Wading Creeks For Big Black Morel Mushrooms
You can tell from the start this is a good spot because all of the honeysuckle, right?!
You are like a morale ninja😂
I was so disappointed that you pull the mushrooms instead of cutting or pinching them off. Selfish on your part. Do the research. Those from your dialogue, I doubt you are into being informed or learning facts
Do you pull any leaks out of there as well? Looks like you were over top of them.
Easter shifts around on our calender the other day was declared... but no need to make Jesus' love for all into a statement of dislike for others.
Wow,wasted my time watching this video. Every time he gets close to one, the mushroom is just under camera range and even when he picks them (even his best one) you see it for half a second after he picks it and not before he picks or as he talks about it afterwards.
I'll tell you my spots if you tell me your's.Thing is my spots I never find any😂
Found a pile or three Sunday and Monday.Just over 80.Mostly little gray's.😁
I found 49 Sunday, 34 today 4/29.
Just curious on why you kicked the dog peckers? Are they not worth picking or is it just because of what your after
Both, I never feel like those are worth any time or energy
@@whisker_biscuit_outdoors1385 makes sense. Appreciate the response and the videos. I'm in Columbus Ohio myself and am just starting this year mushroom hunting. These videos have helped
I need to start checking some shag bark areas by me in southeast Lower Michigan. For whatever reason, blacks are extremely scarce in my area of the state. I'm assuming its because I'm in the old glacial lakeplain and the soils are alkaline and somewhat calcareous. There are not a lot of sandy, well-drained soils by me. Cheers bud, good luck the rest of the season.
Thanks man, I appreciate it and good luck to you
Apple trees are so hit an miss for me. I hunt an old abandoned spot every year, usually only find a few, but continue to think one year it's going to flush hard haha. Nice hunt!
Same man, last few years been good there. 4-5 years before that not so much
I found 4 really nice ones 2 days ago but ive never found a patch like that
Nvm shag bark hickory lol my bad
Im curious on how to find these? I know the video says to do this but im assuming you mean just go out and look? Lol honestly though would like to know if them are around specific trees or on a creek bank maybe
I have other videos on black morels that might be helpful
Nope, won't be doing that if I have to take weapons!
Awesome, no luck here in western ny yet.
They coming man
I swear this guy could find morels in the middle of Times Square.
Track lines are where they're at for me right now.
Your the best manufacturing meth Go there 😂😂😂 Indiana is the best for that
Was at prairie creek yesterday it was extremely windy.
That place loves wind, lot of people hunt there and still it produces
I always carry while picking. 5 days of 80 degree but I picked a punch of tulips that were still pretty fresh. Maybe 1-2 weeks left here in the Shawnee national Forrest
We also carry, x 2 at least. One of the counties we morel hunt in had the highest per capita number of confirmed meth "labs" in the U.S. a few years ago. The numbers are down nowadays due to the pseudoephedrine laws they enacted (most of the meth is now brought-in) but we still come across outdoor "lab" sites occasionally. Even just running into a drunken blow-hard who thinks that area on public ground is "his spot" is a potential shooting scene. I prefer concealed carry, but we open-carry at least one each while mushroom hunting, & that has staved off the drunks & tweakers for the most part.
Watching this video allowed me to think of an old orchard I always hunt in the fall for woodcock, just never thought about it for morels before. Still early here but looking forward to checking it out.
Let me know how you do man
I'm goin to the woods with a 20$ 😂
Nothing in WI yet except peewees. Heading south next week. Cool video. I learned to pick on urban trails years ago. Easy to keep from getting lost…haha. Happy hunting for the big push!
Give’em Hell
Yes Sir, will do! 😁🤣
Nothing in MN either. It would be cool if we didn't have such bipolar weather. It keeps getting up to 60-70° and back to freezing.
🤘👍👍👍👍✌️
There's some interesting studies on morel hunting old apple orchards and accumulative toxins and heavy metals from the trees being sprayed so heavy with pesticides and fungicides.
Looks like I should abandon that spot
Monroe county….love the videos.
Just a couple days away here in Iowa!! great video Subscribed for more!!
