At about 3:40. is when I think he starts to realize it's over for him. The Gargoyle statue is too heavy for him to climb up and he's on the last rung. You can even see it in his face(good acting by Nicholson),he's exerting every last bit of strength just to hang on a few more seconds.
There's this... and then there's the real Joker: "You! You just couldn't let me go, could you? This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You truly are incorruptable. You won't kill me out of some overblown sense of self-righteousness. And I won't kill you because you're just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever."
I am not into comics so I am not going to sit here say how accurate who's Joker is. I will tell you why I love Nicholson's Joker, all the little gadgets and props he uses. The death hand buzzer, the flower that shoots acid, the big gun he shoots the batwing down with. But I also love the way he delivers his performace of the Joker, his laugh is hilarious and I love how he laughs at everything. Take this scene for example. Batman beats the shit out him, and then produces a set of fake teeth after he just got thrown through a wall. Batman then accuses him of killing his parents, he then spits out his blood then laughs (which I LOVE the way he laughs here) then calls him Bat-brain as Batman backs him up to the edge. The Joker knows he has no where to go and Batman is full of rage about his parents and this dude has the balls to produces a set of glasses and taunt him one last time with my favorite line of all time " You wouldn't hit a guy with glasses would you? HUH?" I crack up every time I hear that. Nicholson's Joker is FUNNY, he makes me laugh with all the things he does, AND he's terrifying at the same time. Heath Ledger's Joker is does funny things but isn't actually all that funny, but he is also terrifying. Jack Nicholson absolutely nailed his performance as the Joker.
C K I have always thought that he put the glasses on knowing that he would get hit and fall over the edge to pull Batman and Vicky over like he did. Genius
yeah Burton's Batman have CHARACTER, something NO modern Batman movie has. You can like them, but they just DON'T have that... thats not my oppinion its the truth
4:26 I think at that point, Vicki started crying, not simply from the stress and trauma but also in relief that her ordeal with the Joker is finally over and Bruce was comforting and telling her to let it all out.
She shouldn’t be sad or stressed and traumatized she should of been happy and let joker play with her because he liked her so she should like home back
@@petergresh516 The last goon was waaaaay stronger than Joker and used Batman as a punching bag, mixing his hard punches to the abs, face, balls and finishing with a kick to the face. Brutal and unnerving :)
When I first watched the scene, I always questioned whether or not Batman intended to kill Joker. I think I found the answer; he does intend to kill Joker. Joker makes the quip "Sometimes I just kill myself" and taunts Batman. The camera then pans to batman who seemingly has a quick second of thinking. The Joker gave Batman the idea to kill him. It makes sense for him to intend to kill. Such great cinematography and execution. Love this movie.
True. Jack Napier/joker could take your average person or gangsters like himself but against Batman, who trained in martial arts his whole life and Batman/Bruce just discovered Jack murdered his parents, he stood no chance in hell. Ledger's joker in TDK was clever enough to use attack Rottweiler dogs and a lead pipe as an equalizer to beat the hell out of Christian Bale's Batman.
@@castortroy7704 In other versions, Joker is pretty much good at hand to hand combat unlike Jack Napier, or Joaquin Phoenix. You know he's smart enough to beat Batman, even he's weak. The clown finds a weapon that is harder than a fist. In the 60s Batman TV show, the Joker was pretty good at fighting against Batman in the jewelry store scene.
@@poweroffriendship2.0 I know. I'm saying Jack/the Joker in this version could hold his own against your average person or street thugs and mob hoods like himself but he was easily a punching bag to Batman. Total one sided beatdown. Heath Ledger's Joker only beat Nolan's Batman down using a crowbar and Rottweiler attack dogs as an equalizer. Joker would've gotten his ass handed to him by Batman in a straight up one on one fight. Yes, Ledger's Joker was far more skilled in hand to hand combat than Nicholson's Joker or Romero's version or Phoenix.
@@castortroy7704 Yeah. But it really depends in most of his versions. If you played the games, especially in Injustice or MK vs DC, you know that he's skilled. Even MK11's Joker can beat other opponents using a cane and his fatalities are very hilarious yet grim.
Mr. Friendship lol your talking about a game where a chick can kick though your chest while turning green. Lol. Anything can happen in a game. If Sabretooth was in Mk and he lost even he would die from getting a bottle in his neck by Kano. Game rules.
I agree in a film sence your right, it was the best way to tell a story and introduce non comic book fans to the tale of a batman, but to hard core comic fans it was a hard pill to swallow im afraid.
One thing Nicholson pulls off in this more than any other joker, is he does what he's supposed to do. Be a villain and pull jokes (what a joker is supposed to do).
