What gets me is last year while fishing the DNR we met said they had a large deficit of staff and they couldnt even begin to cover all the areas needed covered properly
I wish I could sit down and have a talk with you like as far as trees and things you find because I've been mushroom hunting for 20 years and I find puker trees I find falling over trees that have thousands of morels around them and it makes no sense
Today was my last day out in Delaware/Henry co. I’m sure there’s a few more out there in woods with a lot of shade and cover but I’m good until next year. Good luck to you though
Always youth hunt before turkey season ...for years.......I'm in indiana been married 18 yrs my husband has taken my boys on youth hunt every year it's not made up it's not new its weekend before turkey season cant be in woods til after noon...I morel hunt every year I guess I know about youth hunt because my boys hunt with thier dad also I'm in central Indiana u mentioned brookville I'm guessing we are pretty close in area but just remember youth hunt will be next year too and year after ect. Happy hurting guy.
@whisker_biscuit_outdoors1385 I didn’t get a ticket but those that did got hit with a $130 fine. The guy at the gate informed me when I got there about the closed parts of the park and how much the tickets were. He was a douchbag but at least he told me. I’d fight that one though. As long as you can prove to the judge they had inadequate signs up and poorly placed as well as no online notification then you can probably get it tossed out. Just saying. Anyways happy hunting.
Ahh agree! That's actually one of my dad's 'secrets' he said tou don't gotta go deep straight away. You just gotta look for the signs it's the season, step into the woods, and look down. Haha. Family tradition since I was knee high.
Getting tickets for having too much fun is evidently the new norm when someone is connected and gets privileges to be on public lands but the rest of the public isn't. 🤔😠
Wait, what? Mushroom hunting is banned once turkey season starts? I didn't know that was a thing, now I have to look up my local laws I guess. That's some of the biggest bullshit I've ever heard honestly.
Read my comment above. It's two days a year, and turkey hunters have to leave the woods by 1 p.m. to allow mushroom hunters who don't have to purchase a license to use the park, ample opportunity to pick mushrooms.
Indiana Conservation Officers are the worst!!! Next time you see them call them a Game Warden and see how much they like that! They hate being called that and are not Game Wardens but Conservation Officers lol!
Ok so I'm gonna break this down. Turkey hunter/mushroom hunter here. I see your point on not being able to use public land, but there's two weekends a year that are specifically youth hunting weekends which fall before regular seasons start to give youth a special shot at harvesting a deer/turkey. Youth turkey falls every year at the same time the yellow morels are popping. You have a bunch of kids in the woods learnings to hunt with high powered shotguns with long range chokes, and to be honest crawling through the thickets with neutral colors on looking for mushrooms is very dangerous at this time. It's two days a year. Also as mushroom hunters we pay zero to enjoy state land. No license required. On youth turkey weekend you have two license carrying hunters who had to both purchase licenses from the state to be there, as youth hunts require a license carrying adult to be with the youth at all time. Also during early turkey season, turkey hunters must all leave all state property's by 1 p.m. to allow safe passage for non-license carrying mushroom hunters. So this stipulation goes both ways. We are lucky to have our department of natural resources accept mushroom hunting period. Lots of states including Ohio it's illegal to harvest mushrooms on most state land. There's different perspectives on everything whether you agree or not, DNR in Indiana do a bang up job of allowing everyone including mushroom hunters enjoy our resources safely.
@@michelebradley2694 it's in the book, on the website, and physical papers are taped to all the signs. How much clearer could it be? The only negligence was on whiskerbiscuit.

Be careful on public land and state land national forest always know your regulations. And were your at. There was a guy this year whom harvested a canoe full of morels in my opinion it was an illegal harvest and multiple trespass. As well just plain being a 🐷.

I think they should make everyone buy a license to hunt mushrooms that way they force people like you to know the rules. You make it sound like the state was in the wrong. It's been that way for years.
I think we should buy back everything that we already own from the government. We should get a license to have children. I don’t feel like people are being taxed enough by the government 🤣 thanks man
Wow, Indiana sucks apparently. That's ridiculous. In Wisconsin, public land is always open, even during hunting seasons. It's the hunters' responsibility to see you.

He can easily get out of this one if the judge is reasonable. He looked it up before going and didn’t pass any signs. With a well laid out argument the ticket will be dropped
They gave me a ticket once for riding my 4 wheeler on government land but it wasn’t posted so they had to dismiss it. Worst thing they can lawfully do is tell you to leave. The ticket is unlawful but most people don’t know their rights or the laws so they write tickets in hopes of generating revenue