Thank you sir
If you CUT then mushrooms, leaving the ROOTS, they will grow back next year. Also, if you place in a mesh bag, similar to the MESH laundry bags, you allow for the spores to escape and grow more next year. My family and I have hunted morel and coral mushrooms for over 30+ years.
Cutting does nothing for future yields. Mushrooms grow from a mycelium mat not a root. A mushroom is a fruiting body just like an apple. Cutting and leaving the base has actually been studied to have more negative effects than plucking. You're leaving a rotting stump more susceptible to disease and pests, that can damage the mycelial mat.
I think you need to study your morel ecology a bit more. Fungi do not have roots. Most often, they will not spore immediately after picking (however mesh bags provide the best air circulation and prevent sweating in a plastic bag), lastly, they do not grow back the following year from the exact same "stump" as you harvested the previous year.
@@MichiganShroomer😮...You finding any? I just started finding some a few days ago 😊
Great video as always!
🙏
This never gets old man !!!! Love the videos learned a lot from your videos man ….
Thanks man
Bro I unlocked the morel code because of your videos!!!! Straight to the point u are you!!!!! Thanks 🙏 so much finding them left and right now Iam right by the pa Ohio line !!!! Ty man!!!!
Looks like you have Had about the same kind of day I had. Hit-and-miss.
How is the season for you compared to last year?
Definitely earlier than last, I know for sure in about 7-10 days when we see how much rain we get during this heat
@@whisker_biscuit_outdoors1385 I live in Southern Ontario and I found a big yellow on April 10th, which is really early. I normally don't start finding small ones until about the 25th of April and it doesn't start getting good until the first week of may. So it seems like it's a week or two early here as well, but I'll know better when I go out for a little look tomorrow. How about numbers for you? Does it seem like a better year than last? Best of luck with the rest of the season brother
Numbers are down I believe from last year so far. Definitely jealous of the fishing opportunities in your area man
@@whisker_biscuit_outdoors1385 I do a lot of small stream trout fishing here. Lots of great browns, some spots with brookies and some good steelhead fishing. Some great Smallmouth as well. It's nice having the great lakes in every direction LOL What do you like going for?
@@joet81I been checking my spots as well in Whitby side Even today not a peak yet , unless you are south than me on Niagara side 😢
Epic hunting! I totally pick the smaller grays. They have a more intense flavor to me. Now that I can finally see this week(cataract surgery) I should be able to get some.
Can’t get past the bigotry Hoosier. Tapped out 40 seconds in. Just looking for tips down here in southeast Indiana. To those of you who may not know, trans whatever day falls on the exact same day every year and Easter moves around. Been that way for years. Also keep in mind that we don’t see a lot of trans people in rural Indiana so not sure what the point was. Moving on and thanks anyway. ✌️
Sorry to scare you off so quickly. Here’s a tip though, just identify as a mushroom and you can find them whenever you want
What gets me is last year while fishing the DNR we met said they had a large deficit of staff and they couldnt even begin to cover all the areas needed covered properly
Walleye video soon?
You are really missing a prize along side those morels, I noticed a couple patches of ramps, dig them suckers n fry em in potatoes
im in nw indiana & havent found any yet
They are coming man, you’ll be good soon
@@whisker_biscuit_outdoors1385found about a hundred this year so far way better year for me than last year if you remember me complaining last year
Thanks for the clarification at the end about shag barks.
Kyle?!?!?
It was decided by my parents
Dude do you remember me
I absolutely do now man, how you living?
Great man !!! Digging your morel videos
Were you living these days?
Im ready, here in N Wv.
I’m going moral mushroom hunting today
Walked in to a Creek flat today half underwater. Picked over a hundred. Seen over a hundred in the water. Broke my heart. Keep picking.
Good on ya bud! Hoping to find some in Northwest Indiana tomorrow morning
Myself, I'd love to be able to have one of my grandmaw's hairs in one of her awesome biscuits ...died in 81...would 112 yrs old now. Melungeon (look it up) woman, had a hard life. One of her brothers "got et by the hogs" when he fell in the pen. Soddy Daisy, TN
Thanks for video and info
That’s my boy love to see it blood
Picked some of the biggest yellows I’ve ever found around sycamores yesterday. Great year! Great video
