Day 3 we head from Captains to lake Burrinjuck (Burrinjuck Waters Holiday Park), where Steve decided to shout the team a cabin instead of staying in tents, for what threatened to be a stormy night. Note: Pack weight! To be fair to Caroline, part of her extra weight wasn't just batteries and chargers etc, but I asked her to carry a waterproof housing for her camera which wasn't even needed in th...

Before the fires of 2019 devastated the area, and before the Bibbulmun, we took on the Hume and Hovell track in NSW, running 450 KM from Yass to Albury on the Victorian border. For week 1 we were joined by Johan Augustin, a travel writer. Day 1 and 2 has us leaving the start at Cooma cottage without packs, staying in Yass for the night and then heading to the first camp at Captains. Note: This ...

Along with the sharp drop in temperature and having to navigate most of the way over flooded terrain, we decided it wasn't safe to continue.

Part 1 - Kiandra to Broken Dam Hut. Just after lockdown lifted for Sydney in October 2021 we headed out to walk from Kiandra to Kosciuszko in the Snowy Mountains, a 120km trip that would take us through some of Australia's most scenic alpine terrain.

How to layer Clothing when Hiking (stay warm at night)
This is the third rewatch I’ve done. It has become one of my comfort shows. I really am surprised none of the TV networks have picked this up, the production value and effort put in is amazing. I’m planning to start doing sections of the Bib as my fitness improves.
Wait did Nancy raid your stash then bail on you?😂
Can you please post a video about what you used on your trek. Food, camping gear, hiking gear, etc. I watched the whole series and left a like on every video :)
Thank you! Yes, this has been a common request. Caroline is away right now for a few weeks, but when she's back we'll look at creating gear videos.
I've just watched through the whole series. I wish more people would have left likes on your videos as they were great. I'm wondering if you could please do a video on your pack list, what you used and how you found the items for usefulnes or things you might change?
Thank you so much! Caroline is away right now for a few weeks, but when she's back we'll look at creating gear videos as it's a common request.
@GreatWalksoftheWorld thanks heaps. I weigh 220kgs and this video series has inspired me to get out walking and one day do the track, just like she did 😁
Lovely final vlog.what i observe as a follower of you on this walk is that you have become Australuan -yeah,truly.The slowing of your speech, the colour in your sun beaten face, the hat (no corks tho 😅) and the Aussie twang in your now non scandinavian accent.Welcome Sheila, goodday😅
Hey Caroline! I’ve been enjoying your journey although it’s already happened. I wanted to ask if you do a video or comment on your gear list? 🤗
26:30 instantly made me cry with you x
I love that you’re real and raw even the swearing it shows your emotions and how much it all means to you ❤ thank you for being your authentic self 🫶🏽 don’t ever change.
Thank you both for your excellent footage and views of the Bibbulmun. I can only hope to one day walk it end to end but until then I will continue watching your amazing journey ❤ God bless you both!
13:05 what are these blister band aids you are using? 😊
6:31 What app is this?? ❤
Legendary performance and fantastic video series, thanks for sharing!
This video is one of the most informative videos I’ve seen of the Bib! Thank you!! 🙏🏽What an incredible series and beautifully done ❤️ You should be incredibly proud 👏🏽
Thank you so much for this video..... I cried a lot watching what you went through good and bad and the stresses and emotions of being alone etc..... I plan on doing Perth to Albany when my fitness levels are better as Iam 55 and have emphysema..... 😢 But I want to prove to myself that I can do this trek..... Just need to learn the basics of trekking etc..... I need to get alone with God and nature and rediscover myself and who I really am..... God bless you in your future adventures trekking..... Going to miss seeing and hearing you now..... 😢😢😢 Loved every minute of it..... Take care. Jason from Perth
Great series. We watched every episode over a few days. Intested to know what walking boots you have? And did you take spares?
So enjoying your videos. Thank you for making and sharing! ☺️
Cant wait for the updates. Really great videos. You going up a hill is me fr
Beautiful video!
I almost cried when you finished the track, thank you so much for sharing, I start mine for the second time early march, 2 day's in I will be 78, never growing old to be out there, loved your experience, good on you..❤
That's the great thing about this walk, it really is for everyone. I hope you enjoyed your second walk. We're keen to get back out there ourselves.
@@GreatWalksoftheWorld wonderful that you have taken the time to reply, thank you so much, yes I did start back on the track in early March this year, I had finished eternal late 2019 and wanted to do again, unfortunately I got covid on my flight from Queensland to Perth unknown to me, I only got to Pemberton this time on my second eye, will try again next year..
Word correct.. not eternal or eye.. that's end to end.. sorry I didn't read my reply before sending..
