Im dating a woman 5 years older than me. She does quite a bit for me. Cooks, cleans, is very nice, and appreciates everything i do for her. Back in 1985 when I was just 18 years old I dated a Japanese woman that was 40 when I worked at this private club and she was incredible in bed and she had no kids and she made good money and she took care of me. She did my laundry , she cooked for me , she cleaned my house, she bought me clothes. She owned her own place she had her own car. I rented my place and had a car too, just not nearly as new or nice . I paid my own bills and whatnot but she made my life a lot easier.I never asked her to do anything, or to pay for anything. Someone else noticed it. I was talking to a woman at work in a different branch and afterwards someone said her age and I was blown away. She was 23 but I thought she was in her 40s. I see it with my nices friends too and it's not the "trying to look older" thing of the past. They just look older.

Here’s a perspective. TLDR; some grown Men just want to date a grown Woman. I’m 29yrs old, dating a 25yr old woman. We’ve dated for 3-4yrs and we’re on the edge of splitting up, 100% my choice. This absolutely comes from her lack of emotional maturity and financial maturity. I’ve been paying ALL the bills since she moved in, even after we moved from my place to a new place together. She now works far less and makes FAR less money after the beginning of our relationship. I take us on dates. I buy groceries. And when she sends me a text in the morning about how stressed she is about going to work this morning (second and last day of work for her this week) for her 6hr shift and the fact she’s so broke she can’t get herself a coffee (I filled her gas tank up earlier this week, so she’s worried about coffee now). I was looking for a P A R T N E R, not a dependent. I’ve dated these women throughout my teens and 20s and I’m so fed up. So I have a lot less pity for them than I have for other friends that have been addicts. I'm still there for them, but I will not enable them in any way or give them money, and my full help will not be extended until they go to detox and stay clean. And some guys were already pretty mature in high school and they didn't need huge changes made just like most of the women I know. Those guys never had problems getting, and more importantly keeping chicks interested in them. But a lot of them who are now in their 40s+ are still immature and still driving whatever girlfriend they have at the time nuts with the dumb decisions they make until the girl eventually go nuts and they break up. He ends up thinking she's crazy, and the woman ends up leaving with the feeling that she would have been better off talking to a wall for the past year. I've seen it so many times. Immature guys are funny, and funny attracts people. But once they actually settle down they start realizing, "this guy might not be good for the long term. It was fun before, but now that we're living together and I have to depend on him to take care of his half of responsibilities, it's not working out". Is basically the takeaway I see from their relationships. And as much as I love those friends of mine... you can't fix stupid. Which is exactly why those guys are fun to be friends with in the first place lol. They're just not great for long term relationships. They could at most be a fling for an older woman, but guys like that will just never be on your level of maturity no matter how old they get, and as a result usually don't even date chicks their own age let alone older than them. Just a note: the girl I am happily with today started as a work situationship due to only being a seasonal job and otherwise living several hours away. With other things being priority for both of us, we went two years of not fully dedicating to each other, a couple outreaches here and there on both sides and decided to call it exclusive after the third year started and we both had freedom to turn us into a regular thing.

I'd go farther than that, you BOTH need to be young when you get together to be malleable enough to grow together. I just don't believe (as someone that's 50) that you are remotely flexible enough to build that kind of relationship as you age. I personally think 25-30 is about the cutoff, once you hit that age (male or female) you've had over a DECADE of being the captain of your own ship, and always getting your way with everything. That's A LOT to give up. Not to mention that we all get more rigid and less amenable to compromise as we get older. If you get together when you're younger you've slowly and organically negotiated all of those sticking points, doing that all once when you're older is just not something that I see happening for most people. the whole thing is a huge mess, we need to marry fairly young imo.

