Carrie Fisher liked to make sure she mentioned what Leia did to Jabba when asked. "Yeah, a slug put me in a metal bikini from hell, but then I killed him for it."
@MarkusCrassus She hated that outfit because parts of her kept falling out of it. She said in an interview that when she leaned back in it, anyone behind her got a clear view all the way down.
@@ronaldnelson6692 She didn't hate it at all. She loved it, even praised it on several occasions. She featured it on her own website and in her bio! What she was saying there was just a joke.
It's funny. I was 11 when ROTJ came out. I was old enough to be fully immersed in Star Wars, and cognizant of a lot of details, but young enough to never see Leia as a sex symbol. I always loved Leia as a character. I suppose if I had been 5 or 10 years younger, I would not have been "along for the ride" with the original generation of Star Wars fans. If, however I had been 5 years older, I would likely have been much more impacted by seeing Leia in her "carbonite bikini".
Darth Vader is played by 4 people in the original trilogy: 1. the body is former champion bodybuilder, David Prowse 2. the sword, Olympic fencer and stunt choreographer, Bob Anderson 3. the face, force ghost Anakin and helmet removal scene is Sebastian Shaw, Hayden Christensen was added after the prequels 4. the voice.. Vader would be far less intimidating without the amazing voice work of James Earl Jones
Prowse basically screwed himself out of being the face. It was originally shot with him and I remember him leaking the info to the press that he was finally going to be seen. Lucas then reshot the scene with Shaw.
That they exchanged Sebastian Shaw's ghost with that of Hayden Christensen is yet another act of sacrilege by Lucas. Anakin's ghost changes its age to when he was young, whereas Obi-Wan and Yoda's ghosts maintain their ages at death. He just doesn't know what's good for him, and what the fans love and what they hate. "The fans LOVED the original three movies. The fans said they loved everything the way it was. I know: let's change everything! And especially, let's change the ending! Let's change everything they knew and loved. Let's change the wonderful music and let's make the scene feel less genuine and intimate and add a lot of characters we've never seen in the movies who couldn't know that the galaxy had now been saved but are still celebrating it, instead of just showing the celebrating of the Ewoks and Luke and Leia and Han." And he thought, "they'll LOVE Jar-Jar Binks." and "They'll love Woke Star Wars and me killing off Han Solo and making Luke - the star if the whole thing - just a secondary bit-player to the strong, shallow female lead they've never seen or heard of before. That'll be the perfect end to what began with Luke." He has such great instincts.
The reason Leia says she's somehow always known Luke is her brother is because she felt a connection to him like she's felt with no other person. When presented with the fact that they're related, it just made sense because of that feeling she's had.
It's also no Green Cross Code man either. (The actor used to teach children how to cross the road safely in UK public information films in the 70's and 80's) Why is hole other story.
@@brucechmiel7964 The man running around in the black suit and helmet was David Prowse. he was never told that the voice was going to be dubbed till after filming. so even at the end when the helmet came off they did a second take with someone else. and never told him.
Right R2 knows the entire back story and can't tell the humans directly, because he speaks in clicks and whistles. R2 Knows EVERYTHING. He even knows that Darth Vader is Anakin Skywalker. Watch the prequels Coby and you will see how.

