Oil can easier be washed away by water than grease. When someone wants to have a louder hub, they can use only oil on the pawls to achieve it, but it comes with a disadvantage which can lead to a possible damage.
I need to send you my monstrosity to review for next bike talk - also thanks for the heads up my cruiser has a free hub that doesn’t roll properly or sound good
I'm so frightened of loose bearings! It's like my kryptonite I can never get em back in right. Of course, I've only done it once and I didn't have Grease.
I like this method of flushing. Ive rebuilt a few freehubs with new bearings and its a chore😢
@@steelisreal4313 ya I think full rebuild would give you the best results but sometimes a quick flush out ain’t bad either !
what is the spray you used to clean the bearing?
wd40 first then detergent to degrease it , check out the full video for more detail, cheers
I know a lot of folks say you should use a lighter grease/oil for the freehub, have you had any issues with using regular grease?
ive had no issues but yeah thats true, i just use what i have. i think the grease/oil is meant to be high heat resistant too
mix grease and oil for a lighter grease maybe
You use oil or light grease on the springs and pawls. You can use normal/ thicker grease on the bearings.
