The melody is actually "76 Trombones" in 3/4 time. Marian does not know it but she and Harold are made for each other. Meredith Wilson was a genius.
Lovely to see the old shows like "The Music Man" and "South Pacific" and "Cinderella" appreciated again...
Would love to see Laura in the lead role in Music Man. The dream show for her talents. So lovely always.

My mom sang this to me every single night when I was a little kid. I just remembered I used to make up harmonies to sing with her. Wild. Hanks for the trip down memory lane. This song is so special to me and I’m sure to many others. Brava as always, Laura 💕
Marian is Laura's dream role. Nothing seems to keep her down for long, even the death of her mother, but it had to hurt to see 44 year old Sutton Foster get the coveted role with Hugh Jackman. She and Sutton are friends - both in Anything Goes - and she will wish the best for Sutton. I have a video you could easily find of Laura and Tony Yazbeck performing 'Til There Was You at one of their recent joint appearances at 54 Below.
I agree Laura at 37 should have played Marian instead of Sutton Foster. Meredith Willson composed the role for Barbara Cook so he wanted a soprano for the role because Marian is a teacher and a librarian and its diferent from the other people of the town .Sutton is a belter and a dancer not the Marian the composer wanted a soprano who could dance as was Barbara Cook and is Laura Osnes. i wish Laura replaced Sutton in the role

Of course Sutton is the wrong actress and singer for the role.Meredith Willson wanted a soprano who could dance as was Barbara Cook not a belter and dancer as Sutton. If he had wanted a dancer and belter he had cast Gwen Verdon instead. Laura Osnes would have been.perfect in.the role.Of course she should have vacinated or give the role to Laura Benanti never to Sutton Foster.

I really love this but I just have one one teensy weensy little note. I think this song is meant to give you the feeling of a mom singing a lullaby to their child. Soft and quiet and relaxing. I think that the pianist (who was incredible) was playing nicely...but I really felt that it should have been slower and calmer during the melody lines
A lullaby? Nope, it's a lovely and wistful expression of love wished for. And she is expressing it with passion.
I wish was she performing at CDT(she knows what I mean)
