Interesting adapter, I wasn't aware such a thing existed. Groups well from a rest too. Thanks for this one, cheers!
You bet!! Thanks for watching it!
Wonderful adapter on a wonderful day!
This video is so relaxing.
Thank you!
Damn it. Now I NEED a MH.
Yes you do!!!!
Great video! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching!
I'm not aware of any Henry with a .452 bore. You'll have to use a custom neck sizing die with a cast bullet to your bore's dimensions.
Thanks for the information. And thank you for watching and commenting.
Thank you. I am limited to antiques now. I don't have to spend all kinds of money for a mosin That is an antique I can just buy one Of these rifles and the adapter.
Well good luck!!!
There's a strange report when fired, or am I just hearing things? Very interesting video, thank you.
It may be an echo off the trees surrounding the range. Check out my latest short and video to see the trees
I suspect the bullet is not in contact (or very loosely) with the rifling.
I've had one of those adapters for years. It does indeed work. I've had no issues firing it or with it jamming up. However, I have a MKIV Martini-Henry. They tend to have larger bores. It is only accurate when I use .468 diameter projectiles. When using the 45 colt adapter, there is no accuracy to speak of. The bullets are just too small in diameter. I'm surprised it is even moderately accurate in your earlier Martini-Henry. What diameter projectiles do you use for your full size rounds?
I don’t have any full size rounds. I just use the adapters.
I have the adapter and shot blackpowder with lead projectile. Same thing, it shot high and I had to aim like you. I wonder if anyone has a reason as to why and if shooting at 100 meters is better
Well 50 yards is most likely at the top of the arc for the bullet as it travels down range.
Factory .577/450 was what, 480gr bullet @ about 1300fps? The .45 LC is ... 255gr @ about 1000fps (from a 5" barrel)? Who knows what the velocity is out of a rifle barrel, but the 45LC is also commonly used in lever guns so I bet it has a powder to take advantage of at least some extra length.
I’ll bet the recoil isn’t too bad with those 45acp
Just about negligible!
Cheap to shoot, but nothing like the experience.
Very true but I do have plenty other firearms that belch smoke!!!
I get minute of pickup truck accuracy with mine. A .452 bullet in a .468 bore just doesn’t work.
While I can appreciate the purist views, much like those wailing and gnashing their teeth at “Everything Blackpowder” shooting his cap and ball with smokeless, much like him I’m just here for the fun of shooting. Thanks though….
Did you have to fit your adapter? Mine needed to be filed down in the back a little to fit my Martini
No. Mine fitted perfectly!
@@BulletsandButtons Nice 👍 Yeah, mine just had to be filed down in the back. I couldn't get it to close
@ShaneT.0331 I consider myself lucky that I was able just to put it in then.
45 long Colt. Can you post the SAAMI specs for that round? I've never been able to find them.
Well I just Googled 45LC and found them….
@@BulletsandButtons SAAMI listed? From their official document? For 45 long colt?
Ah yes, I have had to "remove" plenty of those adapters that got stuck in the chamber.
Not worth bothering with
I’ve not had that issue but thanks for your comment anyway.
Easy fix for that and the manufacturer should do it. Drill and tap the edge of the adapter for a 4-40 screw. If it gets stuck all you have to do is thread in a screw as a grip to pull the adapter. The rim is thin, you only get 1-2 threads, but it doesnt take much. The same adapter is available in 45acp, which is far cheaper and easier to get, although 45lc is cheap and easy to reload. It shoots high because the LC bullet is about 250gr and the 577/450 is 480gr.
