You're a BEAST!!
Thank you!
Hi! We are moving a 65" tv soon and I have two questions. I'm seeing dedicated TV moving boxes that are expandable with foam corners offered for screens up to 86". Would you still recommend crating instead? Do you have any recommendations for safe TV placement in the moving truck? Thank you SO much for all of these thorough videos. They are an incredibly help as we prepare for a DITY move.
We don't use the boxes that you described for large televisions. Typically we will crate larger televisions. 65 inch televisions fall within the gray area. There's nothing wrong with those types of television boxes, and for some people they could be much easier to use. We like to create larger televisions because it provides a safe housing that can be loaded on top of in the moving truck. If you find a box like you described that will fit your television, I don't think you can go wrong. As we always say boxing is half of the protection. The other half of protecting your belongings is properly loading. Having the television loaded properly inside of the moving van will insure it's safety during the move. We load televisions as if we are loading picture boxes. They are placed on top of base in the tier. We consider TV boxes to be "middle stuff". We will use other television boxes or picture boxes to fill out the tier and make it flush. Then we will load lighter items also known as "chowder" or "stick" on top. We have a video that describes the process of loading and moving van. I will link it at the bottom for you: ruclips.net/video/I7LW4tsIHTQ/видео.htmlsi=wpU8HnuYMPcmv0eS
Great video. I'm going to show this to our new recruits here in Bristol UK!
Thank you very much! That's really nice to hear.
Great video. Very informative. I'm having the carpet replaced in my music room the end of the summer and I'm already having anxiety having the piano moved. I will of course use professional piano movers... but now I know what to look for!
That should be a very easy move. If you're located in Western Pennsylvania feel free to give us a call. We would be happy to move your piano.
What type of ramp did you use for that?
We use two types of ramps. The first is an aluminum ramp made by Magliner. The second is a fiberglass walk board made by Melcher Manufacturing. The ramp in this video is a 12ft long fiberglass walk board. We ramps with many different lengths, ranging between 8ft and 16ft long. I hope this helps!
No Way, nope, not worth making a slight mistake nor injuring yourself, totally not worth it!👎🏻
I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to say here. We are professional piano movers who have specialized in moving pianos since 1936. I hope this was very clear in the presentation and the demonstration of how to dismantle and move a grand piano. This video is not meant to be a tutorial, but an education for our perspective clients. If this video showed you how difficult it can be, then we did our job. The casual viewer of this video should never attempt to move a piano by themselves. Unless you have the training, education, and experience, you should never move a piano. Always hire a professional!
Thanks, you made that look.so easy!
No problem at all! After a few tries, you'll make it look this easy.
Love the video. You just have to stop using those darn swivel dollies lol, too dangerous. And if you used a stationary wheel dolly which is much safer, you can also tip the piano down on its legs leaving it on the dolly which will put a lot less stress on the lyer and the end leg.
Thanks for watching the video. We've had this dolly conversation before. Fixed dollies are hard to work with and difficult to maneuver. That becomes even more pronounced when working in tight areas. Swivel dollies are not dangerous at all, and they make the piano move easier on the movers. It doesn't matter what kind of equipment is used, Movers must be trained to use their equipment properly and safely. You can even tip the piano onto swivel dollies as you suggested with the fixed dolly. Regardless of the dolly used, we find that technique to be extremely dangerous and only to be used when absolutely necessary. We've been moving pianos since 1936 and have cultivated our moving techniques over many years of experience. Everything from the equipment we use to the techniques we employ are tried and true methods of piano moving that have stood the test of time.
Dish pack usually on first floors. Just use ramps for stairs and 2 wheeler with a high pistol grip dolly and take 3 dish packs in per trip.
That might work out west or in coastal regions but, in the north east most homes are not built on level ground. Quite often we will have a flight of stairs to get to the home. You would need to bring several sets of 16ft walk boards if we did what you are suggesting. We almost never use 2 wheelers because they end up slowing us down.
@@StumpfMovingandStorage I stand corrected, you are right.
How often do I have to train in the gym before I can perform like you?
Don't worry about the gym, work at a moving company for a few years and you'll get the muscle needed! 💪😂
Greatest channel ever. Most useful youtube ive watched
Thank you Matthew! That really means a lot to us. Is there any topic that you would like to see a video cover?
@@StumpfMovingandStorage you may already have it, but how do you secure loads in a moving truck that don't fill the entire space? Also, is there an ideal number of people/different, specific roles you see on moving teams?
I haven't covered those topics yet. I'll get working on those videos soon for you! 🤙
Great advise. Thank you.
No problem! Glad we could help!
Love this video & what a beautiful job!!! 💕🎼💕
Thank you very much! 🙏
I was concerned I wouldn't be able to take my piano with me, but my faith has been restored!!!! Awesome job
I'm glad we could put your mind at ease!
Nice work as always!
Thank you! 🙏
Man I wanted to see how your skid touches the ramp, but you cut it on both parts of the video. I have the necessity of moving my 6ft piano, and I am making my own skid. I also wanted to make my own cart dolly, but I wanted to make it larger until I remember about the ramp. If you can give some advise about how to maneuver the ramp part. Since the angle would touché the skid. Thanks man.
We never recommend moving a piano by yourself. Always hire professionals! To answer your question, our ramps are long enough so the piano board does not catch or drag. If we come into a situation where the board might catch, we lift slightly at that point to avoid any dragging. We call the dragging, "cheese grating". 🧀😂
Do I own a Piano? No. Do I live on the third floor? Also no. Do I know why RUclips recommended this video? Definitely not. But here I am in the first 100 views.
