Kurt knew that punk is not always being mindful of perfect pitch and perfection. It's about spitting it out and speaking your mind and rocking like it's your last day... Joan Jett knows the same. Good job Goddess
Kurt empathised with womens struggle for equality and he admired female punk rock performers hence his wife etc. This is a pretty tasteful tribute. What do the haters expect anyways???
Ironically, Kurt Cobain would have been the first to say this performance was terrible and they needed to do better if they wanted to make it in Rock and Roll.
They expect Talent and a capable artist. Not an " I'll make it my own" egotistical Instagram loving singer going for followers. Stevie Nicks would've done better.
For all the people who all calling the singer's shit, just appreciate the performance for what it is. In my personal opinion its amazing cause its rock history
Well, i'm 8 yrs late to this video lol, but it's important to underline that this seemed to be a tribute to Kurt from the perspective of women rockstars. And as such, sung as they do/did in their respective bands. So in that regard, it's expected that they sing the songs in a way that's not necessarily imitating Kurt's voice . And in that regard, it's something i really approve of. Especially considering that it's a good way to make female fans feel represented. By the way, i wasn't expecting Aneurysm here, it's such a "radio unfriendly" song 😆
Pretty sure that Kurt would have loved Kim's singing here, and the fact that they were friends makes this meaningful to watch. Sonic Youth helped Nirvana get their first big break with DGC and took them out on tour. They were kindred spirits. Kim clearly channelled Kurt's weirder, confrontational side that can be heard on songs like Negative Creep, Beeswax, Hairspray Queen and Tourette's. If you don't appreciate this, you really don't get Nirvana.
@@kevindunn2663 yeah but on the other hand I'm sure Avenged Sevenfold Korn exedra could have also played at the tribute show, they picked nothing but these chicks
Kinda twisted but I love hearing that pain from Dave in the drums at the start of “Smells like teen spirit”. He just starts soo angry and it feels so much like a revival of that nirvana sound
People don't understand..this tribute is not about singing like Kurt.. it's about celebrating his life and enjoying his music in your own way and he would've been proud to see all these women doing the honor!!! Kurt Forever❤️
exactly well said thts wht I'm telling all the lame ass ignorant comments.. tht doesn't sound like Curt.. WTF u idiot? sheeple will be sheeple in a obliviated world
All these people complaining about the performances, even though Kurt would have been probably loving it all. I mean Joan Jett? Kim Gordon? These women were icons to Kurt (and really any punk fans). Yeah the choice of Lorde is maybe a bit odd, but still it feels in keeping with what they were trying to do.
Back in the day I'd agree... today, 25 years later? Everyone has a use by date and everyone but Lorde has long passed theirs. Though Lorde shouldn't have ever been in the mix anyway.
I can’t believe I hadn’t seen this, but the comment section is so negative. You can’t expect it to be an exact replica of Kurt. Everyone has different singing styles. I think they did well, specially Joan since she has that raspy style of singing.
@@ericapolinario2178 so why? I think the band “love buzzers” is better for this performance than these woman. I don’t hate women, but “love buzzers” sounds like nirvana. Nirvana Reunion Show! Shaun Morgan from Seether on Vocals and Guitar Krist on Bass, Pat on 2nd guitar and Dave Grohl on Drums! Make it happen Krist & Dave please!!!!
i think chris & dave arranged this night exactly as kurt would've agreed on had they used a ouija board. only female singers, and only in their own styles. you might not like it, but i bet he digs that
No he wouldn't have agreed with these old crows who crapped all over his songs.. I think Dave and Kriss didn't get on with Kurt near the end so they must have done this deliberately..
@@dfstarborn you've got some issues. You've posted the same nonsense on a number of comments. Makes me wonder if you are even a Nirvana fan or if you're just a misogynistic fuck? I'm willing to bet Kurt would have loved these performances. The idea of covering a song is to do it in your way and not sound like the original. If all these ladies were trying to mimic Kurt then it would be karaoke and not covers.
I don't like it, but I appreciate what they did here. If people honestly came here and thought that the singers were going to emulate Kurt, then it's an insult to him
No slam on Kris or Dave, absolute stellar musicians - the entire world will agree, but the band was probably about top break up at the end there. There were some pretty serious differences. Kurt was not an easy person to get along with.
A lot of folks in here commenting about Cobain and how this tribute doesn't represent him must have missed the fact that he dug a Japanese pop girl band Shonen Knife. I don't think some of you have a clue what he would have liked.
Idk why y’all are complaining about these singers. If Krist and Dave are ok with it, then I am, because they know what Kurt would have wanted better than we do.

