  • This is a mod I came up with to turn internal accessories on an off without mounting a switch or loosing a function of the radio's buttons. Its in a cobra 29 lxle but can work in any radio.

      I rewatched it and I figured out how it's done ...... ....I forgot about about this video , someone replied to my 1st comment with an emoji , I got a email saying somebody replied to my comment ..... BTW I did build a new workbench temporary until I convert the front foyer of my house into my new shop and office , found some some great test equipment on sale and built a few things myself , ordered a but load of parts , and I am open for bizness ......

    When my ignition switch broke on my aging Jeep, I made an ignition switch using the exact same method. I just place a magnet in the coin tray. Close the coin tray, and push a button. It really fascinates people the first they ride with me.

    I use to do that with a reed switch and no one could turn my computer on lol. The only way to turn it on was to hold a magnet over where i put the reed switch in the case, really messed with people's mind because they didn't know i had a magnet in my hand. Same principle he is using here.

    a pretty awesome idea . I never thought of that. as an auto mechanic I'm going to see if that will work for testing relay functions in automobiles without having to pull the relays ..

    • @williamellingsworth5731
      @williamellingsworth5731 7 лет назад

      it probably won't due to the proximity of the plate inside the relay but nevertheless an awesome idea for radio ..73 to you brother #104 Devon Pennsylvania

    magnetic switch, thats a great idea, you can use a little magnet instead of that knob so it will look cleaner, slide the magnet to the side to turn it off

    • @Hammerjockeyrepair
      @Hammerjockeyrepair 7 лет назад

      Why would you want to slide it off? Some people like to keep their radios scratch free! This makes it easy to pop off! We take care of them

    • @dr07828
      @dr07828  8 лет назад

      +Mike S Absolutly.. It will work for all sorts of things. It is simple off and on. When the magnet is near the read switch the circuit is closed. When it is not there it is open.

  • @148njheavychevy8
    @148njheavychevy8 8 лет назад

    That's a petty good idea, just don't loose the knob, if you're in a truck things tend to move quite a lot lol.

    • @dr07828
      @dr07828  8 лет назад

      originally I was going to use a chess peice but the knob was handy. it's a neodymium magnet so it doesn't move.

    hall effect switch in the radio and a magnet in the knob, but what if you eventually permanately magnitize the cover in that one spot, oh well time to start winding yourself an old fashioned degause coil i guess, lol

    • @dr07828
      @dr07828  7 лет назад

      roger mathers no. a pp1 is negitive triggered so connecting it to the cold side of the ppt will trigger it as soon as you key up the mic.

    or you could keep the knob in its place and place a thin black strip magnet on top

    • @dr07828
      @dr07828  9 лет назад +1

      No. That won't work. The magnet has to be very strong because of the thick metal casing on it. A normal strip mag would not do it. I had to use 2 neodinum magnets together and it just enough to trip it.

    my first thought was that you were having to use some force to move your knob on and off the radio. You are using a rare earth magnet. I am amazed that you tried so hard to show that the 3 different ways to key up the mod was showing that a simple metal knob would do this when in place. The reed switch is inside the radio and is what causes the key up noise when the magnet is in place. A better video would show what and where you did this mod. Keeping it your secret is very childish.

    • @donaldreiman1539
      @donaldreiman1539 8 лет назад +1

      actually your completely wrong. if you read the comments many people know how it is done. there is a reed switch right under the top cover. glued into the know is a neodinyum magnet which when put in the correct place turns on the pp1. so what you see is for real. and I have no clue what you mean by Allen wrench. ..

    • @Nosedive4130
      @Nosedive4130 8 лет назад +3

      *snicker* I was playing around. The Allen Wrench or Allen Key is the tool he used to short the two mic pins. (They are primarily used for loosening or tightening hex head bolts) There is absolutely no way you could mod an Allen Key of that size to make a sound like that, which is why I thought it was funny.
      Yes, I understand what a Reed Switch is and how they work. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

      +Donald Reiman
      The Allen wrench must be left in place in order to complete the Gamma Ramma Lamma Bee Bop match. Thus, the tuned circuit may employ capacitive reluctance, rather than Non-sinusoidial mode filtering techniques, which
      can cause phase shifting and side fumbling in the 27MHz range.

  • @3saturn04
    @3saturn04 9 лет назад

    Just ridiculous. Eventually will mar the cover with extended use. To easy to drop magnet knob between console and seat, etc. Look you have a dynamike, rf gain and delta tune control that can be replaced with controls that have dpdt push pull switch on them. Will not affect original control settings or functions. You can have noise toys, high/low power without extensive hidden menu access, channel crystal switched in or out, rx preamp, FM board, BFO, etc. Nothing to lose or mar radio. Original knobs also. Completely hidden.
