were the best gaming laptops Period. But then next year, they had to remove some of its premium features, but keep the same performance and then later introduce a much more premium version , the legion 9i, which then necessitated separate manufacturing, and new materials, just to justify its ridiculous price tag, while the legion 7 still continues to offer value for money performance, just with fewer features compared to last gen. And with the thinkpad series, its even worse, with many different thinkpad laptops with different names at the end of its name, which makes them difficult to recommend a model to relatives wanting a business laptop, and not to mention the introduction of thinkbook series, which is just legion slim 7 just without the gaming features but same price tag. It seems all of the tech companies decided to gouge out customers with small nice to have features and offer not much better value better to price, which makes the entire market even more confusing than it already is, and thats why I think Macbooks are selling well because of their simplified product categorisation, even though they are overpriced and not user upgradeable!

    • @kazmiee
      @kazmiee Месяц назад

      Oh man you said it! I absolutely hated how they gutted the Legion 7 after the Gen 7 - Things were looking real good at that time especially since we had separate versions for Intel/Nvidia and Radeon/Ryzen. The Gen7 was just such a masterpiece. It literally covered all the bases. They just wanted to jack up the prices is all; which is why the Legion 9 came into view; Sure, we get a LITTLE more firepower with better thermals including a third fan and top side intakes (and a gimmicky water cooling solution) but they just charged wayyy too much man. I dont know if you got a chance to watch another video of mine but I think I ranted over the same things there: ruclips.net/video/D7-NFoRF5Xc/видео.htmlfeature=shared - check it out if you can Having soo many options to chose from is definitely a bit confusing for the consumers out there. And its probably only going to get worse down the line though. I am actually looking forward to reviewing the new legion 7.. not the PRO version; feels like it was a step towards the Gen 7 design (without the RGB though) _ I just cant seem to find it in white in my region as yet; hope I find one soon and share my review of it with you all :)

I wish they bought the AMD advantage versions back, although AMD themselves arent doing a great job in shipping those chips and marketing. I am looking forward to AMD strix Halo gaming laptops from lenovo with the same form factor as the 2023 legion slim 7, although with upgradeable internals. I hope they don’t mess this up and release a separate product category, and just make A good gaming laptop. Lenovo is in the right direction with their legion 7 lineup, hope they dont screw this the next year, just so they can upcharge for a higher tier model, or remove features to justify the possibility of increased gpu and cpu prices next year….