It's a tough thing, but the rigidity of age does NOT make it easier in any way. I was almost too old to work with when I got married at 25, almost undateable. Too much time as the master of my own universe. Were I out in the world single at my age (God forbid) I would NOT be looking for the same thing. You have to accept that it's going to be MUCH lower key, potentially short lived and generally not happily ever after. Everyone middle aged is already in various ruts, and the chances of their ruts and your ruts all lining up are VERY slim. Best you can hope for are to enjoy the times when those ruts align, and make the most fulfilling life you can. But the optimal ending of the story is different once you're into middle age for sure.

I mean, I've always liked older women that had responsibilities and had their shit straight... not decades older, mind you, but at least women that had more life experience to a degree. A little anecdote: I tried dating a girl 4 years younger than me once. I grew up in the ass end of the 80s, so I am not gonna pretend I was an 80s kid or anything. I played some old skool and 80s rock in my car once on the way back from going to local Pokemon TCG tournament which was like an hour drive back and forth. She couldn't stand 30 mins of my music, so she was practically undateable. If I date someone who is like 5-10 years older than me, than at least I wouldn't have to suffer through that again.

My ex girlfriend is 15 years older than me. One of the best relationships I've ever had. We broke up in 2021 (mutual) and are still friends to this day. She even came and saw me in the ICU last year. She accepted (and accepts) me for who I am. We've never argued and if we ever upset each other we were (and still are) able to calmly talk it out.
Honestly, for me its just that once i turned 18, i told myself I wouldn't be going for anyone younger than myself, no matter how sweet and great they may be. Women on average just seem to be already mature after high school for the most part.
There wasn't some drastic change with most of my female friends in that department from then until now. Male friends from school on the other hand... some are dead from bad choices...a couple of them grew up mentally, made big changes and really turned their lives around for the better. Super proud of those guys.
A couple of them aren't dead yet but aren't making the right changes they need and I fear it's only a matter of time before they succumb to not wanting to right choices for themselves.
But hey, apparently being bored unless you're high is more important to some people. They aren't numbing any pain, they had perfectly fine childhoods. So I have a lot less pity for them than I have for other friends that have been addicts. I'm still there for them, but I will not enable them in any way or give them money, and my full help will not be extended until they go to detox and stay clean.
And some guys were already pretty mature in high school and they didn't need huge changes made just like most of the women I know. Those guys never had problems getting, and more importantly keeping chicks interested in them.
But a lot of them who are now in their 40s+ are still immature and still driving whatever girlfriend they have at the time nuts with the dumb decisions they make until the girl eventually go nuts and they break up. He ends up thinking she's crazy, and the woman ends up leaving with the feeling that she would have been better off talking to a wall for the past year.
I've seen it so many times.
Immature guys are funny, and funny attracts people. But once they actually settle down they start realizing, "this guy might not be good for the long term. It was fun before, but now that we're living together and I have to depend on him to take care of his half of responsibilities, it's not working out". Is basically the takeaway I see from their relationships. And as much as I love those friends of mine... you can't fix stupid. Which is exactly why those guys are fun to be friends with in the first place lol. They're just not great for long term relationships.
They could at most be a fling for an older woman, but guys like that will just never be on your level of maturity no matter how old they get, and as a result usually don't even date chicks their own age let alone older than them. Just a note: the girl I am happily with today started as a work situationship due to only being a seasonal job and otherwise living several hours away. With other things being priority for both of us, we went two years of not fully dedicating to each other, a couple outreaches here and there on both sides and decided to call it exclusive after the third year started and we both had freedom to turn us into a regular thing.

If you get together when you're younger you've slowly and organically negotiated all of those sticking points, doing that all once when you're older is just not something that I see happening for most people.

Were I out in the world single at my age (God forbid) I would NOT be looking for the same thing. You have to accept that it's going to be MUCH lower key, potentially short lived and generally not happily ever after. Everyone middle aged is already in various ruts, and the chances of their ruts and your ruts all lining up are VERY slim. Best you can hope for are to enjoy the times when those ruts align, and make the most fulfilling life you can. But the optimal ending of the story is different once you're into middle age for sure.