@@PedrosJheriCurl what if misogyny has nothing to do with it and it just so happens that they are female and we disliked their performances? I would be as appalled by these performances if they were men.
Does anybody in this comment section and thread who's bitching about the female singers, actually remember what Kurt Cobain sounded like live? He didn't sing his songs all pretty, he sang his songs in a very raw and punk way, with a bit of an exception on the MTV unplugged. These singer/musicians are the real deal.
@@EduardoDanielFerreira they aren't Kurt. There won't be any more Kurt shows. What they were doing was a tribute, not an impersonation. Kim Gordon's version of Aneurysm was inspired, though. Magnificent.

To all the folks with negative comments on this. Ya’ll are missing the point of this show. We were blessed to see this band playing together again. The absolute only thing that would have made it better would be if Kurt was there. These guys never do this. I’m thankful to see it.
I love the fact that they featured women for singing caz Kurt respected women so much in fact he understood the fact that how women suffered because how the society expect them to be.
Joan Jett!!!! And the way she shredded that EPIC riff straight into Grohl's massively EPIC thundering drums was just flawless! 2:54 Novoselic's gnarly fat bass sound glued to Grohl's kick pattern and contrasting Smears guitar twang, Pure ear candy!! 4:32
I usually don't leave comments or reply to comments... BUT REALLY?! You think Kurt would disapprove of these performances because they didn't sound like the old Nirvana? I think he would have been honored. For starters, Dave just said in the video that Nirvana had days where they would sound like the greatest band, and days where they sounded like shit. These women captured that. And Kurt being the feminist that he was would have loved all the off-key, quirky, crazy, uniqueness all these women brought to the stage. I thought it was perfect for being un-perfect. And that's all the hostility I will bring to this conversation, so don't bother.
Agreed! I thought all four performances were great. I actually like Lorde and I think she nailed "No Apologies". The only person who could sound like Kurt is Kurt. RIP Kurt Cobain--Nirvana still rocks!
you resumed the same thoughts I had watching this wonderful performance. Then... it's music... enjoy it... don't like it... don't listen to it... live in peace as they use to suggest!
To all the pissed people. Yes it isnt kurt singing with them. But thats what you all want is a kurt sound alike. No one realizes they picked woman so they wouldn't be compared to kurt or someone trying to do a kurt impression. And I think kurt would have been honored to know Joan Jett sang one of his songs.
Insert generic "Kurt was a feminist, he would've loved this" or "Kurt was a feminist, he would've hated you" comment here. People speak like they all knew him and just regurgitate the same sentence over and over again. What a joke. You CAN be a Nirvana fan and don't have to love all women, these women, or their tribute. It might not be the best, but it's a damn good tribute by these ladies. I watched this the night it was first aired. The only thing I would've changed about that night at the RRHOF tbh, is don't let Courtney up on stage.. at all.
Come on you know if he were alive today they would be as bad as the rolling Stones (post80s) , and Kurt would still be whining about being an overhyped rockstar cliche ,shooting junk for an upset stomach,
whats with everyone shitting on Joan's singing? its her own spin, shes not imitating Kurt's singing, you can tell immediately with Teen Spirit. I think she did it in a way Kurt would've approved.
RIGHT????? at least The Runaways should be!!! I'd love to think Kurt would LOVE the idea of Joan Jett singing his songs.......she was such a hero of his. I'd love to hear the rest of the Runaways cover Nirvana songs. :)
Just my two cents worth: Joan Jett did a good job of Smells Like Teen Spirit. I liked it and would've rocked to it had I been in the audience. Kim Gordon did an unusual rendition of Aneurysm....perhaps not her natural performance and possibly attempting to emulate Kurt? The third singer (sorry I cannot remember her name) did a commendable job of Lithium and sounded pretty good in my opinion. I thought Lourde butchered All Apologies unfortunately and sounded like a bad karaoke performance you'd find at a friend's party. In saying that, I personally loved seeing Dave, Krist and Pat playing together again. With 30 years of experience behind them now, I thought they sounded slick, polished and solid. It makes me wonder how awesome Nirvana would sound now if Kurt was still alive. It's all speculation of course but Kurt was a feminist and I think he would've been very pleased to see an all female lineup cover his songs too. Lastly, while there are obviously some real Nirvana fans in the crowd. There also appears to be a bunch there who don't seem to know what the fuck they're watching. I'd love to have been there even if just to see the remaining Nirvana members playing together again. That would've been awesome. Nirvana Forever.
@@thesoundlikechameleons2082 Kurt asked Pat to join the band during the In Utero tour and I'm pretty sure Kurt died at, or not long after, the end of the 6 months that Pat actually played with Nirvana. If you asked me, I'd say he was an official touring member of the band. 🤷♀️

