  • A Day in the Life of a Piano Mover - How to Move a Grand Piano from One Place to Another!
In this video the Stumpf Moving & Storage piano moving crew takes you along with them as they deliver a concert grand piano to the Carnegie Music Hall of Homestead, PA. This is one of the most difficult stages that our piano crew delivers pianos to. This delivery is made difficult because of an extremely tall loading dock, and the loading dock does not have a ramp that will fit this very large piano. Watch as our professional piano movers navigate this difficult location to easily deliver this concert grand piano. Please do not try this at home. This is not an easy task and should only be performed by trained professional piano movers.
This video was created by the professionals at Stumpf Moving and Storage to shed light on the moving industry. Please hit that like button for us, and don't forget to subscribe to our channel for more moving tips!

Can you explain why the dolly was left under the piano during transport?
Don't this voidthe reason for the piano bord?

The piano board is used to assist with the moving process, and also to make sure that the lid of the piano is safe from damage. Leaving the piano on the dolly during transport has nothing to do with the use of a piano board.
We do not recommend leaving a piano on the dolly unless you have air ride equip trucks. Spring ride trucks could possibly bounce the piano around if it's on a dolly during transport, even when strapped to the wall. This movement can pull the piano away from the wall of the truck and cause damage. In that case it's better to remove the dolly and place the board directly on the floor of the truck before strapping it to the wall.

Love the video. You just have to stop using those darn swivel dollies lol, too dangerous. And if you used a stationary wheel dolly which is much safer, you can also tip the piano down on its legs leaving it on the dolly which will put a lot less stress on the lyer and the end leg.

Thanks for watching the video. We've had this dolly conversation before. Fixed dollies are hard to work with and difficult to maneuver. That becomes even more pronounced when working in tight areas. Swivel dollies are not dangerous at all, and they make the piano move easier on the movers. It doesn't matter what kind of equipment is used, Movers must be trained to use their equipment properly and safely.
You can even tip the piano onto swivel dollies as you suggested with the fixed dolly. Regardless of the dolly used, we find that technique to be extremely dangerous and only to be used when absolutely necessary.
We've been moving pianos since 1936 and have cultivated our moving techniques over many years of experience. Everything from the equipment we use to the techniques we employ are tried and true methods of piano moving that have stood the test of time.