I'm going to guess Jabba's former slave girls wore the same size. The man knows what he likes lol.......as for the ewoks having her size clothes, maybe they were from the last person they cooked? Lol
Yeah ... The Ewok outfit is kinda inexplicable, but Jabba has slave girls and twilek women and human women have the same parts ... less the ears of course.
the anglo saxon attitude to kissing in the family circle, lol. there was this one kiss that was just made to piss of the too arrogant han solo. and they didn't know they were siblings at the time. the rest were just pecks on the cheek like any friends, family and acquaintenses do every day where i live.
@@takuid You're forgetting the one she planted square on his mouth in defiance of Han in ESB. Like she was telling him that she'd rather be with Luke than with him. "Laugh it up, furball" Han says to Chewie as he laughs in his Wookie way.
@@Galiant2010 yeah that is "the one kiss" I was talking about. the rest seemed like regular old pecking the cheek kind of stuff (that was not romantic or sexual in any way) to me when I was watching the OT. And that one kiss was clearly to invoke emotions of jealousy from Han rather than anything genuine from Leia toward Luke (not that he cared lol)
Vader's funeral pyre is so sad because Luke is alone in his mourning for his father, one of the most hated and feared men in the galaxy. They only had one true moment as father and son and not as enemies, and just like that he's gone.
Okay, Coby, rundown on lightsaber colors; Blue: Jedi Guardian, essentially warriors and protectors. Green: Jedi Consular, leaders and teachers in the Jedi order. Yellow: Jedi Sentinel, spies and secret police. Red: Sith color Any other colors are custom jobs. The color is determined by the kyber crystal used in construction of the saber. Love watching these again with you, Coby; great reaction, as always!✌️❤️
I have NEVER accepted the prequels portrayal of anakin. It’s just so disappointing after I had 20 + years to think about what a pre Vader Skywalker would be like. Sigh.
@@wkanost Lucas had set up a excellent foundation for his pre-Vader character through Obi-Wan's descriptions of him in the OT. Unfortunately, while the prequels had a good overall plot arc to set this up, Lucas just didn't stick the landing on most of the details. I think he got so excited by the possibilities offered by CGI advances that he didn't focus on the little things that he should have. The prequels are a lot like a Land Rover--when they work, they're great, but they have so many issues you don't really know if it's worth the aggravation to have it.
When i was young, i saw these films multiple times in the theater. It was a nice escape from the troubles of the bad neighborhood i lived in. Truly Magical. Thank you George Lucas.
Luke's lightsaber is green because the blue one wouldn't show up against the blue sky. They explained that Luke had to build his own lightsaber as part of his Jedi training.
That and it was also to help establish it is a new Lightsaber for the general audience. There are other reasons but these came after the fact (Jedi Guardians, Consulars, Sentinals, etc.)
she missed a L0T trying to show us how good she is at figuring out the plot. I dont think she saw rage in Luke AT ALL in his final 3 bludgeoning lightsaber strikes and she didnt seem to react to the hand chop at all. .
@@0okamino funnily enough This is actually referenced in a later novel from the Expanded Universe (I forget which one). Lando and Han are in the Falcon's cockpit and during a maneuver that was rather precarious, Han quips, "Wow we almost lost the dish there." Then he glances over knowingly at Lando who proceeds to say: "I said I was sorry about that!!!"
Every time I see the special edition of this film I just groan with Vader saying “no”. Originally he didn’t say anything before turning on the emperor. To me it works so much better that way, a man silently in a struggle within himself and in that silence seeing his son being murdered sacrifices himself to save his son. Way better than the very operatic “nooooo!”
100%! I hate all the "Special Editions". Not only do they make the story weaker but ironically the CGI has not stood up as well as the practical effects. The wampa scene in the ice cave was better before when you couldn't really see it, Han and Greedo scene was better (much better arc for Han), the Jabba scene outside the Falcon was stupid and superfluous, etc., and as you say the "no" takes away from that scene. That is what happens when there is nobody around that will say no to George... we get the "Special Editions" and the PT.
I also hated what they did with the Sarlacc Pit, looks so phoney. I miss the Ewoks singing YuB Dub at the end. The thing that didn't make any sense is replacing Anakin's spirit with a younger version instead of the original theatrical version when they didn't change Ben and Yoda.
Coby. There is a little things you missed. 52:48. Lukes face is in half light half dark. When Vader says your sister and Luke comes out gunning. Vader takes a huge breathe. He knows (i shouldnt have but i did) Luke does turn to the dark side. Anakin did for Padme and Luke for his sister. The correlation? Look at Lukes eyes after he chopped his dads arm off. He did turn. But brought it back in check 53:38
Imagine being six years old and watching this new film called Star Wars in the theater. When you said watching these - the original three - in theaters were a life changing thing, I said "Yes. Yes it was." And that's why I'm such a big fan of Star Wars.
