  • Shoulder passive range of motion (PROM) & active assisted range of motion (AAROM) exercises get movement back in the shoulder after an injury or surgery. If you’ve had a surgery, make sure you know your precautions. Buy the BlueRanger Shoulder Pulley here: amzn.to/2XeDvtm (affiliate link)
    The first shoulder exercises are for PROM, though it’s really hard to do a completely passive movement when you are awake, but these are the closest you will get. Pendulum exercises and using a pulley are a great way to get motion passively in your shoulder.
    In this video, I'm using the RangeMaster BlueRanger Shoulder Pulley system. The pulley is easy to adjust and has a nice door hanging attachment, or can also be hung from the ceiling.
    For shoulder AAROM, you can use a table, countertop, or chair to help assist your arm with the movement. You can also use a PVC pipe, cane, or even broom stick to get AAROM as well.
    Finally, a child’s pose or prayer stretch is another great way to get AAROM or even PROM in your shoulder.

    Doctor Jo's videos have helped me overcome a recent shoulder issue and have enabled me to exercise more robustly again. I hope people will do as I've done and contribute to Dr. Jo for her excellent, helpful videos. One physical therapy visit probably costs $50 or more in the US plus transportation time and costs. These videos give us in-home PT guided by an experienced professional.

    I just started physical therapy for a "frozen shoulder" - from surgery on rotator cuff years ago. One specialist said I needed shoulder replacement surgery! However, after seeing a physical therapist, I started doing some of the same stretches in your video and in three weeks time I've already had more than 10% improvement. I love your video. The explanation of the movements is spot on. Easy to understand. Thank you!!!

    Thanks Jo, my hubby has a sore shoulder and we're having an argument whether it's a pulled muscle, that's what he thinks, or an impingement, that's my diagnosis. I've got calcific tendinitis in both shoulders and his symptoms are the same! I will show him this video and he can do the exercises. I'm right!! 😂😂😂

    I have four screws in my shoulder from surgery back in 09. Over time from knowledge I got from massage school i have strengthened my muscles over time but every so often when my shoulder relaxes all the way it will pop in and out example diamond pushups at fast passes will cause it too pop in and out. Also on some exercises I feel weakness in my glenoid cavity. Like after my surgery speaking of that for got to tell ya I was on Medicaid at the time could not afford pt. Medicaid thought it to be a luxury at the time so I never got pt on it. Back to why I’m asking you this. I think I am stuck with good rom form not getting any pt from the start. I am afraid to push hard of full rom cause of past experiences. But I have done massage for 7 years. Stopped at 2016 my shoulder has gotten stronger. Would it be still possible for me to get full rom or not.

    Hello Doctor Jo. I have a question: what shoulder injury / injuries could cause me pain when I'm doing flexion motion (similar to the one you're doing at 4:10 - 4:15)? I'm trying to enumerate and rule out all the possible injuries I may or may not have.

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  2 года назад

      It really could be a few different things. Is there pain only when you are actively lifting? Or is there pain when it's lifted passively, like in the video section you were referring to?

    • @sychkid
      @sychkid 2 года назад

      @@AskDoctorJo Both but it's more painful when I actively lift than when it's passively lifted.

    Hey Jo! I just discovered your videos. Hopefully it helps me. I have a doubt, you mentioned 30 seconds for 3 times in some videos. So we have to do those stretches 3 times daily? Is that it?

    • @AskDoctorJo
      @AskDoctorJo  5 лет назад +1

      You do the stretches 3 times in a row, holding each time for 30 seconds. You can do them 2-3 times a day.

      Hi Dr Jo, I had a MRI done which shows that I’ve a 0.5mm year on my superspinator last December! I’ve not lifting weights ever since which I don’t feel much of improvement or reduces any soreness. Will you advice me which the tear will heal by itself ? Is 0.5mm is a small injury? PT really does not help so I stop it! My Orthopedic doctor told me it’s not a big deal injury but I’m sore daily. I follow your program and your advice be valuable to me. Thanks