I have done the walk on the main range and it is probably the hardest thing I have ever had to do like ever.
Yes, even in ideal conditions it's a challenge. It needs to either be dry or covered in snow, but for us it was a deep, boggy swamp. The conditions were too severe to cover the distances planned.
the pipe you found with water coming out of it near grey mare hut probably the nicest tasting water I have ever had in my life if anyone looking at this comment section reads this you will not regret drinking that water it is insane.
Unfortunate you can’t take your best mate with unlike the most of the world. That’s why I don’t do it there are other alternatives.
Please never remove this series from RUclips. I hope your walking buddy gave you a Great big hug outside Schafer when the emotional tidal wave swamped you ....
Will you be doing more hikes? I love your videos, they are so chill and relaxing. I’m using your Bibbulum Track ones to plan my own journey.
Steve just did the the fife coastal trail in Scotland and we'll also finish the h and h series. There will hopefully be more to come.
Thank you for your amazing videos! do you mind if I ask what size your osprey pack was? 80L?
It's a 65. It looks deceptively large because of its curved design.
@GreatWalksoftheWorld thanks! I did buy that size but it looks so much smaller!
I felt for you, I think day two is always the hardest on any hike. I could see you struggling as you walked. It would of been tough walking on those roads and so much better finally hitting a walking trail. Hike your own hike 💕
Thank you Deb, there's nothing better than escaping the built world and delving into nature. It's always worth the wait.
Wow, I haven't seen you since the Bibbulmun. I recognised your voice before I recognised you. You've lost a ship load of weight. FFS sake if you're walking on the road walk facing the traffic.
Oh, I'm not sure if I liked the look of day one and two 🤔 lots of road walking. I'm glad you are back doing the videos again 😊
To be honest, it's awful. We did it to show the whole track, but many people skip it and start at Wee Jasper or Fitzpatrick Trailhead. The walk to Tumut is nice, and then it's mainly bush tracks and fire trail until a day out from Albury where it's road again.
@GreatWalksoftheWorld so glad you showed this section, thank you for doing it.
Until I became a long distance hiker I never thought I would be able to watch one video, never mind a series on the subject. I have watched plenty in my time now and I rate this series the best I have seen. Everyone involved clearly put a lot of effort into the series and it shows. The drama, tedium, elation, lows and highs, were all captured in a most natural way that articulate clearly what a long distance hike is really like. Special shout out to the cinematography, the editing, and my favourite, the music, which must have been selected with great care. I just loved everything about this series and just want to say thanks for giving me so much joy in my downtime as I prepare for the next big hike.
That means a lot, as we did put a lot of time and effort into this particular series. Thank you and glad you liked it.
What about doing the Heysen trail in south Australia that goes through the flinders rangers, that would be great to watch
Would love to but at the moment it's finding the time.
Oh yes I would love to see you do this one as well.
there is nothing better than sitting around a camp fire after a lovely days walk.
Hi Caroline, great to see you on another Oz hike! I haven't watched the rest of this trail's vids to see what you thought of this trail yet, but I have to say The Hume and Hovell is my LEAST favorite backpacking trail in Australia. Wait, strike that. I REALLY hated this trail! It started nice enough, but then it just became a series of dreary, pointless, boring road walks. For reference, and just in case someone reading this comment is looking for some hiking ideas for Australia, here is the Australian trails part of my CV, from favorite to a bit less favorite. Bibbulmun, Larapinta, The Great North Walk, The Great South West Walk, Six Foot Track, Cape to Cape. The H&H Walk is all alone on my "Don't waste your time on this trail list".
Hey! Thanks for sharing. I will be honest - H&H was not my favourite trail either. But, it really toughened me up - it was my first ever proper long distance hike. I gained so much physical and mental strength and resilience. H&H got me fully prepared for the successful completion of the Bibbulmun Track (and the unexpected emergency there too!)
Gotta love trail magic!🙌
Great to see you out on the trail again guys! Caroline, your pack looks so heavy!!😳 Well done though, 32km day 2 would hurt me too.
Thank you! And yes it was soooo heavy. Yeah anything over 20km starts to get super tough - it's mainly all the hours in a day spent carrying a heavy load! But what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger, right?!
Caroline might have been wiped out by this day but it looks like it picked up in scenic quality at least. Some of those earlier days with the bleak logging and road walking did not make the Hume and Hovell look like a very interesting walk at all (had a bit of a laugh at how dispiriting it must've been to arrive at that shelter destroyed by fallen trees), but this shows a lot more promise. Looking forward to seeing weeks 2 and 3 when they are out!