Just last night I saw your other two reactions to the other two films in the classic trilogy. I'm glad I don't have to wait at all to see the conclusion. Thanks for making the videos, I loved them. After watching them, I have had the idea of recording myself and my little son when he sees these movies for the first time. It will be a nice memory.
Same. I was watching g the other two and genuinely enjoyed her reaction. I was excited when I saw it was coming out today and immediately clicked the notification for the premiere 🤗...
Your laugh is so genuine and full throated and fun to hear. It’s so nice to see you enjoy these movies. It’s like watching them again and remembering how I enjoyed them at the cinema. I saw Star Wars when I was 5 in 1977 and it was my first time seeing a film. My mum had to read all the subtitles for me and I got quite scared by the sand people. I didn’t know what city they were shooting at (the Death Star) but I thought it was hilarious when Chewy roared and made all the people stand to attention during the medal ceremony.
In this movie Darth Vader were 5 people: David Prowse was the main actor behind the mask, James Earl Jones was the voice, Sebastian Shaw was the actor with the mask removed who gave the final lines to Luke... and there was also a stuntman for the lightsaber sequences. And Hayden Christensen was Anakin/Darth Vader Force Ghost.
When this film premiered, there was a cinema in London that was showing parts IV and V up to midnight and after midnight they showed VI (announced by Anthony Daniels - not in costume). The whole cinema was comprised of Star Wars fans and many were in costume. It was a fantastic atmosphere and a great evening.
Yes, I saw the triple bill too in Dublin even though I'd already seen the first two, it was a unique experience to see them all back-to-back on the big screen.
It was decades of watching these movies before I heard someone point out how hard it must have been for Leia to hear vader was her father, because in the first movie he tortured her. That completely changed how I see that scene where Luke tells her, all the things she must have been feeling at that point...
Only Han was tortured in Empire Strikes Back The only thing we know for certain in New Hope is Leia was injected with a truth serum and interrogated. Back then hurting women was not allowed.
@@badbone7704 Not allowed does not include being left ambiguous. There is a Clint Eastwood western where he drags a woman into a stable or barn or something and it cuts away, leaving little doubt to what he did. There are hundreds of cases where this happens, an allusion to harm without there being harm, that way they can deny it. It was also decades before many women pointed out to me that Leia was likely SAed by Jabba. I never saw it, but once they told me, I could see SO MANY aspects of the scene which pointed to it. A horror left ambiguous can work on the imagination better than a blatant one.
I saw this movie on opening day in 1983 when I was but a young lad. That ending had the theater cheering. Now, I can’t experience that again for the first time, but I can experience you experiencing it for the first time, and you absolutely did not disappoint! Excellent reaction!
That was an amazing time, wasn't it? It was great fun to see my younger friends experience the original films during the special edition re-releases in 1997, and now years later here. Fun seeing how Coby's having such a great time watching them!
I can remember opening day. The cheer was so loud when Vader picked up the Emperor, you could feel the impact of the sound on your body, pressing on your skull, chest and arms.
COBY! Really fun watching you figure it all out. I'd like to respond to a few points you made and questions you had... You commented on how bold it was that they named the first film Episode IV. But when they first released it, that was not in the titles that rolled up. They only added it for the rerelease a year later. In "Return of the Jedi" Darth Vader was played by 3 men. The man in the suit was an English bodybuilder by the name of David Prowse. I loved that you said Chewie was like a big Ewok. If you think about it, Wookiee and Ewok are pretty much rearranged words to make each other. ... Trivia: The word "Ewok" was never mentioned in "Return of the Jedi." (Then how did we ever find out what they were called? That's a mystery!)
You are by far my favorite movie reviewer on RUclips. You have a great smile and an infectious laugh, your knowledge of movie lore is excellent, your commentary is insightful and funny, and you are clearly enjoying yourself. It couldn't be better. Thanks.
It's surprisingly fun to watch your reactions to films I have been a fan of for decades. My friends and I have watched these films so often that we know the dialogue by heart. To see someone experience it for the first time reinforces our love for these films. Thank you for doing this
All Leia's kisses for Luke were motivated by emotions: luck, jealousy, empathy, comfort. But not one of those kisses was motivated by feelings of romance.
It always makes me uncomfortable when people think that there was something incestuous between Luke and Leia. My question to them remains: Are we watching the same Star Wars, or are you looking at a specific kind of parody?
@@raybernal6829 That may be true, but nothing done indicates that the kiss represented lust in any way. Feelings of love for someone can be prompted by many things, often misunderstood things, as they are in this case. Perhaps folks should check themselves for hidden motivations. 🤔🤔

