    How Skillet got their name:
When John was forming the early version of the band, Someone asked him to describe the band's sound. He answered that it was a culmination of different genres, sounds, and flavors. When he said that, a nearby friend chimed in with "like a Skillet" and it just stuck.

    • @mikehall4190
      @mikehall4190 5 лет назад +5

@@adrianiancu82 Well, actually, I follow this channel very closely, and about a month ago he did a reaction to Skillet's Awake and Alive, where the tag line was "And the drummer's the singer?!?" (look it up) He was quite flabbergasted that Jen was playing drums AND doing vocals as well. There were numerous comments, and requests about the Ledger EP, and Jen, but it was ALL news to Alex.
Quite a few requests were made for Alex to react to Ledger, but to this point in time, he's done absolutely nothing about doing, or acknowledging any of the many requests that were made for Jen's EP. that day.
In point of fact, I was surprised that there were so few requests or comments for Ledger today, especially after the comment he made today about liking her vocals. I think that I got 117 likes for this comment, but the requests for Ledger a month ago were getting 100 to 300 likes for some of them.
So, no, Alex doesn't know (or remember, anyway) anything about Jen's EP, and as far as his future plans about doing her in the future, your guess is as good as mine. Although I wouldn't hold my breath about that. Especially since now that he's started work, and is doing a LOT fewer videos since then. :-D 😅😄

Late to the party, but I always had the exact same question about hearing God. I had never heard him and could only imagine it. So the first time I heard God speak was exactly how your mother describes it. I was in the guest bed at my grandparent's house halfway across the country from where I lived, feeling extremely insecure and depressed. A preconception I had about myself had been shattered and so my outlook on my life and my place in it was really low. There was a lot of self-hatred and deprecation at the time.
But all in a moment, at midnight when I couldn't sleep and was kind of drowning in my own self-loathing, a powerful thought came to me that completely spun everything around. My mental position just shifted completely and I was overwhelmed with a sense of hope that it was going to be alright. That moment was the opportunity to turn my life around and move forward instead of shrinking back.
The second time I was spoken to by God was years later when I was struggling with my professional future. I had been working for 4 years at the time in a dead end job. I was good at it, but I didn't enjoy it and was struggling to maintain the motivation professionally and personally. My younger brother was finishing up his process to join the Army and I decided that would be a good fit for me. I did well on my ASVAB and was well on my way through the process when a waiver I needed was denied. The recruiter gave me the option to sweep the subject of the waiver under the rug so to speak, but I felt that it wasn't God's plan for me to join the Army without that waiver.
But thanks to having chosen an MOS to go into, I immediately felt that doing that job in the private sector - aircraft maintenance - was the most natural thing in the world, so I began doing my research about what it would take to become Airframe & Powerplant certified. Well, I told my dad about the decision and about the problems involved. Where I lived, the only two technical schools that provided A&P courses were hours away from anyone I knew and could live with, and cost thousands of dollars I couldn't take out school loans for. To top it all off, my roommate was moving back in with his parents in a couple of months so I had nowhere to live after that. My dad talked to my grandparents (the same ones I was staying with years before) who got super excited because a church friend worked as a teacher at the local community and technical college in their A&P program. They offered a place for me to live, the school was minutes away from their home and cost half as much as the ones in my home state (and I could get financial aid because it was a community college), and so I found myself moving a long way away to pursue a career for the first time. God set it all up perfectly for me.
So yeah, God speaking to you is rarely, I think, literally hearing words. It's motivation, outlook shifts, and major life decisions that seem to just fall into place. God has a way of speaking that is more profound than just words. Sorry for the long-winded comment XD

I took it as a message of fighting against depression. The character in the song was ready to give up, and then heard the whisper of God to not give up. You're not going to die tonight, you found the strength to keep fighting.

  • @coreymcdaniel2759
    @coreymcdaniel2759 5 лет назад +92

I personally love this song because everyone is fighting something in thier lives whether it be cancer depression addiction etc. Music like this helps remind us of why we should keep fighting and winning that battle every day or at least it does for me. Its worth it. There's still so much to see and do and live for and I felt those lyrics really hit home for me in that way. Others get a different feeling or perspective from it and that's ok. Cooper actually has been very vocal lately saying that people shouldn't use music as thier savior. We need to focus on the bible and the message more than music to bring people into the faith. I agree but music is powerful too. His point is people are utilizing musicians instead of God. He's got a solid point. I also want to emphasize that Christianity is a religion but the Christian faith is a personal relationship with God and Jesus. Big difference that people often get confused. Whatever you believe or choose not to believe I think you are all awesome. I respect you as a person and your choices. At the end of the day we are all just rocking out together and that's what matters. \m/ \m/