Yeah. And the hard truth of the h and h is that week 2 and 3 are the best. Also the last day of week 1 which ironically I haven't got an output of so will need to re-edit. The start is pretty blurgh and only for completionists.
Hi Steve and Caroline so glad to see your faces again 😊 much love
Hey mate, nice to hear from you. Hope all is well and you've had some more adventures.
Woohoo❤
great to see a new series on youtube, i have missed you.
Caroline makes a great video. I’ve got a mate Steve who does these kind of walks and I’m always encouraging him to start a RUclips channel to share them.
Yeah they should do it. Share adventures and encourage people to hike.
Are you serious!?!?!???
About?
Totally agree I was so disappointed after the awesome content and scenery of the other series. Gave up watching 😮
@jeffsparkes1517 Fair enough. It's rough and not the greatest, that's why it was parked for a while. We shot this before the Bibb series. But hopefully some people will enjoy and get a sense of what the track was like.
Do you want a refund you sound like you had to pay to watch it and didnt get your moneys worth ,she went to the trouble of doing the videos for free for the public to enjoy, lm sure its not easy .anyway l enjoyed it, but yes the bibblmun was probably the best.
@@GreatWalksoftheWorld that you’re back making more amazing content!!! Is this a dream???
WOO! Just yesterday I was rewatching your Kiandra to Kosciuszko videos as I prepare for my own attempt this Summer (fire gods willing) and was lamenting a lack of new Great Walks of the World videos. I thought the worst when I realised your website was gone too, so I'm very glad to see this episode. I am a repeat viewer of your Bibb series (to me, the gold standard for RUclips hiking series) and y'all were a big inspiration for my own switch from blogging to video making on RUclips! Glad to see you back!
Covid kind of killed us. We had to cancel a bunch of planned trips and then new commitments made it hard to restart. Thanks for the support. We're gearing back up again, and Steve will soon be going overseas for a hike to finally make it international.
@@GreatWalksoftheWorld I hear you, and totally understandable. I had grand plans and momentum with my hiking and blogging that was completely killed, and both of my big interstates trips when things were looking better were cancelled just days before departure thanks to first the Delta wave and then Omicron. And then I had new commitments as a father than have meant some of those plans are now pushed into the distance future. Oh well. Looking forward to seeing your future adventures, but also glad that I now have a stack of new GWotW content to binge in the short term at least :)
@@thelongwaysbetter HnH was something we shot before the bib and it's a bit rough. Certainly not the polish of the Bib. Hopefully I can edit weeks 2 and 3 soon, as the filming got better as we went. Shame about your trips, but congrats on the bub. :) A future hiking companion no doubt
Woohooo!!! Been dying for the next adventure! I keep rewatching your Bibbulmun series in anticipation of my own E2E starting, looking forward to the Hume & Hovell series
We hope you have an amazing time. I only have week 1 as a rough cut but thought it was being wasted hidden away. I'll try and get the rest cut soon.
@@GreatWalksoftheWorld thank you so much! Hoping to kick off April 1st and be mid way by my Birthday on the 15th 🤞🤞 Still watch your Bibb series on almost a weekly basis, absolutely love it! Really enjoyed the H & H series also
Wait! Did you say water creeks? Lucky you, I only ever stumble across the lemonade creeks….
I recognise that ''happy place'' most hikers are in when doing what they love best. Loving this series.
Thanks for this inspirational journey, I am new to hiking and really want to complete the Bibblumun, would you share where you posted things to, I see you collect packages in each town… hiw did you know how much to send, lol there is alot of planning for a newbie
Yes, walk the track. It's amazing and anyone can do it. We posted to our pre-booked accommodation, and contacted them as a courtesy. You can also send to some visitors centres. How much to send depends on what type of food you eat and how much you plan to buy in town (some towns have more than others, while some have nothing), and how many days each section will take. It does take a fair bit of planning to be prepared. Others just wing it. Best advice is to contact the Bibbulmun track foundation for their advice, or jump on the facebook pages.
Bright Sky @brysakai
I'm taking an umbrella.
Wise choice. So much better most rainy days. Even in camp.
Can really notice how your fitness has improved over the first 500km.
Nicely done. I enjoyed your Bibb series. The "why long distance hiking" is a discussion that pops up with some frequency and it's not a simple question to answer well. So many aspects to it.
The reason can be very different for everyone and hard to explain. I think there's a saying that goes: if you need to explain why you do it then they won't understand the answer.
I love a good tree hug ❤
May I ask what hat you are wearing? Really enjoying episode 1!
Thank you! This was a really tough walk with an unexpected ending.... Everyone asks about this hat! It's a North Face one I bought at a local camping story in Queenstown (NZ)! I lucked out with it, have used it for years now :)