Thank you so much for these reactions. I was wondering what happened to Kimberly? Haven't seen Kimberly long time on the channel. Really liked her reactions, commentary & interviews on the channel.
Vader's death scene: English actor Sebastian Shaw was the man behind the mask. Shaw was also Anakin's ghost, who appeared with Yoda and Obi-Wan at the end. As others have said, David Prowse played Vader in the suit, while James Earl Jones provided the voice behind the mask.
@@nathancruz9172 ….. Having a different Anakin ghost at the end didn’t bother me much. The abomination known as “Jedi rock” is tops on my list of Worst Film Changes. Lucas had no shame back then.

_A long time ago, in a movie theater about five miles away ..._ *EPISODE VI* *JABBA THE HUTT, THE GOVERNOR, AND THE BANGIN' NEW SOUND SYSTEM* I saw _Return of the Jedi_ in the Stuart (now Roccoco) Theater in Lincoln, Nebraska. She took up the first six floors of the 10-story Stuart Building. Like many theaters of her era, the Stuart had once been a live theater later converted to cinema. She originally hosted the local symphony orchestra, theatrical companies, operas, touring companies, vaudeville, etc. When she was converted to cinema, they sold her backstage area. Today, it's a theater-themed night club: _The Barrymore_ . The Stuart was one of those Grand Dame theaters: six stories high, three balconies, box seats, hand woodworking, and gold and silver inlays everywhere. There was a gigantic chandelier over the main floor. She seated 1,850. She was truly a beautiful sight to behold. At the time I saw _Jedi_ , she had a bangin' new sound system -- which is a good time for a flashback ... _Slightly longer ago, at a High School about three miles away ..._ It was my Senior year in High School, and I was several days from graduating. The school held an assembly to acknowledge honor students, which I wasn't. Along with hundreds of other students, I'd be bored out of my mind for the next three hours. Then it hit me, like a flash of lightning: _The Stuart Theater is offering free admission to an obscure movie, so that they can show off her bangin' new sound system_ . After weighing my options, I decided to go do the Stuart Theater. I mean, what were they going to do, give me detention? I was graduating in a few days! As everyone else went to the school auditorium, I went in the opposite direction, to the school's main exit. However, as I was walking down the hall, who should be approaching but the Principal, two Vice-Principals, and the Governor of the State of Nebraska. The Governor was scheduled to give some kind of speech about how wonderful life is and we have so much ahead of us, blah blah blah. I assumed my goose was cooked. The Principal and his Vices knew precisely where I was supposed to be, and it wasn't headed out the door. What I hadn't counted on was that admonishing me in front of the Governor would be embarrassing for the Principal. I'm sure they told the Governor how squeaky-clean the school was, how the students are all fantastic, how there were never any problems, etc. To admonish me would be to destroy the propaganda. So we simply passed each other. I politely said hello to the Governor and nodded to the Principal and his Vices. They gave me angry hellos between clenched teeth. And then I walked out the door, hopped in my Chevy Chevette, and went to the Stuart. _Meanwhile, back at Return of the Jedi ..._ The Stuart's bangin' new sound system was not only bangin', it was astonishing. Imagine hearing Maestro John Williams' brilliant score as it shook the entire theater. It was no less impressive than a live performance by the London Symphony Orchestra. But that wasn't even the half of it. When Jabba had his first line, " *Bo shudda* ," the bass shook the rafters and thundered throughout the whole building. I recall being in the middle seat, of the first row, of the first balcony with some friends. The floor and guardrail shook like a minor earthquake. It doesn't matter how good your home sound system is, the music isn't reverberating the steel support beams of a 10-story building. I sat there for two hours just waiting for good bass, and was never disappointed. I mean, at the very least there was the London Symphony Orchestra performing the score, as composed and conducted by Maestro John Williams! So while this wasn't as immersive as the Indian Hills Theater for _A New Hope_ , it was sill impressive! *Bo shudda!*
Colby is adorable, and one of the best reactors I have seen. Completely unexpected. With her unbelievable beauty, I expected her to be stuck up and rigid. But she is not like that at all. She is adorable. I still can’t get over how she doesn’t have a single trace of the Australian accent though. She sounds more American than most Americans. I was hooked on popcorn in bed reactions for a while, but she is giving them a run for their money and hers are a little bit more grounded and she’s more intelligent and a lot less naïve. Being an actress herself, she knows.
Yes, this is the first time we as an audience got to see Jabba back in 1983. The Jabba scene in A New Hope was originally shot with a human actor playing Jabba, who Lucas intended to replace via bluescreen with a stop-motion animated creature. He ran out of time and couldn't make it the way he wanted, so he cut the scene. In 1997 the scene was added back in for the Special Edition of the movie(along with other changes), using a CGI Jabba that looked like crap. In 2004 for the DVD release a new, better-looking CGI Jabba which is what you see now. In the original scene Han walked behind the human actor, with the CGI Jabba the footage was manipulated to make it look like Han is stepping on Jabba's tail.
It was amazing to see your face as you experience what we all felt 40 years ago. Your joy was reminding me of what I felt my first time. It was a simple r time back then, and there was nothing else this good back then. It was such a big event for a young boy like me at the cinema watching these first 3 films
This movie is the culmination of two huge classic story tropes. Aniken Skywalker finally gets redemption through his son. And Luke Skywalker finishes his hero's journey to redeem his father.
Also in the real world brothers & sisters have been known to kiss that way when greeting each other. Never understood why people react to that kiss as if it's disgusting

@@InternetBlog-ww3go Exactly it was one of the physical ways that the Emperor controlled Vader. He also never let him develop a better more robust suit.
@dhavaram8064 Truth to what you write. 👍🏾 It was both a "boon" to increase his Darkside power through pain and a trap to make him very vulnerable to Force Lightning. With only two known beings being able to use Force Lightning. The Emperor and the "Lost" Yoda. The only two beings known to be able to stop or ultimately kill Darth Vader. This is one of the reasons why he would spent so much time in a bacta tank, physically "healing" as much as he could while mostly brooding over Padme, his choices, hatred of Obi Wan caused by his choices, and later on discovery of his son Luke. Darth Vader/Anakin grew to hate the Emperor and waited for his time to overthrow Palpatine. Vader/Anakin saw his chance when Luke was known by him to be his son. Vader feigned ignorance of knowing that Luke was his son when he met with Palpatine through the subspace transmission. Vader was developing an elaborate trap to overthrow the Emperor together, with Luke's help along with his unabridged and, as of yet untapped, power. There are so many layers to good non sequel trilogy Star Wars.