DIFESA PERSONALE MMA COMBATTIMENTO KRIS MAN to me, Mark Hamill's Joker will always be the best. He's the one i always imagine whenever i read the comics.
The Jack Nicholson version of The Joker is just perfect for the actor to play the DC Comic book supervillain in the live action film. It's been 30 years since Jack Nicholson played the Joker from 1989 to 2022!!
“You IDIOT! U made me! U dropped me in that vat of chemicals! That wasn’t easy to get over! AND DONT THINK THAT I DIDNT TRY!” “I know u did.” *punch!* Lmao 😂
I was five years old when a watched this movie for the first time. Batman comes in, punch Joker in the face as hard as he can and say "I gonna kill you"... The menacing tone only a night creature would have... Only would see something like that again after more than 20 years later when Batman (now played by Ben Affleck) blocked Superman's punch (with a speech you're not brave/men are brave) and started to beat the shit out of him.
I've heard people complain about Ben Affleck's Batman killing people even though Michael Keaton's Batman did the exact same thing. Most of these same people still love him which makes them bloody hypocrites. One of them - Anna from That Star Wars Girl - is someone I actually like but I still called her out for her hypocrisy, though I have no idea whether she acknowledged it (she hasn't replied but maybe she's done some soul searching).
Because this movie is a classic! Nolan stealed another scene;Batman against joker with batwing in this movie,Batman against joker with motorcycle in the dark knight .Even the scene between Gotham mafia and joker it’s similar to this movie
This has to be the strongest on-screen Joker we've had, like he had a concrete gargoyle attached to his leg while holding a rope ladder attached to a helicopter, not to mention he was able to hold on for like 1 full minute.
christian bale was awful as batman. i cringed whenever he said more than like three words. especially next to heath ledgers amazing performance or dent or gordon. his his gurgling out of breath voice was so comically terrible it ruined the tension of otherwise great scenes.
@@narutouzumaki-rx5lz I've never even seen Afleck so i wouldn't know, comic movies these days are terrible and over the top, surely it can't get worse than Bale can it? That voice 😂
This fight scene always reminded me of something George Carlin once said in one of his books, it was either "Napalm and Silly Putty" or "Brain Droppings," but he said/wrote "Why is it at the end of an action movie the two guys are always both great fighters? Wouldn't it be great to have a movie where instead of a fight scene, one guy just beats the shit out of the other?"
I remember being a kid, and thinking "Keaton!?!?! Keaton as Batman!?!? Ugh...." But he actually done a pretty good job! This ending was always iconic... the line about dancing with the devil, and the dizzying heights as the Joker looks to have won, then the gargoyle statue and the helicopter predicament. That part always stuck with me, thinking how much that would suck, being in the Joker's shoes hanging on a ladder with a gargoyle statue weighing him down. Then the little laugh at the end with the Joker's grin was always haunting!!!
This scene has 3 of my favorite Joker jokes... 1. Spitting out chattering teeth 2. You wouldn't hit a guy with glasses on, would ya? 3. Let me lend ya a hand
This is still my favorite live action Joker. He just got that blend of clown, psycho and mobster right in my opinion. Every other Joker leans towards one more than the other two, not to say that is wrong by any means, but to me the Joker is the character that can walk into and handle a mob meeting, pull the exploding cigar gag off and reveal that he left the gas on after he left, killing the guy whose house they met at like it was as natural as wiping your feet of mud before going inside.
People are acting like Batman purposely killed the Joker. It's not like he knew the gargoyle statue was gonna break off the building. His intention was to keep the Joker from escaping arrest.
Batman: I'm gonna kill you! The Joker: You idiot! You made me remember? The Joker: You dropped me into that vat of chemicals. That wasn't easy to get over and think that I didn't try Batman: I know you did
I love how the Joker's hair has become a dusty green by this part. Coupled with his desperation (just before he gets the upper hand for a bit), physically and in terms of wit his 'acidic' edge is becoming blunted. There is no better Joker than Nicholson's, partly because of the obvious fact that he's the best at making and using witticisms, and using joke shop-style props . He is believably a gangster turned homicidal artist. He is also great at being the 'sad clown' when everyone has abandoned him - and not a second before. Even without Batman's input, he clearly wouldn't be long for this world, dangling precariously from a rope ladder beneath a helicopter. Caesar Romero, also great, appears to be part of Nicholson's inspiration.
Never thought about this before, but do Joker's henchmen just back off and let Batman off the hook? He's in a pretty vulnerable spot. I mean, I know he's Batman and all and therefore still has edge, but this is about as good an opportunity as a couple henchmen are going to get to take him out.
Wow... I never thought about that myself :) I think most of them still see Batman as an unkillable creature of the night. The 3 goons in the belfry were the bravest. The last one was really determined to stop/kill this freak in a bat costume. He came close, too

