Still not as good a singing voice as Shirley Jones, but quite good. The thing that gets me, though, is her quacking duck speaking voice, a curse of modern women who grow up talking the way they hear others speak....how do we ever get back to when women cultivated nicely modulated speaking voices with sparkling, bell like laughter as well.

Say what you will about Mathew's Hill, but I adore Kristin's Marian. She plays her a lot stronger and less uptight than most versions - she doesn't need Harold Hill to bring her out of her shell, she'll come out on her own when he shows he's worthy.
Case in point - 1:09 - the way she says "Good" so casually instead of shouting it while glaring the way Shirley Jones did? Makes it a much sicker burn.

Kinda amazing someone like Kristin, who people normally refer to only for her assets (if you know what i mean), being shown in such a fantastic light.
people often overlook real talent for these reasons, and this is a solid reminder that looks really aren't everything.

i have to say, i like the 1962 version of "Goodnight, My Someone" a bit better than this one, simply because I like the moment between Marion and Amaryllis better than Kristen Chenoweth's somewhat pining attitude at the end of this version. She still put over the number beautifully though!

I still like the 1962 big-screen version (Warner Bros. filmed it) better than the 2003 TV-movie remake (Disney cooked it up). Even so, I thought the remake beat the original in only one place: I liked Megan Moniz' portrayal of Amaryllis better than the one Monique Vermont did in '62. (And I agree that they should've let Moniz sing alongside Kristin Chenoweth.)