Interesting that you called the mini-walkers the "Dodo Bird Robot" as my Dad used to call them "Chicken Walkers." When this came out, Darth Vader came to my local store to sign autographs in the gardening section. (I associate the smell of peat moss with Vader to this day!) He had a blue Bic biro pen in his leather-gloved hand and I was so impressed that the Empire used Bic biros just like the rest of us. He finished signing and swept through all the plants and flower pots in his long, black cloak. Impressive, most impressive.
I sometimes have a hard time keeping versions straight. Being born in '92 and not owning the movies until the mid 00s I grew up watching a mix of my aunt's VHS tapes, renting VHS tapes from the library, and borrowing my uncle's tapes. IIRC my aunt had the special editions, my uncle had the theatrical, and the library had both so it was whichever version was on the shelf lol. But the one thing I do remember catching me off guard was the difference in Palpatine in ESB and hearing him say the name Anakin Skywalker. I was always under the impression that the first time I heard it was Luke talking to Vader on Endor.
Wait what? I thought in ESB he said he was the son of Anakin Skywalker. So when Vader announces he is his father you can put 2 and 2 together to know Vader's name is Anakin? Was that part of the emperor's speech not in the original him saying he was the son of Anakin Skywalker?
@@knightmarefishing I think he, at least originally, only said "The son of Skywalker". Anakin wasn't said until RotJ when Luke first sees Vader on Endor. Which adds greater weight to Luke calling him Anakin and Vader saying "That name no longer holds any meaning for me." First time hearing it on screen and Vader immediately rejects it.
@@knightmarefishing that’s only in the “redone” version where Ian McDiarmind is in full makeup that has since become de facto wirh George’s last bunch of retouches. In the original ESB the emperor only says, “We have a new enemy… Luke Skywalker!”
Interesting fact: The scenes where Lando is talking to the alien copilot on the Millennium Falcon. Lando asks a question in English and the copilot responds in an "alien" language, right? When it was shown in Africa audiences were cracking up! The alien language is Swahili. They were phrases from a translation book. Lando says something important and the alien asks "Where is the bathroom?" etc.. 😂
8:00 if you think about it, we understand our phones by the different sounds it makes: text messages, ring tones for different people, voicemail and other alerts, alarms, emails, etc. I think that’s how R2 is understood. Coby, I'm glad that you picked up on the fact that Artoo-Detoo is the best Ride or Die anyone could ever ask for. Also.... When Coby saw the Ewok die, she finally realized that War is Hell.
they had a body builder named David Prowse playing Vader for everything except the Un-masking. One of the things that goes under the radar is the physical acting of Vader. You can feel his emotions through out all 3 original movies yet never see his face. Top tier physical acting by Prowse
I watched this in 1983, and back then there was no CGI beak for the Sarlacc, it was just a pit lined with teeth and tentacles, the dance routine was merely Oola dancing for him, and then spurning his advances hence why she was fed to the Rancor in the pit underneath Jabba's throne room, Vader was silent when he finally changed sides and saved Luke grabbing the Emperor and throwing him over the edge. The CGI beak and the song and dance routine and Vader shouting no before he acts, were added for the Special Edition releases in 1997. He also added the celebrations across the galaxy to the Special Edition, and further tweaked this by adding Christian Hayden in a 2004 update. The original celebrations just the the Rebel and the Ewoks celebrating back on the Forest Moon with the Ewoks "Jub Jub" song. Edit, changed 1984 to 1983 as I was still at school when this came out. My memory is obviously not what it used to be. 👍
Loved your OT reactions. Keep it real Coby, it will serve you well. ;) As for Leia's outfits, specifically her gold one... that is a slave outfit (chain and collar) and Jabba has had many slave girls (green girl at the start of RotJ was also collared and chained). The reason it fit is because there would be a whole collection from which they would choose one to fit her. Yes, all the boys loved and still love Leia in her slave outfit. ;) I can't explain the Ewok dress though (especially since Ewoks did not have woven cloth knowledge). "Empire" is and will always be my favorite (love all the OT though). Sorry to break it too you but no, the Ewoks were not universally loved, that is mostly a chick and kid thing. Oh, one last thing... Luke seeing his father's mechanical hand and then looking at his own made him realize that he was starting down the same path as his father (becoming him) which helped him turn from the Dark Side. EDIT: OK, one last last thing. 😆 The reason Yoda died so close to Luke returning is he was using the force to help keep himself alive until Luke returned. Once he did and he parted the knowledge he had to, he let go.
Like, it's theoretically possible to be "twins" with different fathers, so I wasn't upset at that reasoning. But yeah, the implication of twins is same parents entirely.
Thank you for this trip down nostalgia lane. Those movies were so amazing for me when I was a kid. Return of the Jedi was my favorite movie of all time for many years later and I got to see it 6 times in the theatre. I love that she "got it". 😊
Seeing them in the theater (especially the very first one) was truly awe inspiring - the effects were on a scale no one had seen before. That flourish of trumpets with the introductory crawl, then segueing into the opening battle with the huge Star Destroyer…. Practically mind blowing as a twelve year old. The thing that really sucked back in the day was having to wait three years between each one! As a teenager, that was an eternity. (These days it feels like an eye blink!)
Glad you finally got to meet the Ewoks. The primary Ewok Leia meets was supposed to be played by Kenny Baker, the actor who plays R2-D2 when he dances, but he was ill the day they shot the scene. The part was instead played by an 11 year old actor with dwarfism named Warwick Davis. Return of the Jedi was his first movie. In his honor, the Ewok is named Wicket W. Warwick. A lot of his mannerisms (the head tilts mostly) are based on his grandmother’s dog and the way it reacted to strange noses.
a number of things were added after the prequel trilogy was complete: in the original, Vader was completely silent when he killed the Emperor, his Force Ghost was Sebastian Shaw (the guy inside the Vader suit) , they only showed Tatooine & Endor (rather than Naboo, Coruscant, Tattooine, Bespin, Endor and Tatooine,) celebrating the victory and they used an entirely different (and much better, imo) victory song in said celebration.
James Earl Jones was only the voice. For the first 2 movies and this one until the death scene it was David Prowse in the suit-1 6'7 bodybuilding and strength athlete. The actor in the suit for the death scene was Sebastian Shaw.
Oh my. Your reaction to the "another Skywalker" reveal was EVERYTHING! So excited and happy to learn the news😃, then about 1.5 seconds later: "😳Wait...... EEWWW!!!!!" Fellow gentlemen of culture, protect this woman at all costs.
Leia was not originally going to be Luke's sister. Luke's sister was instead going to be someone we never meet in the original trilogy. She was going to be the subject of sequels. She was going to be someone already turned to the dark side, and the trilogy was going to be Luke travelling to an as yet unseen part of the galaxy to try to turn her back like he did with his father. However, Lucas said he had so many struggles and issues with just trying to get the original three films made that by the time he got to Return of the Jedi he just wanted to be done with Star Wars altogether, and so during preproduction he changed the story to make Leia the sister. It works as long as you don't think too much about it. A sequel trilogy about Luke's sister would have been much better though
