Small EDC Olympus XZ-2. Bit larger with EVF would be Stylus1s and even larger is EM5III with 14-150II or 12-50.

The rx100vii is a pretty great point and shoot.

Most point and shoot cameras are not as good as the better phone cameras these days. I’ve been very pleasantly surprised with my new iPhone 15 Pro Max, which replaced an eight year old iPhone8. Although I much prefer to use a proper camera like my Olympus and Panasonic and Leica cameras, I must admit that in many. circumstances the phone matches them for photography and video. As for the LX100, I have a Leica D-Lux 7 and it is a superb little camera. I am a small collector of James Bond 007 products and that was the reason I bought the limited edition, but I really enjoy using it as well.
In practical terms the GX80 is a better camera, with tilting screen and pop-up-flash, but it’s hard to find an equivalent bright telescoping compact lens for this. The LX100/Leica D-Lux gives a different user experience and satisfaction and that is somewhat important, at least to me, otherwise I would use my iPhone instead of any of these in the context of this video discussion.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I also feel the user experience of a dedicated camera is much more satisfying. That is really cool that you got the 007 version. There just aren't any fast zoom lenses as compact as the one on the D-Lux & Lx100 cameras. Even if there were, I imagine it would cost more than just getting the LX100.

@@RobTrek I’ve also got the much rarer Q2 007 edition plus the 60th anniversary James Bond Royal Mint silver coin collection. I draw the line at the 70th anniversary Omega Seamaster watch though. There’s always the 70th and 75th anniversary editions to look forward to in the rather doubtful event of me living that long and in possession of most faculties. Time and tide wait for no man, and that realisation gave me enough justification to indulge in these luxury products. I love owning them, looking at them and indeed learning about and using them while I can enjoy it.

Seems to me the only point and shoot camera worth buying is the TG-7 for $400. I have heard some people use it for macro instead of a bigger camera. Regarding smart phones quality, check out Rick Sammon on Facebook, where he has gone to Africa and Antarctica with only a Samsung Galaxy S22 with 10x optical zoom and an iPhone 14 (not the latest version). He does still use a Sony for Bald Eagles.
