Full Story:
So Nirvana were on a short two week tour with Sonic Youth with this Rotterdam show being the last. Also playing the venue that night were the Smashing Pumpkins who were playing the main stage. Upon arrival when Nirvana heard that news they were a bit pissed they were getting the bingo hall. So they decided to up their antics before even heading on stage. During the tour there was loads of partying and drinking so they continued. Kurt even did a bunch of shrooms backstage(I'm not sure about Dave and Krist it wasn't confirmed but they were definitely drinking heavily). The guy who did The Year Punk Broke documentary followed the bands on tour and upon arrival Krist warned him "Kurt's like flying on shrooms man" to which they walked in the dressing room to see Kurt in a doctor's coat and short pants standing on a table ranting about God knows what.
Anyways time for the show. Kurt was so high roadies had to guide him stage. The band had a problem at the beginning because they were so wasted they completely forgot the set list. Kurt just started with Polly and they just went with it from there. Throughout the show Kurt would have constant guitar troubles. His guitar kept cutting out randomly even mid song. As the time goes on Kurt gets more and more frustrated. He even checks to see if it's his pedal by repeatedly turning it on and off just before In Bloom. Finally during Negative Creep his guitar craps out again and Kurt gave up. As you see in the clip he trashes everything mid song and the rest of the band abandons the song as well. While Kurt is trashing the drums and Krist drunkenly arguing/fighting with staff Dave went to the mic and repeatedly thanked the audience in a sarcastic over the top voice.
Needless to say the promoters and staff were highly pissed and banned them from ever coming back. They even sent them a hefty bill for the damages

I was a bit too young to be able to see Nirvana live, as Kurt passed just a month before I turned 11, but damn I miss the 90's and both the grunge and industrial scene. I still go to shows but they aren't nearly as raw and wild as they were in the 90's:(
The 90's was an awesome time for music. Never saw Nirvana but tons of other bands in the early 90's and your right....there is no comparison. The 90's was like times teenage angst years.
Best shows of that time that I got to experience was Ministry and Skinny Puppy.

I think this was like him having a nervous breakdown after constant touring. I think Nervermind was just about to be released so it probably just felt like so much work and so much hype that it just sort of felt like fruitless efforts. Everyone wants to paint him as this artist who didn’t care about money, but I mean at the end of the day when you work hard at something, especially recording rigorously and then jumping into a world tour, it takes its toll especially when you haven’t seen the end result.

There’s one Nirvana video where a chap jumps up on stage and just gets down on his hands and knees and just starts poundin the stage with his fists.
There was a lot of pent up energy from young people having to conform and be quiet and be “model Youths” and ignore all the shit being overlooked.
Us young people at the time where either looking through rose coloured lenses and had their heads in La La land or then there where the ones like us waring flannel shirts and torn jeans and not hiding the fact that we knew the world was “plastic fantastic” so many could see the line being drawn between two spectrums the ones who where to jaded to see the truth and the ones like us that knew there where things going on.
That’s why so many of us where drawn to the unexplained and mysterious because there was a higher sense in us which told us that there where things going on behind the scenes but they had it perfect the youth where to young for people to take seriously and even if they did we had little ability to find the true explanation to what was going on.
Then the adults where to busy fighting to stay afloat in a modern world.
Those high up where being mislead and used and controlled by money.
It was a weird time that could have only ever been experienced at that time and place in the universe and will never be experienced again!!
Thankful my years where spent in much of this time!!

I must have seen the only "Normal" Nirvana show. They played the entire set like a Normal band. Kurt didn't stage dive once. Totally uneventful.