I don't buy Lucas' version of that completely because shortly after we here there is another in Ep. 5, Luke reaches out to Leia with the force and she senses him, leading the audience to believe she is the other Skywalker. All well before Ep. 6.
Heck, at one point, there was a script floating around that had: 1. Luke turning to the dark side… 2. Yoda surviving to the end of ROTJ and prodding Luke to turn back, and… 3. Also had Yoda encouraging “the other” to come out of the closet… and it was going to be Lando!
notice ewok spelled backwards is kowe. ewoks aren't little bears or dogs, they're little bipedal cows that live in the trees. and they said it couldn't be done. in episode #93: the new dope or jabba's chainsaw massacre, we find chewie is luke's second cousin, once removed and hans solo is his own grandpa. man, you can't make this stuff up! such a wacky galaxy. thanks for the video.
The way I see it, Luke coming back was the final test that gave Yoda the reassurance the future of the Jedi were in good hands, and he could succumb to death peacefully, as he'd been dying for some time.
I stand by that this is one of the greatest redemption stories of all time when it comes to Vader, counterintuitively. This guy was practically the boogeyman of Star Wars. He was ruthless, cruel, and vicious in his conquests, both to his enemies and his allies. There is not one instance in the three movies where it's even hinted at that there is still good in him, he doesn't do a single good thing. The most we get is that he used to be a good man. But Luke is the first and only one to say he still is. And every reactor says the same thing when Luke says it "What the hell are you thinking?" Then Luke and Vader talk on the bridge and we get the first sign of humanity from Vader. "It is...too late for me, son." The way James Early Jones delivers that line is so subtle but implies the emotions going through his head. Then the scene ends with Vader looking off in the distance, and the body language is such that there is some sadness to him, or else a longing on what could have been. But we still see no evidence of good in him. But inevitably by the time the Emperor is electrocuting Luke, every reactor does the same thing. "COME ON!!! SAVE HIM!!!" He does. And it is the sole proof that we as an audience need that Luke was right. People go from thinking it's crazy to think Vader would do this for his son to begging Vader themselves and feeling so in awe and relief that he actually does. And many are in tears by the time of Vader's funeral. I repeat, the absolutely terrifying, imposing, villain who was part of an evil fascist dictatorship makes people cry at his funeral. I'm actually shocked at how effective of a change this is to get through to so many people with so little. And I fully credit this to visual filmmaking and a certain style of storytelling that is fading into obscurity where you didn't need a full backstory to understand a character
Well actually the first sign of « good » is when he didn’t punish or killed the commander after they made a mistake. It was really well played as the commander was even surprised to not be punished …..this is the moment where you see anakin resurfaced
And thats why there was no prequel needed to "explain" Vaders past. The prequels are bad, really bad. Plinkett said everything there is to say about them.
@@MultiJp51 If you are speaking of the end of Empire Strikes Back, then I believe the reason he did not kill the commander was because he was deep in thought over his son.
@@wsbchk_ I am a OG SW fan, I saw them in theater the opening week. I was not a huge fan of the prequels, but they grew on me as I watched my kids fall in love with Obi Wan and Anakin, and realized that Luke belongs to my generation and Anakin belongs to theirs. But one undeniable fact about the prequels. Anakin's character arc from a kid to his redemption is so much better because of the prequels, and the Clone Wars, of course.
David Prowse (RIP) who was the physical person in the suit is from Bristol in the UK and you wouldn't understand his accent at all , so they had James Earl Jones voice him. Sebastin Shaw was the actor you saw under the mask.
Luke losing his adoptive aunt and uncle, his mentor, his hand, finding out Darth Vader is his father and then losing him too so shortly after he saves him. Yet, all of it combined could not match the devastation Coby feels when a rando Ewok dies. Lmao! As expected, she fell for these creatures instantly. It was a real pleasure seeing Coby's reaction to the original trilogy. It is a very rare treat considering most people have seen these films dozens, if not hundreds of times. I'm really glad you enjoyed them, Coby.
When A New Hope was originally shot, that scene was captured, with a bipedal human, as that was the original concept for Jabba’s character (“You’re a wonderful human being.”). After this was left on the cutting room floor, they were free to re-imagine Jabba’s physical form for ROTJ.
Okay Coby, check out two sci-fi spoofs - 1.
When Coby said that Leia looked hot in the black outfit, the fifteen year old me who saw this movie at the cinema said "You ain't seen nothing yet"
Calling Salacious Crumb a 'Muppet on meth' was hilarious.
yes, indeed.
Literally a muppet and most likely also literally on a meth equivalent. HA HA HA
Absolutely inspired.
Darth Vader is played by 4 people in the original trilogy:
1. the body is former champion bodybuilder, David Prowse
2. the sword, Olympic fencer and stunt choreographer,
Bob Anderson
3. the face, force ghost Anakin and helmet removal scene is Sebastian Shaw, Hayden Christensen was added after the prequels
4. the voice.. Vader would be far less intimidating without the amazing voice work of James Earl Jones
Prowse basically screwed himself out of being the face. It was originally shot with him and I remember him leaking the info to the press that he was finally going to be seen. Lucas then reshot the scene with Shaw.
@jbfox100 Yeah Prowse must have had something wrong with him mentally
That they exchanged Sebastian Shaw's ghost with that of Hayden Christensen is yet another act of sacrilege by Lucas. Anakin's ghost changes its age to when he was young, whereas Obi-Wan and Yoda's ghosts maintain their ages at death.
He just doesn't know what's good for him, and what the fans love and what they hate.
"The fans LOVED the original three movies. The fans said they loved everything the way it was. I know: let's change everything! And especially, let's change the ending! Let's change everything they knew and loved. Let's change the wonderful music and let's make the scene feel less genuine and intimate and add a lot of characters we've never seen in the movies who couldn't know that the galaxy had now been saved but are still celebrating it, instead of just showing the celebrating of the Ewoks and Luke and Leia and Han."
And he thought, "they'll LOVE Jar-Jar Binks." and "They'll love Woke Star Wars and me killing off Han Solo and making Luke - the star if the whole thing - just a secondary bit-player to the strong, shallow female lead they've never seen or heard of before. The reason Leia says she's somehow always known Luke is her brother is because she felt a connection to him like she's felt with no other person. When presented with the fact that they're related, it just made sense because of that feeling she's had.
Another theory is that she was referring to being Force sensitive. I've never heard GL explain it so it's whatever we think...
Also, she is force sensitive, which gives her special insight and adds to the connection felt with Luke.
Force feeling that is
There was also the specific connection in Empire when Luke called her for help while dangling at the bottom of the station.
That’s not true, I felt that same connection to my girlfriend, like me, she was raised an orphan and …… oh shit….

