The end of this track, "please dont leave me here" is legitimately horrifying in context of the albums story. Nadir is bleak and crushing from start to finish.

A man who kills himself and experiences the hellish journey of the afterlife, begging for rest, only to be denied by god himself at the gates of heaven. That is doom.

    "Please don't leave me here"
He's essentially begging (Insert deity) to choose his fate and not to leave him in limbo, "between life and death and time".
That's deep as hell. Sometimes I wonder if LIFE is limbo, and our punishment for living past lives that were self-serving and not pleasing to whatever god exists.

    • @vilerecordings475
      @vilerecordings475 3 года назад +12

So powerful. I see it also as he's begging for hell. In the first song of the album he realizes he isn't getting into heaven with the scream "I weep" He is then shown hell in all it's agony and finally the void which he say's is the worst hell (being alone for eternity). He's begging for hell over forever between life and death and time. I think...

I recently had someone I know die. I had a dream that we were camping and we were all sitting outside, a bunch of people, and as it got late people started laying down and falling asleep. I stayed up next to the fire along with a couple other people and I remember someone got up and left and as they left the fire went out and as I went up to it to blow on it to get it going again, I saw it was just ash. When I woke up I heard the news that this person had died. I listened to this song that morning on the way to work and it hit me. A light switched off.

I watch you from across the lake
Where the waters remain forever still
I watch you from across the lake
Where the waters remain forever still
And I collapse to the bank still green
And scream hoarse with the whisper of the leaves
And you were bountiful then and I asked you why
    Small, frail, dependent, I
Should have to watch you walk from the shoreline, grey
You smiled something about life and something about time
Something about the winding length of mine
How I'd be ready when it came to that day
    But I am not
And every nerve recoils at the thought
That the vessels still remain but are filled with naught
    A light switched off
    A stopped clock
    A loss
    A light switched off
A stopped clock and a loss
    Death, take me home
    Death, take me home
    The cloak flaps blackly
    My fingers map the lines
Across the writing on your monuments
Of life and death and time
    The cloak flaps blackly
    My fingers map the lines
Across the writing on your monuments
    I ponder the winding
Of life and death and time
And I hope to God the next passage on the waiting raft is mine
Please don't leave me here between life and death and time
    Please don't leave me here
    Please don't leave me here
    Please don't leave me here