Kurt empathised with womens struggle for equality and he admired female punk rock performers hence his wife etc. This is a pretty tasteful tribute. What do the haters expect anyways???
More energy.
A testament to how special Kurt was and how unique his voice was. No one can ever compare.
How have I never seen this? So cool to give appreciation to Kurt through female vocals. I'd like to think to he appreciated this.
Miss you, Kurt
Good to see Pat Smear still being part of the party. Such a legend, in and of himself
I'm guessing he's sober now right?? He was quite the drinker back in the day, I don't know if he did heroin though.
Aneurysm is by far my favorite nirvana song Kurt's voice and lyrics on it were amazing
No, it’s absolute garbage. Kurt is rolling in his grave after her performance

Pat Smear with the lead!!! Love it!
Nirvana was a awesome band, but their fans sucks...
@@ericapolinario2178 so why? I think the band “love buzzers” is better for this performance than these woman. I don’t hate women, but “love buzzers” sounds like nirvana. I think they sing well, but not like Kurt. But in this performance we need a person who sounds like Kurt. So, it’s “love buzzers”.
Nirvana Reunion Show!
Shaun Morgan from Seether on Vocals and Guitar

i think chris & dave arranged this night exactly as kurt would've agreed on had they used a ouija board. only female singers, and only in their own styles.
you might not like it, but i bet he digs that
No he wouldn't have agreed with these old crows who crapped all over his songs..
Man seeing Dave bang away on those drums again is just so fucking cool!
aneurysm actually sounded like someone who was having an aneurysm
I can just picture old Kurt there with old pat, krist and Dave 🥺 WE MISS YOU KURT
He was there for sure homie 🤟
A lot of folks in here commenting about Cobain and how this tribute doesn't represent him must have missed the fact that he dug a Japanese pop girl band Shonen Knife. I don't think some of you have a clue what he would have liked.
Idk why y’all are complaining about these singers. If Krist and Dave are ok with it, then I am, because they know what Kurt would have wanted better than we do.
Balling like a baby some 30 years later. Hoping anyone out there in need of a friend finds that friend today.kurt and this band and their music are perfect reasons to keep going.
🙏❤️🙏
I love when Dave starts up the drums he’s like ‘alright..one more time for kurt.’
All the basic dude bros hating on this performance is exactly who Kurt would want to be made uncomfortable. Ergo, fitting tribute.
Yes!!!
Glad someone got it
Thank you for saying this. All these misogynistic losers have no idea who Kurt Cobain was and what he stood for. Kurt would have loved this.
@@PedrosJheriCurl what if misogyny has nothing to do with it and it just so happens that they are female and we disliked their performances? I would be as appalled by these performances if they were men.
I think the performance should be judged on its merit. They all sucked. I don't give s shitl what you think Kurt would have thought.
Eduardo Ferreira Lol how was Kim Gordon was up there “singing pretty”?
crazy to see how hard it is to keep up with kurt’s crazy talent as a vocal performer
Not everyone knows that kurt hates misogyny, i like the idea for this tribute that anyone sings his song and represents as kurt are females.
a lot of people admire nirvana and kurt because of their image, when really they should be admired for the music and their ideologies

anyone who doesnt enjoy the female performances in this tribute doesnt understand nirvana at all. kurt was about openness and acceptance and self expression, not mimicking his talent or sounding like an american idol winner. this tribute is great. its silly and tragic, ridiculous, how all these negative comments show how nobody understood kurt at all. which we all know was very difficult for him.
his notes tell us that.
speaking for dead man u didnt know personally... shouldnt do that. kurt cobain sounded good... joan jet soubs like she smoked a pack too many. second chick had energy, bout it. blonde woman went through the motions and lorde did what she does, weird movements and adding deep masculine tones to her female voice naturally without a computer. amazing and accomplished woman just singing the wrong songs for their vocal abilities. dont claim to know what a dead man you didnt know personally would think or feel at an age of wisdom he deprived us all of. pull down your skirt, your ignorancecis showing.

+Rachel Wilson I thought it was good....

The only thing I would've changed about that night at the RRHOF tbh, is don't let Courtney up on stage.. at all.

whats with everyone shitting on Joan's singing? its her own spin, shes not imitating Kurt's singing, you can tell immediately with Teen Spirit. I think she did it in a way Kurt would've approved.

How is Joan Jett not in the rock and roll hall of Fame??
RIGHT????? at least The Runaways should be!!! I'd love to think Kurt would LOVE the idea of Joan Jett singing his songs.......she was such a hero of his. I'd love to hear the rest of the Runaways cover Nirvana songs. :)
She was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame in 2015
Just my two cents worth:
Joan Jett did a good job of Smells Like Teen Spirit.
