Delighted this game has been released. Reading through the PDF now, but can't wait to see this series of videos demoing play in practice. Thanks for this Jim!
Welcome aboard!
Absolutely loved this. I just got into Star Trek a few months ago, and my TNG Captain's Log is on its way! Thanks for taking the time to go through the processes here. It's very much appreciated.
Happy to help!
Very helpful! Can't wait to get started on my first STA character.
Glad to hear it! I hope you have some amazing adventures!
This looks really interesting. I bought the PDF yesterday, and I think I'm going to get a copy of the book. Live Long and Prosper. 🖖
Hope you enjoy the read, either on PDF or print. #LLAP
this was incredibly helpful, just what i had been looking for - thanks jim!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching. Hope you grab a copy and make some amazing stories.
This is just a general comment, as I have only just started playing Captain’s Log - which, by the way, is brilliant and tremendous fun.
I feel very lucky to be alive at this point in time. I watched the original broadcasts of the original series in the late 1960s. I attended one of the first major Star Trek conventions in Chicago in 1975. My brothers and I wore our uniform tunics (I was Science). The main stage had a reconstruction of the bridge of the Enterprise, and the security staff were dressed as Klingons - in fact, we were brought up to the stage to be dead bridge crew members while the security guys had photos taken of them “capturing” the ship.
Then there were the movies, TNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, and on, and on…
But to have had Star Trek being so much a part of my life, it is a thrill to be able to enjoy the wealth of new offerings, both on the screen and at the gaming table.
Which brings me back to Captain’s Log. You mentioned in your unboxing video that this game was a labor of love. To be honest, that goes wholly without saying. The care, content, and even layout of these books are clear evidence of this fact. The introduction to Star Trek is better than any I could offer a newcomer, and if I had just stumbled into it, this would be the portal I would want. The rules are clear, well-presented, and inviting. And if I’m honest, getting other people to the table to play a Star Trek game isn’t an easy proposition (after all, I had years of trying to arrange games with the old FASA system).
For all these reasons, I wanted to take the time to thank you and all the contributors to Captain’s Log. Besides being an attractive addition to my gaming shelf, it is a treasured part of my personal ongoing mission of exploration. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to pull on my blue TOS tunic and take my station on the bridge.
Thank you so much! You just made my week. :D
Very nice. I don't have the book yet, but this walkthrough is helping me wait for the PDF release. :)
Glad it was helpful! I’ll be posting more soon to continue the story.
Playing along, I ended up with a Denobulan engineer who likes art and cultural studies. So a value is "engineering is art and she sees cultures through those lenses. Pretty interesting
That sounds great! I like the idea of looking at other cultures’ technology from an artistic perspective.
Hope you have fun!
Thank you for these videos
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
That was good. Thanks for sharing. I'm hoping you do it on a station. I'm interested in doing my campaign on a station but think it would be harder than if it was on a ship
Same. I was thinking of setting my game on DS6, on the border of the neutral zone, but not sure if the missions would work as well for a space station.
We’ll see where the dice fall. I like the idea of a station series too.
Great sample play, Jim!
Thanks, Michael! Uploading part 2 now!
Alternatively, I can imagine a TOS-era Suliban who has Horta DNA due to the ENT-era genetic manipulation.
I love it. I'll implement that into the draft. Thanks!
I always wanted to play a Reticulan (Gray) alien Science officer is that possible with this new RPG?
I don’t see why not. Use the guidance to create a new species, decide which three attributes get +1 during character generation, and off you go.
I've pre ordered it, I couldn't resist! Thanks for your reply and the video, looking forward to seeing the others!
@@PogUk111 Thanks, hope you enjoy!
Not gonna lie, kind of sad you didn't run with half-Suliban, half-Horta.
Someday...
Just picked uo this book. Been playing a Voyager game with Michael. I just rolled an entire Bridge crew. One full lifepath and the other Learn as you play. Can't wait to begin.
Have fun!
@@scribe_ineti following along. On Part 3 now. Answering the questions created by my Incident, theme, and such. Coming along nicely. Great resource you are making here.
Do you have any say in production and distribution? It makes no sense that you need more dice that come with the $20 dice pack. Why not sell dice sets that include ALL the dice needed to play?
You only need 2d20 to play Captain’s Log. We haven’t had a chance to develop d20 only packaging. The current dice blisters were designed for STA. I’m hoping to develop some new dice sets, but we need to sell through the existing ones first.
@@scribe_ineti ok. I was referring to STA where you need far more dice than come in the blister pack.
@@rumpleforeskin1275 Ah, you only really need 2d20 and some of the challenge dice, which are easily replaceable with standard d6s.
The tricorder set comes with 5d20 and 10d6.
@@scribe_ineti yeah, I just wish that they would make a blister pack with the five d20s and ten d6s. It's hard to get new players into the game if something as simple as dice sets are not easily accessible.
@@rumpleforeskin1275 Not sure what you mean by accessible. All the dice sets (Klingon, the three divisions, and Kirk’s dice) are available on the webstores and other retailers, and if you don’t want to buy the STA dice, you can use standard d20s and d6s.
Bought the book today. Besides the nifty PDFs, can't wait to handle the book itself. Picked the TOS cover, myself. 😊🖖
Awesome, I hope it brings you a lot of joy and a lot of creativity. Can't wait to read your stories!
@@scribe_ineti and thank you for your work in it. 🙂