I finally found this scene. I saw this movie when I was little and was traumatized by the way he died.
Odd thing is: technically batman didn't kill him: the Joker's own henchmen accidentally killed him.
Batman: I'm gonna kill you.
DC Comics: Wait, that's illegal.
Batman stopped killing when they realized how difficult it was to come up with new, quality villains.
Batman doesn’t kill period.
Tim Burton: Reality can be whatever I want

1:07 - “You wouldn't hit a guy with glasses on, would you? Huh?"
Alden R. Davis *punch*
There's this... and then there's the real Joker:
"You! You just couldn't let me go, could you? This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. You truly are incorruptable. You won't kill me out of some overblown sense of self-righteousness. And I won't kill you because you're just too much fun. I think you and I are destined to do this forever."
LordZontar *You'll be in a padded cell forever!*
"Maybe we could share one. They'll be doubling-up at the rate this city's inhabitants are losing their minds."
i actually had to think about it.
Genius
Cameron Monaghans performance was funny crazy and imo better
Wonderful and accurate description ;)
I think Jack Nicholson had a lot of fun playing this role
yeah Burton's Batman have CHARACTER, something NO modern Batman movie has.
You can like them, but they just DON'T have that... thats not my oppinion its the truth

I think at that point, Vicki started crying, not simply from the stress and trauma but also in relief that her ordeal with the Joker is finally over and Bruce was comforting and telling her to let it all out.
Nope. She wanted to kiss Batman since she first saw him ;)
She shouldn’t be sad or stressed and traumatized she should of been happy and let joker play with her because he liked her so she should like home back
@@rayc9410 I don’t usually say this but down bad

0:42 I love the way he winds up that punch and fails so miserably.
He should have went for the head
Plus the fact that batman said I'm guna kill you
0:43 joker tries to punch Batman. Ouch and lol.
One of the funniest parts of the movie lol.
Yes!!!!!
What the hell was Batman amour made of?
Looooool
joker knew he had no chance against batman in a hand too hand fight even after joker laid down the challenge lol
Game rules.
Making the Joker the man who killed Batman's parents was pure genius
Completely Agree.
I agree in a film sence your right, it was the best way to tell a story and introduce non comic book fans to the tale of a batman, but to hard core comic fans it was a hard pill to swallow im afraid.
I thought joe chill killed Bruce Wayne’s parents
Nicholas Win not in this version
I kinda hated it, it breaks the characters mystic
I always love the look on Batman's face at 3: 01 when he's about to fire the grappler. Badass!
Michael Keaton acted so much with his eyes and subtle facial expressions. I love his version of Batman
1:49 joker almost fell.
Is that the funniest scene no one talks about lol? It cracks me up everytime I see that. The look on his face like oh shit I almost killed myself.
One thing Nicholson pulls off in this more than any other joker, is he does what he's supposed to do. Be a villain and pull jokes (what a joker is supposed to do).
Fucking hell. The acting on Jack Nicholson in this movie is just perfection.
I love that Batman just straight-up murders the Joker in this.
The clown deserved to die.
“You wouldn’t hit a guy with glasses on, would ya? Huh?”
Favorite line.
THIS IS THE JOKER
DIFESA PERSONALE MMA COMBATTIMENTO KRIS MAN to me, Mark Hamill's Joker will always be the best. He's the one i always imagine whenever i read the comics.

