Exactly! 💯 %
That was Jonathan Chew and Tate Olsen on the violin and cello.. they played on the record.. the 2013 Rise album
In many of Skillet's live performances, they open with some awesome strings. I believe they use the same guys each time, but they always sound awesome and rock out the whole time.
Yes all my favorites have the strings!
This is a really great song. The entire rise album was good.
Seth acutally has so much solo techniques in his arsenal, unfortunately he doesnt really get to show off, he has impressing sweep and tapping, as well as pinch harmonics,he shows of in vids, very underrated guitarist.
They have said seth gets to be a bit free on this new album coming out in jan 2022, so im excited to hear his riffs and solos
Seth and Korey are the unsung heroes of Skillet. John and Jen get all the attention, but without Seth's guitar and Korey pretty much doing EVERYTHING they would be lost.
@@Rocco1332 exactly
Seth is never going to get the credit he deserves of being a great guitar player simply because he is in Skillet. Of course, we all love Skillet, but the public slaps the “Christian Band” label on them and somehow that discounts everything they do. Even Jen, who everyone loves, will never be fully accredited for her talent for the same reasons. Without question, Skillet is one of the great rock/metal bands, but will never get listed in anyone’s top countdown.
Looking forward to seeing/hearing more of Seth's guitar rifts!
Totally agree, about Seth and Korey, and Korey even more so gets overlooked. She does more than anyone on the band. But even I have to admit, I love Jen, and fell in love with her and Skillet because of her harmonies with John, and their music/sound ... it's so good!
@@ghfantexas6848 exactly right, Seth and Ben where extreamy underrated
the strings are real, Skillet is incredible on this
Remeber the live performance u reacted to a while back of this song, wesaw one of the cello players on stage
This entire album is strong. I put on Rise whenever I’m doing work around the house to keep motivated. Jen’s British accent really comes through on this song.
This song has an extended intro that comes with the album that utilizes a choir and vocals that give it an extra nod of creativity. I can’t listen to this song without that intro now. Just search not gonna die with intro on RUclips.
The intro elevates the entire song.
This was from their concept album Rise (2013).
This song contends for top five for sure. So glad to see you get into these guys as much as you have. I’ve watched a ton of Skillet reactions and yours are the best. They’re so good musically and you’re great at pointing out everything they do. I’ve even grown to like a few songs more because of little things that you were able to explain that I just never picked up on before so thank you.
But there’s still a ton of Skillet songs for you to get to😜 so keep em coming🤘🏼
And yeah, you did definitely did a reaction to the live performance 🤣🤣
You gave it a 9.1 i belive
Yes, I was like, I thought he did this, but I remember now, he commented on how Korey rocked it out with the bass player and how John was out done by the rest. He just didn't get to see how much John runs around in that particular video
@@kellystrickland7412 yep!
As always so enjoyed the reaction and you made my day:) Hope you and the Mrs. have a blessed day!
2013 song release with album Rise
Also in the past albums skillet was more Industrial metal so that's were the pads are coming from.
Not Gonna Die was a good song when I first listened to it.
Then I listened to it again and it didn’t hit with me.
For a few months, I didn’t really like it.
Now?
2nd best song of Rise EASILY.
Not Gonna Die is betting an 8.7/10 for me. Hah! Just like you!
The reason I didn’t like this song before was the lack of rock. Now hearing it again, that solo is freaking amazing! And the opening guitar, for a split second going up in pitch, was really really neat. Not Gonna Die’s instrumental is good. Ok? Really good!
Vocally. Just like you said at 16:03 - 16:08, NGD is the vocal equivalent of literal heaven. Jen being in this song is easily the best part about it. Speaking of, my favorite all time moment of this song was at the end with Jen. John’s powerful leading voice, especially in the chorus, makes you feel alive. ALIVE. John is good. Jen is good. ( I will talk about my favorite part of the song in a minit. John + Jen? For me, it’s like Nutella and Toast. The chorus.. the chorus of Not Gonna Die is so powerful and emotionally uplifting. Not just that. They do a repeat of the line from the second verse, except this time with Jen. And they emphasis on the last three words, separating them and saying each with power. That was EPIC! Now, my favorite part of the song. Jen’s last vocal performance, saying the title of the song with John a total of 5 times. Her last saying, at 12:28 , is SO… SO EVERYTHING! SO POWERFUL, SO ANGELIC, SO BEAUTIFULLY IMPRESSIVE, SO HIGH FOR JEN! This song, just because of that, is in my opinion, the vocal of Skillet.
What does that mean? I feel like this song, is the best song from Skillet, from a vocal standpoint.
I know I said the reason BFTD was my number three Skillet song was for the vocals, but that song was lacking in Jen. John himslef in BFTD is nothing but sheer power, but John and Jen make a song angelic, harmonic, and so god dam beautiful.