I mean, I've always liked older women that had responsibilities and had their shit straight... not decades older, mind you, but at least women that had more life experience to a degree.
A little anecdote: I tried dating a girl 4 years younger than me once. I grew up in the ass end of the 80s, so I am not gonna pretend I was an 80s kid or anything. I played some old skool and 80s rock in my car once on the way back from going to local Pokemon TCG tournament which was like an hour drive back and forth. She couldn't stand 30 mins of my music, so she was practically undateable. If I date someone who is like 5-10 years older than me, than at least I wouldn't have to suffer through that again.

@@TheRedRaven_ I've tried keeping it to a +/- of 5 years, but I don't mind pressing it to within 10 years older of me if that's all I can get at the end of the day as the most extreme exception. The thought of dating a girl who could have been at the beginning of middle school by the time I was out of high school is not something I would be willing to stomach (much like how Shoeonhead stated at the end of her video), but as the person who initiates the engagement, I don't mind going older because at least I know what I am getting myself into. Pretty much all it comes down to for me by the end of the day is, date younger for a chance at family or date older for stability.
What fucks me up so much in this new era is that I’m 37m she’s 32f and I’ve been with my girl 13 years but she still doesn’t comprehend me not being a social media type person. I have only 30 something closer friends or family on fb and if I get her like a gift or take her out to eat or it’s her bday if I don’t post about her or what I got or where we went we may as well not have gone at all. Like I have to put on this weird fake public facade to show people my life instead of just living it. Like my actions have no meaning to her unless I post about it and I’ll never get it. I love her and am old fashioned and thought the relationship between us two not us and the public.

I mean, i don't really blame them. Thinking on my life, i've actually gotten more complements from more older women than i have from the ones my age too- and was when i was in my late teens, 20's, 30's and even now in my early 40's. The truth is that they love younger men who are very respectful and looks at them like they do everyone else. They like you for the things that matter the most and they like it when you just see a woman when you look them. Not a "hag" or "old lady". They don't forget that kind of treatment either.

The phenomena of the "70% of men are considered unattractive and invisible to women" made this trend inevitable. Those guys have to go SOMEWHERE. And society in general doesn't complain about young "boss babes" going after the 6 figure minimum man except people who aren't them or can't lock one down. This is just a mirror image of the 6 foot tall or more, 6 figure or more, etc. requirement on men, in the other direction.

I agree, the vast majority of 20-something women reject the vast majority of 20-something guys, so what are those guys supposed to do.
That said, I'm sure that ten year older women are still only going to date 20-something guys that are significantly above-average in some way (whether in looks or some other reason). So "cougars" might cause some 7/10 guys to get laid, but like 60% of all guys or something are still screwed.
So maybe it's something like:
- 20-something guy who is decently attractive, and has a house: can find 20-something girlfriend
- 20-something guy who is decently attractive but doesn't have a house: the 20-something girls have so many options that they reject him, but cougars might want him.
- the other 60% of guys: still screwed

As a 21yo man, I can confirm, I don’t go outside and therefore have no idea if this is true.
My ex girlfriend is 15 years older than me. One of the best relationships I've ever had. We broke up in 2021 (mutual) and are still friends to this day. She even came and saw me in the ICU last year.
She accepted (and accepts) me for who I am. We've never argued and if we ever upset each other we were (and still are) able to calmly talk it out.
Honestly, for me its just that once i turned 18, i told myself I wouldn't be going for anyone younger than myself, no matter how sweet and great they may be. Im talking to someone who is a lot older and shes just great to be around, sure she might have her life more in check than myself but i dont see her as that but rather as the person who i met and got to know and now like. I dont like to be "pampered" with gifts as I'd rather give a gift myself and to see them smile as thats what makes me happy. I just want a normal relationship without all that bs that's normally included with some women around my age (should mention that im 21 rn).