3:47 so...Jack Nicholson's joker scream is what Mark based his on. And Danny Elfman made the intro theme to the cartoon show too....interesting :)
to me this too sounds like Mark Hamill
And Danny Elfman reused his intro score for 1990s TV movie's The Flash

Ahahahahahaha😂😂
The Jack Nicholson version of The Joker is just perfect for the actor to play the DC Comic book supervillain in the live action film. It's been 30 years since Jack Nicholson played the Joker from 1989 to 2022!!

Your right. Like the come on hit me scene
“That wasn’t easy to get over. And don’t think that I didn’t try.” My favorite line in the entire movie 😂
Jack Nicholson as the joker was a stroke of genius
Batman literally sent Joker over the edge, in so doing Joker goes COMPLETELY INSANE!
I was also. I initially seen this movie in the theater with my parents.

This has to be the strongest on-screen Joker we've had, like he had a concrete gargoyle attached to his leg while holding a rope ladder attached to a helicopter, not to mention he was able to hold on for like 1 full minute.
but he is not very good at a fistfight
Because Batman was wearing armor
1:50 that face he makes🤣

Bale was the best batman
christian bale was awful as batman. i cringed whenever he said more than like three words. especially next to heath ledgers amazing performance or dent or gordon. his his gurgling out of breath voice was so comically terrible it ruined the tension of otherwise great scenes.
Christian Cancer Throat Bale was terrible, funny how only kids say Bale was the best Batman, bless them.

1:33 When you had too much to drink at the villain party. 🍻 🎉🃏🤣😂🤣😂
Joker: “You wouldn’t hit a guy with glasses now woulda huh?” Me: 😳”Fuck ya motherfucker” 🤨 Batman: (Face Palm)
Beetleman??? :D
Serves him right for killing Bob!
This scene has 3 of my favorite Joker jokes...
1. Spitting out chattering teeth
His henchmen are stupid they could have flew over the building to reposition the gargoyle
Batman: I'm gonna kill you!
The Joker: You idiot! You made me remember?
The Joker: You dropped me into that vat of chemicals. That wasn't easy to get over and think that I didn't try
Batman: I know you did
1:07
Joker: You wouldn’t hit a guy with glasses, would you?
Batfleck: *HOLD MY BEER.*
It's funny as Batfleck would've killed many of the jokers, villains so quickly 🤣
Jack's Joker knew it was all over as soon as the statue broken off.
“Sometimes I just kill myself,”
Very poor choice of words
"Hahahahahaha Lend ya a hand" Only The Joker can laugh hysterically when he nearly offs someone.
Well to him, everything's a sick joke.
“You wouldn’t hit a guy with glasses on would ya?” I bust out laughing everytime.🤣

Batman joker: THEY DON’T MAKE THEM LIKE THEY USE TO!
suicide squad joker: no, they really don’t…
Never thought about this before, but do Joker's henchmen just back off and let Batman off the hook? He's in a pretty vulnerable spot. I mean, I know he's Batman and all and therefore still has edge, but this is about as good an opportunity as a couple henchmen are going to get to take him out.
Wow... I never thought about that myself :)
I think most of them still see Batman as an unkillable creature of the night. The 3 goons in the belfry were the bravest. The last one was really determined to stop/kill this freak in a bat costume. He came close, too
2:47 - _Very poor choice of words._
I have to say i do like Heath Ledger as the Joker but Jack Nicholson is so iconic in the role :)
Jack: a clown
Heath: a clown who put grandma’s make up on wrong
