On third viewing this film still packs an emotional punch. It really tugs at the heart - a sober reminder of what was lost. An amazing achievement and well done to all those involved.
I feel like I know this story.... might of heard of it last time I was in war museum down south. A great short film nonetheless. It be really cool if you could make more war era films.
RS Productions Company of Four is an original story not based off real people in history just a general story following the events that happened for many young lads in 1915 in Crowborough
I think even though this is a new story that it's a story we have all in some way have heard or experienced. The widowed mother saying goodbye to her son is every mother's fear. Young men leaving not knowing if they will return. The comradery between the boys. All of these have happened before in every war. Pray for peace. Beautiful film! 👏👏👏
I'm catching up on this one, after my subscription following 'Toast' viewing. I'm afraid I am probably going to see things differently, to others here. Percy Toplis was vilified, as were others for trying to avoid WW1. Francis Percy Toplis (22 August 1896 - 6 June 1920) was a British criminal and imposter active during and after the First World War. Before the war he was IMPRISONED for attempted rape. During the war he served as a private in the Royal Army Medical Corps, but regularly posed as an officer while on leave, wearing a monocle. After the war he became notorious following the murder of a taxi driver and the wounding of a police officer who attempted to apprehend him. The manhunt was major news at the time. He was tracked down and killed in a gunfight with police. However it was acceptable for him to kill for the army 🤔 (It's exactly what putin is doing conscripting criminals) It was supposed to be the war, that ended all wars. (21 years later here's Hitler.) In my opinion WW1 was a carnage, in a few fields. Hardly a World War either. Most of the world wasn't in it. So my conclusion is; it was a class war. Communism was on the rise; and the aristocracy were scared. Plus the Labour Party; and the trade union movement, were gaining popularity. (People lived in appalling housing conditions; and were paid next to nothing) I'd be here hours but I don't want to offend anyone. Officers sat wining and dining; watching the carnage in the trenches. (Black Adder was pretty much accurate) British newspapers wrote letters (apparently) from the front, from non-existent people. If you argued in the trenches, you were executed by a firing squad. I've said enough and I'm not a communist by the way... which is a label fixed to anyone who gives an alternative viewpoint. Enjoyed it all the same; but for different reasons.