It really is a moving story.
Okay, Coby, rundown on lightsaber colors;
Blue: Jedi Guardian, essentially warriors and protectors.
Green: Jedi Consular, leaders and teachers in the Jedi order.
Yellow: Jedi Sentinel, spies and secret police.
Red: Sith color
Any other colors are custom jobs. The color is determined by the kyber crystal used in construction of the saber.

Vader's character arc is legendary in theses movies.
The entire story is about the fall & rise of anakin skywalker
NOOOOOOOOO
I have NEVER accepted the prequels portrayal of anakin. It’s just so disappointing after I had 20 + years to think about what a pre Vader Skywalker would be like. Sigh.
@@wkanost Lucas had set up a excellent foundation for his pre-Vader character through Obi-Wan's descriptions of him in the OT. Unfortunately, while the prequels had a good overall plot arc to set this up, Lucas just didn't stick the landing on most of the details.
There was a delete scene that showed Luke built a new lightsaber..
They were out of stock of blue light sabers at the store so he had to buy a green one. It's in the director's cut.
It wasn't because of the blue sky, but because of the sand.

Every time I see the special edition of this film I just groan with Vader saying “no”. Originally he didn’t say anything before turning on the emperor. To me it works so much better that way, a man silently in a struggle within himself and in that silence seeing his son being murdered sacrifices himself to save his son.
Way better than the very operatic “nooooo!”
most of Lucas's later additions were poor, IMO. Don't even get me started on Han vs Greedo
Definitely the original was so much more impactful, without the silly noooooo
In the German Version Darth Vader is quiet. Because the Sound is remasterd in this Version.

All Leia's kisses for Luke were motivated by emotions: luck, jealousy, empathy, comfort. But not one of those kisses was motivated by feelings of romance.
Great way of putting it - this needs to be rolled out to so many people that don't get that.
George Lucas didn't decide that Luke and Leia were siblings and twins until late into the filming of ESB. So those kisses were what they were. 😊
I don’t know, I’m pretty sure he nailed her.

