    Congratulations Mr Vogt. It has an elegance and formality that is unmatched today and a grace when going down the road that demonstrates your care and hard work when restoring it.

    It's amazing that they made cars that gorgeous at affordable prices. The only car out there that could compare to it now would be a Rolls Royce and frankly, I would rather have your Lasalle.

    A really beautiful car, truly elegant. When I was growing up in the late 50's, a neighbor had a LaSalle Coupe, it was about a 1932 model, definitely an early 30's model. He was a dentist and drove that car to work every day.

    Very nice car and you gave excellent advice as far as tips for restorers. When I was in high school in the early to mid seventies, a classmate named Pat McCann of Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, owned a '33 La Salle just like yours. It was mechanically sound as he drove it regularly. He decided he would paint the car yellow so he went to the local hardware store and purchased yellow paint and a paint brush. That car just might be the one you have. You did a beautiful restoration regardless. It's possible that the passion you have for the car and the joy of the restoration process helped heal you from your illness. Thanks for the great video.

    Nice LaSalle. Each GM marque developed a “companion” name plate in 1926/1927. Only Chevrolet did not participate. Oakland had the Pontiac. Oldsmobile had the Viking. Buick had the Marquette. Cadillac had the LaSalle.

      It's funny... I came upon this video by accident- I was looking at a video about a classic Cadillac and saw the thumbnail for this video... when I saw the thumbnail the first thing I thought of was Archie Bunker!!! A lot of people don't even realize that the LaSalle Archie mentions in the song was a car! My grandfather had one of these so I always knew- and ALWAYS wanted one! Out of my budget though sadly...

    One of my all time favorites is a 1939 LeSalle. The grill work on all of the 1939 GM cars is my favorite, but the 1939 LeSalle is at the top of my list.......I wouldn't complain about the 1933 in your outstanding video either.

    He owns a La Salle but he knows very little about the company. The reason they terminated the brand was that they figured out that they could sell more units if the cars carried the Cadillac name. La Salle had never sold as well as the junior Packard, the 120. It had, however, consistently outsold Cadillac for 7 years running because it was more affordable, but they had always had to emphasize its connections to Cadillac in order to sell it.
    No, they never really had Oldsmobile engines, though in 1934 they did raid the Olds parts bin for the straight 8 cylinder block for the new, downsized La Salle engine, which they continued to use through 1936. Cadillac supplied the aluminum pistons and other parts. The 1934-1936 La Salle also had the same wheelbase and body platform as the Olds. Sharing a chassis with Olds allowed them to be among the first to offer the new "knee action" independent front suspension that would soon spread to other GM lines. It also allowed them to cut costs while keeping quality high.
    The price gap was between Cadillac and Buick, not Cadillac and Oldsmobile. The price structure went: Chevrolet, Pontiac, Oakland, Oldsmobile, Viking, Marquette, Buick, La Salle, and Cadillac. Pontiac was the junior companion of Oakland. Viking was the upscale companion of Oldsmobile. Marquette was the junior brand of Buick. La Salle was the junior brand of Cadillac.
    The Marquette and the Viking succumbed almost immediately in 1930 to the Great Depression as GM began cutting prices across the board, which eliminated the gap between Oldsmobile and Buick. Oakland died a year later as well, leaving behind its junior, Pontiac, to carry on in its stead. La Salle was able to postpone its demise until the end of the 1940 model year by the aforementioned cost cutting in 1934-1936. It lived on for another decade as the entry-level Cadillac Series 61. The new combined sales numbers for Cadillac gave the brand additional luster and allowed it to completely dominate the post-war US luxury car market.
    The 1950s saw the rise of model inflation as the Series 61 was dropped and the Series 62 became the new entry level. The hardtop Coupe and Sedan de Ville gradually evolved from an upscale trim level of the Series 62 to become the standard trim level by 1965 when the Series 62 was renamed the Calais. It's a shame that they didn't reuse the La Salle name and thus commemorate that illustrious brand. They did, however, use La Salle on several concept cars, including what would become the Buick Riviera.

      1934 LaSalle used a modified Olds straight eight. It was during the depression and they wanted a lower priced companion to the Cadillac. At one point luxury car sales were so bad they considered dropping Cadillac completely.

    "between the Oldsmobile and the Cadillac"? It's always been my understanding that Buick was just under Cadillac, then Oldsmobile was third in line. Can you explain why you made that statement?

    Very beautiful car and great video!.........During the era of the LaSalle, wouldn't the GM status gap between Oldsmobile and Cadillac already have been occupied by Buick? It would seem that the problem with the LaSalle brand was that it was an answer to a problem that didn't exist.

    • @jamesmcinnis208
      @jamesmcinnis208 2 года назад +1

      The problem did exist. Packard's sales were going strong. I think that Buick and Oldsmobile were in the same price range.

    A wonderful car but the owner doesn't know what he is talking about. He said that the reason for the LaSalle was that GM didn't have a car between Oldsmobile and Cadillac?? What about BUICK!! LaSalle ended in 1940 mainly due to the fact that it was squeezed out by the upper end Buick Limited and the newly introduced lower end Cadillac Series 61 and that left LaSalle with no market.

    Buick has always been seen as more prestigious and luxurious than Oldsmobile.