We're glad you are one of the first 100 views! Thanks for watching! We hope you enjoyed the video. 😄
Does the piano board not mess up the stairs when you slide it down them?
It's hard to see in this video, but these are industrial stairs. These stairs are built to withstand much more than a piano board. We had a layer of wax to counteract friction, preventing any damage. With a layer of wax the board is able to slide freely. The wax also prevents any damage to these industrial stairs. If we're moving a piano in a home with hardwood stairs, nice carpeting or, a runner we would use floor coverings. It's important to do your due diligence and check the floors for previous damage prior to moving a piano. If you need any floor coverings, use them as needed when needed.
@@StumpfMovingandStorage Thanks for that information! If doing it in a home with hardwood stairs or nice carpeting, what do you use to protect them?
When it comes to hardwoods, we will double up on our moving pads. With carpet we could typically use rug runners or burlap pads. We want to take extra special care of any hardwoods.
@@StumpfMovingandStorage Thanks! Have you ever used neoprene floor runners? I would think that the board would get caught on them.
Great question! We use neoprene floor covers when rolling the piano across flat surfaces. For steps, we use the floor covers that are cloth, similar to drop cloths.
one of the better games of tetris played. There was a Ukrainian mover with a similar packing vid that migrated to US, my gf commented that he played a good game of tetris but she was down voted and panned for being racist.
I appreciate that! We take pride in our packing and loading ability. Thank you for watching.
Nice move.👍
Thank you! 🙏
Thank you for making this series available, with links to tools and all - excellent work!
We're very happy to help people learn. If you're interested, we have many more moving videos on our channel. Check them out and let us know what you think!
i like 😁Tetris!
Real life Tetris is the best!
Hernias suck I paid $20 for a small block and tackle from craigslist that makes this kind of move much, much easier.
The point of this video was to show how difficult piano moving is, so that people understand the need for professional piano movers. This is not a tutorial.
Enjoy and appreciate the well done videos. Subscribed and Liked to all I have viewed. Moving 2000 miles and have question about recliner chairs and sofa, since they can open. Thanks
Thanks for watching our videos. What can we do to assist, or at least answer your question?
very well explained
Thanks for the positive feedback, we really appreciate it.
Nice video! Do you have a link to the plastic spacers you show at 3:43? 🤙🏼
Those are not plastic spacers. Those are plastic items the shipper (home owner) wanted moved with his belongings. If you need to create a spacer, utilize the "hot dog" method we talk about. Roll up a moving pad to create a spacer. I explain how in the video.
I know moving a piano isn't easy, but you guys really do make it look easy!
Another great video. You guys make it look too easy!
They really do!
Thanks for watching Jesse, we appreciate the kind words.
Amazing endeavour .respect wow scary though phew
It was much easier than it looks. 😊
@@StumpfMovingandStorage Laurel and Hardy moved a piano up five flights of stairs in “The Music Box” its on youtube
Impressive! Did that do any damage to the piano board?
Thank you! Waxing the piano board helps reduce friction and makes it easier to push the piano up stairs. It also reduces any damage to the piano board. So, aside from any normal wear and tear, the piano board is absolutely fine. Keep in mind, piano boards are built for moving pianos up and down stairs. We use our piano boards for moves like this all the time, and they hold up for several years before needing to be retired.
Really helpful, thanks!
No problem at all. We're happy to help! 😊
The fact that you used the word 'chowder' shows that you are indeed a highly trained professional, and old-school too!
I really appreciate that! I'm very happy to say that I grew up in this industry. With years of experience and knowledge passed down to me from the generations of movers who came before me, I want to teach people coming into the industry the correct way to move.
Dude in the cream pants is killing it!
That person's a dick for ordering a piano with stairs like that lmfao!
Hopefully you all got a good tip
I’ve seen a bar for a house made out of an old piano
We see those from time to time. They're really cool and an awesome talking piece.
I was a mover for seven years, and that was the simplest move I've seen for a grand piano. Simply beautiful. Well done, guys.
Thank you very much!
Thank you!!!
No problem what so ever! We love teaching these techniques.
Thank you!!!😊
You are so welcome! 🤗
How about if you have a big standing lamp?
This is exactly how you would do a large standing lamp. I'm not sure how much bigger your lamp is, but you can compensate by using an extra pad if necessary.
PIVOT!!!
Friends, classic. 👌
respect ,no easy feat and needs a pro
Absolutely right! Thank you.
@@StumpfMovingandStorage People should know moving a piano is highly professional task, only professionals should attempt imo. Here in uk some windows are removed with supporting joists and cranes to elevate grand pianos etc to second floor etc .Phew only use professionals to move a piano I say
@@Jack-fs2im we also use cranes to get pianos into difficult locations. We have a video on the channel that shows us removing a Steinway Model D from a fourth-floor apartment window with help from a crane. You might also be suppressed to know that more people than you would think use professional piano movers. At least they do where we are located.
@@StumpfMovingandStorage will deff seek out yr vid of a craned piano. Its absolutely a specialist job.I am a piano player and they got mine around a very tight corner in my house Respect to them. The Laurel and Hardy piano moving is I still funny and a warning to use the pro,s .
@@Jack-fs2im This is the video where we us a crane: ruclips.net/video/wPcT2M8hNDI/видео.html
I wouldn’t say easily but you certainly did it
This is about as easy as it gets for this type of piano move. The training and experience our professional piano movers have made this move possible. The home owner told us, several other "piano movers" in our area turn this job down once they saw the steps. We are the only piano movers in our region who can tackle an extremely difficult piano move such as this one. It all comes down to training, education, and experience.
brillant
Thank you! 😊