*EPISODE VI*
*JABBA THE HUTT, THE GOVERNOR, AND THE BANGIN' NEW SOUND SYSTEM*
I saw _Return of the Jedi_ in the Stuart (now Roccoco) Theater in Lincoln, Nebraska.
_Slightly longer ago, at a High School about three miles away ..._
It was my Senior year in High School, and I was several days from graduating.
The school held an assembly to acknowledge honor students, which I wasn't. Along with hundreds of other students, I'd be bored out of my mind for the next three hours.
Then it hit me, like a flash of lightning:
_The Stuart Theater is offering free admission to an obscure movie, so that they can show off her bangin' new sound system_ .
_Meanwhile, back at Return of the Jedi ..._
The Stuart's bangin' new sound system was not only bangin', it was astonishing.
I was waiting for this... Brilliant movie, great classic. I hope u continue the saga. Cheers
I have been looking forward to this for the last two weeks!!
You’re officially my favorite Star Wars reactor. I can’t wait for you to watch 1, 2, and 3.
Coby: "Well, still a bit mouthy for family". - I would say so. 😄
Coby: "Ewww!" - Exactly 😄
Everybody accuses the Ewoks are cute, but just remember that they were trying to eat Luke and Han.
And they definitely ate the stormtroopers they defeated.
Honored to share in your journey into this amazing world!
I loved it!
The kiss from Leia to Luke was nothing but anger and frustration and to get under Hans skin. Nothing more
Also in the real world brothers & sisters have been known to kiss that way when greeting each other. Never understood why people react to that kiss as if it's disgusting
Nah, she was a pervert, she wanted to know how it would be like. Hence why she told Luke “ some how I always knew”
@@thereisnopandemic that does not equate to perv at all. Try again

The Emperor's lightning destroyed the suit that kept Vader Alive
And also electrocuted his body (or what was left of it). But the damage to his life-support system inside his armor was evidently the main factor.
@@InternetBlog-ww3go Exactly it was one of the physical ways that the Emperor controlled Vader. He also never let him develop a better more robust suit.
Canonically, the suit is supposed to cause Vader extreme pain so it fuels his dark side power.
As a first time watcher you are almost completely spot on with your predictions.
It’s fairly impressive.
You’re a hell of a smart cookie, and you understand story telling on a level that makes me jealous.
Bravo-fucking-o!
Love this movie so much and the redemption of Anakin Skywalker at the end and the force ghosts chefs kiss "I am a Jedi like my father before me" Also the amount of smiling i did everytime your refered to Luke as just a friend i'm like "ohh hes much more than that hehe awesome reaction Coby😊
5:54 And in the original release Return of the Jedi is the first time we as an audience learn Darth Vader’s real name is Anakin Skywalker!

Interesting fact:
The scenes where Lando is talking to the alien copilot on the Millennium Falcon. Lando asks a question in English and the copilot responds in an "alien" language, right?

Coby, I'm glad that you picked up on the fact that Artoo-Detoo is the best Ride or Die anyone could ever ask for. Also.... When Coby saw the Ewok die, she finally realized that War is Hell.
Let's not forget a certain hobbit named Sam.....
they had a body builder named David Prowse playing Vader for everything except the Un-masking. One of the things that goes under the radar is the physical acting of Vader. You can feel his emotions through out all 3 original movies yet never see his face. Top tier physical acting by Prowse
Bob Anderson was Vader during duels.
Yeah, Prowse was taken away in the duels because he couldn’t fight.
"He's the last big baddie dodo-bird." Now, there's a phrase I haven't heard in a long time. (Nor have I ever seen this kind of enthusiasm for Ewoks.)
Yeah, really. The general verdict among us who saw the OT in theaters was that they sucked. But she makes me want to give them another chance...
I miss the "jub jub" song.

Hey Coby! 😊
I am LOVING your reactions (overall) and especially your Star Wars reactions!!! It’s been fun watching you become a SW need on-screen.
Loved your OT reactions. Keep it real Coby, it will serve you well. ;)
As for Leia's outfits, specifically her gold one... that is a slave outfit (chain and collar) and Jabba has had many slave girls (green girl at the start of RotJ was also collared and chained).
Coby, I think the suggestion is that Luke had a lot of Jedi training off screen between the two films, and this was his final visit of many to Yoda.
"They dont have the same mother"

They did not show Tatooine celebrating in the theatrical version. Only Endor.
I miss "Yub Nub"
James Earl Jones was only the voice. For the first 2 movies and this one until the death scene it was David Prowse in the suit-1 6'7 bodybuilding and strength athlete. The actor in the suit for the death scene was Sebastian Shaw.
❤❤❤ Hey folks! I love your work! Special shoutout to Coby! You are amazing! Thank you so much for the awesome experience. You rock!!! 🎉

Yeah, it's similar to how Lucas changed his mind from Vader killing Luke's father to being his father between the first two films.
And in the end the extended universe turned that concept into Luke's eventual wife, Mara Jade.
Heck, at one point, there was a script floating around that had:
1. Luke turning to the dark side…
2. Yoda surviving to the end of ROTJ and prodding Luke to turn back, and…
And every reactor says the same thing when Luke says it "What the hell are you thinking?"
Then Luke and Vader talk on the bridge and we get the first sign of humanity from Vader.
I don't think io him as a good man even in the good old days. He was a good fighter is the best it got.
@@MultiJp51 If you are speaking of the end of Empire Strikes Back, then I believe the reason he did not kill the commander was because he was deep in thought over his son.

@@wsbchk_ I am a OG SW fan, I saw them in theater the opening week. 'You are right we didn' t see Jabba until Jedi. The scene of Jabba in A New Hope was inserted for the special editions.
When A New Hope was originally shot, that scene was captured, with a bipedal human, as that was the original concept for Jabba’s character (“You’re a wonderful human being.”). After this was left on the cutting room floor, they were free to re-imagine Jabba’s physical form for ROTJ.