Both songs are incredibly powerful. I love the messages behind them and are quickly becoming two of my favorites from this band. Give them a shot Alex! They truly represent a small portion of how much God loves us. That love truly is unending and unfathomable in the litteral sense of the words. When you start to connect that with the crucifixion you will really start to get an idea of how powerful these messages are and how they impact our us as well as our lives today. The idea that God can Litterally hold our hearts like the stars and calm the storms in our hearts is amazing. That is what God's love is. Again as I always say no matter what you believe you are still awesome and I respect your choice.

Many times it would be better to describe them as a band whose members are also Christians.
I’m a Christian and a (retired) magician. But I wasn’t a “Christian magician” - my show was just my show without necessarily preaching anything.

Apparently, the band name started out as a joke/pun because it was like "different flavors of music mixing together in a skillet" and it just stuck to them. It's funny cuz when you see them in concert and people chant their name, calling for an encore, since it's hard to enunciate the "s" it sounds like they're shouting "kill it" not Skillet. It's even a pun I've heard John Cooper make a lot, "Kill it with skillet."

I’d have to find the link but there’s an interview here on RUclips where John Cooper talks about how the name Skillet came to be. Summarizing it and paraphrasing it from memory, I believe he said he had multiple bands and ideas going on and decided to take all of the ideas into a skillet, metaphorically. It then stuck as a band name and he’s used it since. That link is very informative though. I’d have to look for it.

@@bleachdragon88 From my understanding it becomes a huge struggle because too many things in life trying to pull you away from God- and thats kind of what you said as i heard it lol, eternal life isn't a reward though is something to keep in mind though, you don't get rewarded for anything really, eternal life is what wanting a relationship with God entails because God gave us life and wants us to live but of course hes not going to force us to be with him and the only other option is death, that is just the nature and rules of life in general you're either alive or dead and its too easy for a young mind to try to come up with some kind of "compromise," where they think God should do this or that, let the dead in sin live beyond death..... problem with that is sin carries a wage and Jesus paid that wage for those who accept him, those who don't will be their own sacrifice for their sin which consumes their soul in the process. But yea unless you have a certain mind where you're at peace, accepting the gift of life is really a huge fight and that avenue usually carries a lot of pain and suffering leading up to either salvation or condemnation. But its also good to remember all of the things that happen in this world, all the injustice, brutal crimes and such, God is watching and in more ways than one experiencing all of it, all of the sins done are things committed against him and that then answers the question of why all evil will ultimately amount to nothing because God's righteous vengeance is absolute and so is his love and forgiveness.

Hey, first time on your channel and this video was in my recommendations list, also I love the fact that you’re proud of your mom.
    1:26
Let’s get into this reaction because Not Gonna Die is one of my favorite songs from Skillet because it’s aggressive in its tone and it hits you with that “Your life is worth meaning” vibe to it and I love it. Unlike other Christian songs where it’s usually about praising God or some cliche bullshit, Skillet’s music has a much deeper meaning other than spreading the message of God. This band rises up warriors and readies then for battle for what they believe in, another song is called “angel with a shotgun” by the cab which is basically someone giving up their faith for someone’s life and sacrificing themselves for that particular person they love.
    1:30
I agree, be nice to the good moms that work their tailbone off so you can have a better future.
    1:53
What a powerful song to get yourself in the mood to fight someone
    4:07
And I hate it when that happens, like you’re already indulged in the song and then the WiFi says “fuck this shit I’m out” and just goes off the face of the planet never to be seen again.
    4:20
What they are saying is don’t die yet, you have so much to live for and it’s essentially a calling out to people who are suicidal and want to end their lives.
    4:26
That’s like saying a black guy who talks with no accent doesn’t sound like a black person. Why does Christian music have to sound holy enough to be called Christian music. I say that’s bullshit.
    4:40
    *Bursts out laughing*
    4:56
    Here we go
    6:40
Finally, got to the end of the video and the song. I love it for all its worth. Also, I might go and listen to it after this video

Even an atheist like me can appreciate the positive message, the passion of the musicians and the music itself. Great band! Great song!

Skillet is my favorite band and their songs are so retalable to my life. Their lyrics music video of Not gonna die is good. It has a lion and a little girl.

You should have played the intro as well to get the whole experience.

A few years ago Skillet lead off their set at Winter Jam with this song. It had a sick intro. Rocked out hard.