Final score. 8.7/10. I have spoken! 🔨🔨🔨
Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. The definition of this song is beautiful.
The song was off of the album Rise from 2013. So you pretty much nailed it. Surprised you have not heard this one before; it's like one of the top 10 Skillet songs, popularity-wise. Great reaction; glad you were pleased with it. I love this song! 😁 They did have a violin player named Jonathan Chu at this time, so the strings are most likely real.
Random question: How often do you listen to Skillet, outside of reactions? Never, every once in a while, sometimes, a bit, etc. Just wondering! 🙃
Yeah, but it's definitely tracked during concerts.
@@kellystrickland7412 Yeah... unfortunately. Not to mention the straight-up lip sync on Awake and Alive and Whispers. 😑
@@kellystrickland7412 I’m actually almost positive this is not tracked live. Unlike awake and alive and some others
@@graysonk363 just the strings during concerts ... they don't usually have violin player now
@@kellystrickland7412 oh yeah the violin is tracked. I thought you were talking about the whole song.
Yes another one of my favorites and this song sounds good live I think this song has a violin played in it I don’t remember remember off the top of my head and I think this song was from 2012 or 2013 off the album rise and you were right later skillet and you were right about Jen to
Oh your also one of my favorite react channels cause I love how honest you are
Skillet... ok on here sooner than a week later lol. This is definitely one if my favorites! Love the strings! Love Jen, and the drum beats, and their harmonies! Also Love it when you go back to listen again, as someone else said, we're like yes, do it! When the two compliment each other it's so awesome! One of my favorite things to do is guess what you're going to score it. I was a little bit off, I guessed 8.9 to 9.1
Hometown hero's ....hello.
Kenosha WI.
Just an FYI, John (lead singer) and Korey (female guitarist) are married. This song was released in the album "Rise" in 2009.
Also, I love your videos. They are amazing. I have watched a few of them. I love Skillet. If you could do a video on Psycho In My Head live video. It is by Skillet.

@@THEDavidHeretic Correct
Actually, this song is from their album Rise, the first one with Seth. As for the strings, you could be right, but I wouldn't be overly surprised if the strings are real. They have a cellist and had a violinist. Seth's guitar solos give me chills 'cause he's so absolutely amazing. I caught that smile on your face when Jen's vocals--you really seem to love her. For good reason, too, because she's amazing. I really love your reviews because watching them is like an education because of how much you know about music.
Jonathan Chu (violin) and Tate Olsen (cello), who toured regularly with Skillet, both recorded for this album (Rise) and possibly other albums. I believe Olsen still tours with them? I am not sure how they manage this song in concert without Chu. They may just use live cello alone or with violin track. The strings at the intro of recording seem altered, but otherwise in the rest of the song sound authentic. I suspect Korey wrote these string parts, but I don’t know for sure.
I love the pig noises you edit in on the rewind.
Thay actually have a cello & violin players that they use on the road.
What a song, Skillet is great 👍
Thank you for this reaction. Can't believe I haven't seen this before.
I have asked before, and I understand that there is only one way to request any kind of reaction...
But I just don't have that option. So please, you, or any patron reading this, please request a reaction to the song "Would it matter". It's a very important song for me and I would like David to rate it how he feels about it. Thank you very much.
There are no reactions to this song on RUclips. I really want to see yours.
I love the pigs😂
This was great however you have heard this before because a year ago you did a reaction to this song but it was live still great nonetheless
React to breaking free skillet
He has, check the channel 👍🏽
You should really react to hero
I think is the very first song of them with Jen singing and it's amazing
They are real strings they even play live with a violin and cello
Hey, is Room a Thousand Years Wide by Soundgarden on your list?
Nope, it's not in the que. It's actually already been filmed, edited, and uploaded. It should be coming out this month.
Will this Skillet song get a good score?
Does Jen sing with John?
🤔 .... there's his girl! 😂
@@kellystrickland7412 everyone should have someone that lights up when they enter the room the way that he lights up when Jen sings haha
@@Rocco1332 🤫 ... don't tell his wife 😂 ...
Can I ask how it looks with songs like "I want to live" or "Collide". Are they still in the que?
Skillet - I Want To Live is #184 in the que.
Skillet - Collide is not in the que.
@@THEDavidHeretic oh, I thought I have requested Colliade about year ago. It's a pity. Never mind. Waiting for another skillet reaction.
Keep rocking✌️
React to hero from skillet please🔥💣
To request a song you have to be a patreon member. If you do be sure to include a video link so he knows which to react to.
He's been asked before, however not sure if it's in the que. I believe he knows it, but I and others asked for a live version!
